Re: Microsoft Help Viewer Script Error

I know that with VS 2010, MS introduced the MS Help Viewer, which is the new Microsoft Help v3 help viewer.

I, too, need to know how this works. I was hoping that Flare 8 would offer this new output, but it looks like they didn't include it.

Anybody?! :(

Re: Importing Help project from HelpStudio

I'd love to see MC impliment a xml comment extraction function in Flare. It's probably not a huge market, but every tech writer tasked with writing an SDK will be more compelled to go the MC route if they can seemlessly import xml comments. Innovasys has some great features and functionalities, but ...

Re: Heading Tags Re-assigned During Build of Print Target

Thanks Lisa. That's essentially what support told me...but I think my issue is related to the structure of my document...it sounds like Flare doesn't really support the structure of Parts > Chapters > Topics when you're using different page layouts for the Parts and Chapters portions. Because I can ...

Re: Heading Tags Re-assigned During Build of Print Target

So support pointed me to the "Use TOC depth for heading levels" as the culprit for the reapplying of h styles. Unchecking it did of course eliminate that issue. But the problem I was trying to solve was getting a miniTOC proxy placed at the Section level to list the chapter headings contai...

Heading Tags Re-assigned During Build of Print Target

For reasons that I cannot explain, text tagged with my h1.Chapter style renders in PDF as h3. So here's how to repeat it in my project: 1. Set up the following: h1.Book: style for book title; set as mcheading level 1 h1.Section: style for section/Part headings; set as mcheading level 2 h1.Chapter: s...

Re: Internal Error: Object Reference not set (Flare v5)

Has anyone found a resolution to this issue? If not, I'm even more nervous as I'm working on a large project, can't build any output, and I can't find a resolution. Here's the error i got...and I've included the messages in the screenshot, too...appears to fail after passing a tables style sheet. I ...

X-Edit Not Installed error

Anybody else getting this? ... 1. Install X-Edit Review. 2. Received an Outlook email message with an X-Edit Contribute topic attached for my review. 3. Double-click the attachment and select Open for Review/Edit in X-Edit Review . Xedit_review_notInstalledError__OpenWithdialog.png 4. Error stating ...

Re: Data loss

p.s. We located the file on his hard drive and found that, indeed, there was no extension, but the filename was the new name he had given it (not the original template name, or even "untitled"). And when we viewed the file in Notepad, it contained the original place holder text (the standa...

Data loss

I'm working on a team of multiple content authors. An X-Edit Contributor user contacted me today to indicate that he has lost hours of work. Here is the process he went through: 1. In X-Edit (v. 1.2), he clicked File > New and chose a template we created in Flare. 2. The template opened as expected....

Re: Installation Package Not Found error

Actually, this issue was experienced by four employees running Flare V5, each of us having uninstalled V4 before installing V5 (the released version, not the beta; I don't think any of us were running beta as we were using V4). Two other employees had the same experience running MadCap X-Edit. It co...

Installation Package Not Found error

Here's the sequence of events that led to the problem: 1. Launch Flare (or X-Edit, as this same has shown up there, as well). 2. A "fatal" error that prevents launch: madcap-crash2.png This error occurred for me after two or three weeks of initial use. 3. Uninstall and reinstall Flare (or ...

Re: Variables not showing up in PDF output

I had set mc-heading-level to 0 while troubleshooting. Putting it back to 1 fixed the issue with the H1 headings not showing up in the PDF TOC output, but the H1 headings still do not show up in body frame in PDF output. MissingH1headings.jpg I have checked the following: CSS: confirmed that H1 font...

Re: Variables not showing up in PDF output

Neither the topic in the final PDF output, nor the PDF TOC output shows my H1s. Maybe there's a best practice here that I'm not aware of. I am using H1 only in those topics intended to be the start of printed chapters. So: Chapter 1: [*]Topic1: H1 = chapter 1 title [*]Topic2: H2 = topic within chapt...

Re: Variables not showing up in PDF output

Thank you for the responses... So I was using a class (p class=Heading 1), but that's because I map styles to Word docs. Perhaps I shouldn't use Linking? I re-assigned the root style (H1) to my p.Heading1 styles, per your suggestion...the code looks like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding=...

Variables not showing up in PDF output

Putting chapter titles in the header is a documented feature. There are two ways to do it: Running Headers, or variables. Flare doc recommends variables. I have placed [Level1] variables into my L and R page layouts. I also include the pagenum variable. The page variables are included in the PDF out...
