Re: Project:Report - Failed to open startup file: object ref ...
Now I'm getting this error with the File Tag report. I'm also getting it when I try to update my custom variables. I'm using Flare 8.1.2 on a Windows 7 PC. I've tried the suggestions in this thread (reset window layout, delete Analyzer folder) and they didn't work. One thing: A week ago, I had some ...

IE 10 compatibility view opens topics in ToC frame?
Has anyone else seen this behavior, and if so, have you found a way to fix it? The story: Our web software is compatible with IE10, but only if it IE10 is in compatibility view. However, if you view the software WebHelp in compatibility view, IE10 opens topics in the Table of Contents frame, not the...

Flare 8: Merge tool fails with "Object Reference" error?
When I get a topic back from Contributor and Flare finds conflicts between the Contributor version and the Flare version, it asks me if I want to compare changes in the Merge Tool. When i say Yes, the merge fails with the error "Object Reference not set to an instance of an object." I get ...

Re: Need help with error "The mail server could not be found."
Whenever I want somebody to review a new or modified WebHelp page, I laboriously Publish the project, copy the whole works to a network drive, and then e-mail a link to the individual page. A shortcut that would speed that a bit (takes about seven minutes if I'm in the office, or at least an hour i...

Thanks, Rob! Good to know it's not just me. (I do have that effect on software from time to time.)rhollinger wrote:This looks to be an issue with Outlook 2010 (64bit). Flare is unable to find it as the default email client.
Current work-around is to save the package to disk and email as an attachment.

Re: Need help with error "The mail server could not be found."
The first thread you listed is from me, so yup, I saw it. :D However, it didn't come up with a solution to my problem, so I thought posting the problem from a slightly different perspective might get some new answers. I hadn't seen the other thread, but a quick scan of it didn't show me anything tha...

Need help with error "The mail server could not be found."
Hi! Since upgrading to Flare Version 7, I can't email topics for review. My machine is a PC with Windows 7, my default email program is Outlook 2010. I have clicked Setup Mail in the Send Topics for Review Wizard (I clicked Lookup in Active Directory and it found the outgoing mail server and my emai...

Thanks for the warning about not changing anything.
The LAN Settings window says I'm using automatic configuration with "Automatically detect settings" checked.

Re: Flare 7 "Failed to connect to email client"
This is the first time I've tried to send topics for review with Flare 7. I was able to sent topics in Flare 5 w/o problems, but that was also on a Vista machine. There are all kinds of changes I'm dealing with. :-) And yes, when I save the package, I choose where to save it. I haven't tried saving ...

Re: Can't keep variables from wrapping
Can you explain your problem a little bit more? Because as I see it, there are going to be times when you HAVE to wrap any two word name, simply due to the limitations of the printed/Web page. For example, one product I work with also has a two word name: "Physician Scheduler." If I forced...

Re: Conflict: mc-heading-level vs. Use TOC depth
The headings you don't want in the TOC--are they shown in the body of the printed document? That is, are you just excluding them from the TOC or from the whole printed doc? If you're excluding them altogether, you can use a condition to exclude those headings from the print version while letting Fla...

Re: Error when pasting text
It's possible that your info is still in your topic, but the error is preventing you from seeing it. Have you tried opening your topic in Notepad or another HTML editor to see if the content is still there? Also, if the error is being caused by a broken tag or other weirdness, opening the file in an...

Re: Disable Back/Forward buttons until user goes to diff page?
Hi, Denise!
I have Flare 5.2, and I can't replicate this issue with my Web Help. The Back and Forward buttons are enabled on the first page (which I agree is odd), but clicking them doesn't do anything until/unless the user goes to a different page. After that, the two buttons work normally.

Re: Softball Question
Well, I have Captivate 1, which harks back to when the program was still made by Macromedia *cough* DARK AGES *cough.* As such, it's not as user-friendly as it could be. However, I had a background in programming Flash and other animation programs that helped a lot.

Re: Got reviewers who can't use X-Edit Review with Window 7?
Copying the answer into this thread in case someone else runs into this problem. Turns out the issue wasn't with Windows 7, but the fact that all my reviewers installed the latest version of X-Edit Review, which doesn't work with Flare 5. Companies with Flare 5 or earlier need to make sure their re...

Hello, X-Edit should work without a problem in Windows 7. Could you verify that the package you are trying to view was created in Flare 6.1? If the package was created using older versions of Flare, you will have to open it with X-Edit version 1 Cheers, And that is indeed what the trouble was...I h...

Got reviewers who can't use X-Edit Review with Window 7?
I asked this in the X-Edit forum twice but got no answers. Three of my reviewers have been "upgraded" to Windows 7. All three installed X-Edit Review 2. None of them can get it to open topics I send from Flare. One of them got a message that "the package is empty." Has anyone els...

Unable to run X-Edit in Windows 7--Help?
Our company doesn't have a maintenance contract, so I have to try and work this out myself. :( We have two people who were just upgraded to Windows 7. They both installed X-Edit, but neither can get it to work. One person can open topics from Flare, but the topics are blank; they can't see or edit a...
