Re: Object reference not set to an instance of an object
That message is a generic .net message that can mean any number of things. For example, I've had that message when building a target and there is an alias file that is completely blank, and I've also recently had that message when importing from FrameMaker and there are two hypertext destination ...

Re: Failed to run command 'Remiport...'
Looks like the problem was two "specify named destination" hyperlink markers within the same topic. Weird that Flare never complained about that before! I'll raise a bug report and hopefully they can sort it for next time.

Re: Failed to run command 'Remiport...'
mmm, I'm experiencing something similar when I hit reimport, although my error is "Object reference not set to an instance of an object". This same project worked fine in v6.0. Did you find a solution?

Re: Preserve/Don't Preserve FM styles, mapping & stylesheets
If you are creating online help, and will be reusing Flare templates across multiple projects, I would recommend "Don't Preserve FM styles", and define and link to your own stylesheet (and map those styles manually). The main reason: it gives you much more control and consistency each time you ...

Re: Any way to do this?
Try modifying your heading style to use an autonumber, and for the autnumber use the {file} command. 1. Open your stylesheet 2. Open H1 or whatever heading style you are using 3. Make sure you are in the Advanced view, with Show:Property Groups, then select AutoNumber 4. Click on mc-auto-number ...

Re: How are you translating / localizing your Flare projects?
So, I'm still keen to hear from anyone who is successfully translating production size and production quality Flare projects. Is anyone? Surely I'm not the only Flare user who's having this problem? Hey Riley We are using FrameMaker to translate our Flare Projects, and it is relatively successful ...

Re: Using Table Styles for Notes/Cautions/Warnings?
A single paragraph style is the easiest way to achieve this. It means you can apply your style by just selecting a format, and can also map FrameMaker styles if needed for an import. You mentioned autonumbered text, you'd only use this if you had the actual word "Note:" etc in there. It looks like ...

Re: Losing paragraphs next to images in Frame import
I've imported a lot of FrameMaker files into Flare (various version) over the years, and can honestly say I've never encountered missing text on the scale you are talking about. That looks like about 5 paragraphs MIA. Some things to clarify or try: 1) Make sure your paras in Frame are free from any ...

Issue #3 - none of the topics show up in the search, not even the topics from the Master. I've read other posts about re-registering a file, but I have no idea how to do that. Re: Dead link to external chm
Are you including the HHC name in your TOC link? With Flare created CHM files, it knows to look for _Temp.hhc. But with other help files, the TOC will most likely be called something different and Flare won't know how to find it. So your link needs to be:
../abc.chm#xyz.hhc

Re: Using Flare for E-learning
It may be worth submitting a feature request. Could you not just use a webhelp and embed it into the elearning program? That's what I was thinking, but I really have no idea how it would work. This was a question from our Training department, who are looking into Flare to compliment their current ...

Using Flare for E-learning
I've been asked specifically if Flare produces SCORM output. I think what was being asked for, in broader terms, was if Flare could produce deliverables for E-learning, or for integration in a course management system like Moodle. I'm not really savvy when it comes to E-Learning, so any insights are ...

Re: Numbers and bullet styles not showing on FM import
Flare has always supported mc-auto-numbers for imported bullets/numbers from FrameMaker. For more info, search on mc-auto-number in the help or on these forums. What Flare hasn't supported, and I think this inludes v5, is the ability to create proper HTML lists (i.e. <UL> and <OL> with <LI> items ...

Re: Including headings in mini-TOCs but not in the main TOC
My initial thought was that you could play around with the target>printed output setting "Use TOC Depth for Heading Levels". But, it appears this setting applies to both the TOC proxy and mini-TOCs, you cannot set them separately for both. Another option (untested) might be to set the relevant ...

I think listing at the top would be OK, maybe try a look like breadcrumbs (i.e. listing the applications across rather than down, and a smaller font with a border under)

Re: Does Flare use Framemaker's table of contents or index
Flare uses the FrameMaker TOC to create a TOC in Flare. Flare will look at the indents in the TOC to determine the TOC structure.
As for the index, Flare uses Index markers scattered throughout the text. You don't necessary need a generated index in your Frame book.

Re: An Item with the Same Key has already been added
For duplicate hypertext destinations, open your Frame doc and hit Escape v h (escape, then v, then h)
For duplicate Topic Alias markers, create an alphabetic list of markers in FrameMaker (Special>List of>), select TopicAlias, and scan down the list until you find two the same

Re: Output message when JS disabled?
I had a bit of a dig around. It looks like Flare webhelp loads a blank page (Skin\Blank.htm) and then uses scripting to load the default topic - if you have scripting disabled, you are left on that blank page. So it looks like your <noscript> text is best placed in the <body> tag of that file. You ...
