Re: Which Help output for Silverlight application?
I haven't looked at any of the innards of MadCap's embedded Dot Net Help viewer, but if you're doing Silverlight development, you may be able to use that to create a simple help viewer specific to your app. For our Silverlight / Flex apps, we use WebHelp.

Re: Multiple writers working on one topic simultaneously
Just a quick clarification regarding what happens without source control: If two people open the same file, there is no warning at all. The warning comes only if both of them make a modification to the file, and then one person saves. The other will get a warning that someone else has changed the fi...

Re: Table page break in PDF output
If you set the page-break-inside property to "avoid" in your tr element, that should do the trick. Note that this means Flare will avoid creating page breaks inside *any* table row. If you need to be more specific, you'll have to create a style class for it.

Re: Importing text as a table
Completely non-intuitive. Unfortunately, I think they copied this behavior from Word or got the idea from there. I hate those things in Word, too, and I for one preferred the screen in Flare that came up when pasting. I don't get the reason for the change, especially since it doesn't really save yo...

Re: Thoughts on i.e. and e.g.
I try to avoid using either i.e. or e.g., because sadly there are a good few people who just don't know what they mean and get them wrong, using i.e. when they mean e.g. or the other way round. (See, avoided another Latin phrase!) We used them frequently in our technical writing for years, but for ...

Wasn't trying to point to either as the problem -- I have no idea which it is. I've had this problem, however, so I knew the solution. Experience is a good teacher.LTinker68 wrote:Oh, well, then maybe it is a Flare issue, or a Windows and Flare issue.

Open your skin and go to the Styles tab. Under ToolbarItem style node, select Logo. You'll see the place to specify the logo, and you can change that to "none" or specify your own logo.

If you look below the Submit button when creating a post, you see two tabs: Options and Upload attachment. Upload attachment should get you what you need to upload a screen cap.

Re: Clipboard operation exceptions persist in Flare 7.01
This used to happen to me all the time (maybe 25% of copies -- and it typically happened in a cluster). The copy still worked, it was simply annoying to click through an error message frequently. However, it's been almost non-existent in the past couple of Flare versions (possibly since v4, and defi...

We have multiple users in the Field (with laptops) who will pull the application and OLH up. The setting you're looking for is in the skin file. If you look in the Project Organizer, and open your skin file, you will see a "Caption" field on the General tab. Put the title you want to use there, and it will show in the window title.

Re: Binding a Flare project to Subversion
Regarding including / excluding GPL'd content: didn't mean to suggest you shouldn't want to exclude that; I didn't understand it so I asked. It seems much messier (to me; if you disagree, it hardly matters what I think, since it's not me managing the projects. :) ) to try to pick and choose the stuf...

Re: Binding a Flare project to Subversion
Okay, I typed out a huuuuge response to this, but I reread it and realized it wasn't all that helpful, and consisted of at least 50% of me bitching about the terminology choices they (failed to) make for SVN integration. :P So, starting over! If I use Flare's built-in feature to bind a local project...

Re: Hiding Style Intended for Web Output in Print Output
Hi Andrew, There's no reason that I'm not using display: none other than it didn't occur to me? Is that a property in the stylesheet? Excellent! That (hopefully) makes this easy. :) Yes, you can find it in the stylesheet if you open it in Flare, set it to Show: Property Groups (that's the drop-down...

Is there a reason you're not using display:none to hide the p.EndOfTopic in your print medium? Does it contain some text or something you do not want to lose?

Re: Lines appear to snap to grid
It does, to a limited extent, snap to a grid. There's no setting to turn that off. The way around it is to click one of the "nodes" of the capture box and use the arrow keys to move it pixel-by-pixel.

Re: Editor: Pressing ctrl-G takes 20-30% CPU and 2-4 seconds to
Question: I find to apply styles to a P section, that I am forced to right click on the P (or I or img, or whatever element) on the left hand xml navigator. I asked Flare support how to do this via kbd, and they said no can do. Is there a way? If you want to apply styles to the p or li (or whatever...

Re: How to NOT increment page numbers in PDF?
You could use a different page layout for the trainer pages that wouldn't include a page number, but i'm not sure if that would change the subsequent page numbers. I'm pretty sure that would have no effect on the page numbers. I don't know a way to do this (beyond making several separate PDFs and m...

Re: spell check: Is the word "cancelled" misspelled in Flare?
Seems like variables would be a more efficient "system for enforcing company / department styles and diction" than spell check. Not really, as they can't help people select the correct words, locutions, etc. See the thread starting at this post for a discussion of what I was referring to.

Obviously not being able to see either your application or help, it's impossible to judge, but that seems like a lot. Like Dave Lee, we primarily use bold type to convey actions, and that's it. Re: spell check: Is the word "cancelled" misspelled in Flare?
Just a quick comment on the original 'cancelled' point. For an authoring tool, I'd prefer a spell-checker to only allow one spelling for a word, as I would want the spelling to be consistent throughout my document; otherwise you could have different spellings of the same word in a document, which d...

Re: Editor: Pressing ctrl-G takes 20-30% CPU and 2-4 seconds to
In X5, RH treated index keywords at the topic level, and not more fine-grained. Correct. Works great, and no need to mess with conditions at the index-entry level (a huge time and complexity savings, though at the cost of some index entries you can't make due to conditionality). A tradeoff that you...

Re: Editor: Pressing ctrl-G takes 20-30% CPU and 2-4 seconds to
That said, in this case, there is a reason for how they implemented the index: the old RoboHelp method meant that if you condition parts of a topic that contain the keyword you've associated with the topic, the keyword *also* gets conditioned automatically. The old RoboHelp method meant you had to ...
