Re: "Space before" at the top of a page

I have several styles, headings in particular, that have "space before" attributes, to keep things looking pretty. However, I notice that if that heading appears at the top of a page, the space before means that instead of it appearing actually at the top, the space is included, so it is shoved ...

Re: Bug with True Type Fonts in Flare 6?

Good to hear! Its possible that there are more rendering and graphics tweaks that have been enhanced in .NET Framework 3.5 and up. It looks like .NET Framework 4.0 will be coming out soon. But I think .NET Framework 4.0 is primarily a major release focused on getting a more stable, better performing ...

Re: Happy or unhappy with Lingo?

I have no idea of how many people use Lingo, but I guess one of the reasons the forum doesn't have many activity is because using Lingo is very simple and once you learn what you need there isn't much to ask (just guessing...) i'd agree with Lucia. For a user of MadCap Lingo 1.5, it does what it ...

Re: Screenshots enlarged in PDF Output

dave is right. How about specifying measurements in inches or cm for print output. This will make things easier. You can keep using pixels for online or display outputs. If you have only one image to specify, you can just specify it in the Picture Properties dialog box. If you have a whole ...

hmmm..Maybe the smart people at MadCap could use this post as an enhancment request? :o Log up a bug/enhancement request on it. Someone's already posted a similar one like this, and if more people log up requests for it, there's a good chance it'll get included in a future release. The support ...

Re: MadCap Flare and Windows 7

MadCap Flare 5.0 doesn't seem to work with Windows 7. Any ideas? I have been using Flare 4.2.1 on Windows 7 without issues. Its what we have. Have also 'trial'ed Flare 6.0 on the same. Flare v5 should work definitely. You don't need to install any versions of the .NET frameworks that Flare 5.0 ...

Re: Bug with True Type Fonts in Flare 6?

Just an update (almost related ) on this... It looks like the lack of support for full OpenType fonts was due to GDI and GDI+ rendering engines provided by Windows. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DirectWrite If the new DirectWrite and Direct 2D which are natively included on Windows 7 becomes more ...

Re: Graphics Accelerated Authoring

Hi! I think in the coming years, if MadCap dev uses Direct 2D, we'll be getting this, as will users of IE9 and Firefox 3.7 and up for HTML 5 rendering. However, users on Windows XP won't be getting this from Msft I think. Here's what I think http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/03/17/ie9_no_windows_xp/

If its Adobe OpenType it won't.

If its Microsoft OpenType, it will.

If its True Type it usually should.

Re: Graphics Accelerated Authoring

What is "graphics accelerated authoring" ? I have a faint idea that maybe the co-processing using the GPU is meant. Some apps use that to cut processing time by quite a bit, best example is the BOINC client. The concept is not new, some apps on the Commodore 64 used the processor in the 1541 floppy ...

Graphics Accelerated Authoring

Just an idea. Graphics acceleration would be nice to have for desktop applications. What do you think about graphics accelerated authoring environment for Capture, Flare and Mimic? That would help when rendering, scaling and transforming images for different single-sourcing formats. In fact, in a ...

Re: PDF Build Error: Object reference not set to an instance ...

Thanks Ltinker. This is my favorite error message, by the way. I think Adobe should print up some shirts with this error message on it and give it away at the Summit. Then maybe Madcap would do something about the message. (BTW, I know there are some other forum threads that discuss the vagueness ...

Re: Myriad Pro Cond font not working for print medium

So there is more to this OpenType font support issue. I guess its a limitation of legacy GDI+ implementations limiting wider OpenType font support. In any respect, Publisher 2010 seems to be offering more variety of OpenType support. We're all moving there somehow in the future. Who knows? At some ...

What I would like in Flare is a way to assign keyboard shortcuts to styles or classes. This would let you do what you're asking about here, but also would let you apply other styles quickly. Re: Image Size Limit in Flare? Screenshot best practices?

Some workarounds
- Add more RAM
- Upgrade to 64 bit operating system and add more than 8 GB of RAM
- Restart the computer
- Clear Windows Temp folder (there is also a hidden temp subfolder somewhere in the C:/Users/ location for the user account)
