One way would be to create three Master Pages with one body proxy each and attach them to the specific topics. While I am somewhat confident that this works, the solution is not what you want unless each topic is not longer than one printed page and it is OK to have each topic start on a new page. M...

Let your voice be heard here: http://www.madcapsoftware.com/bugs/submit.aspx

Until then you can try and see if conditional tags will get the CVS folders out of your build. Apply a tag and set in the targets to always exclude those files.

One workaround would be to produce more styles, but is that really needed?

Anything that generates a negative impact in user experience is a bug! That is not just me writing it, that is consensus across the literature. The styles are clearly defined and shouldn't take on a life of their own. The question here is if this is Word's doing or not. Word is known for wildly appl...

Basically, I'm running the same hardware as our developers use. Well, you are a developer! Just because you do not crank out object-oriented code and stored procedures doesn't mean that your work can be done with less resources. I work with a 3.4 GHz P4 and 3GB RAM, which I think provides a fair am...

Also some more basic questions...when did you degunk the drive last and did a defrag on it? There is tons of garbage that applications and Windows itself leave behind that gum up the works. Unfortunately, Flare cannot be excluded from the list. Try deleting temporary files and defrag the drive. I am...

Re: RE: Publishing and Destination problems

Webhelp is only for webservers as far as I know. No, it can also be used as stand alone, local help system. For that purpose, make sure that the "Mark of the web (MOTW)" option is set, otherwise Windope throws a fit and thinks you are about to dismantle the bit of security that this OS of...

I'd just use one of the many free FTP clients (I use FTP Commander) and push the files up that way. Better than being late on a project...

I know, that still doesn't fix your original problem, but avoidance is a valid approach.

Re: mimic

On your #5, I'd actually disagree - our demos are aimed at less sophisticated users, and the more we can draw their attention to a particular spot, action, etc. the better. (Besides, our brand is currently orange, so it saves me a step that it's already in that color!) I think it should be s...

Not that MadCap doesn't know about it already, but here are our top 7 issues with Mimic in my usual verbage: 1.) Typing is not captured anywhere. I tried Word, Flare, and even plain ol' Notepad and in neither case does Mimic capture typing. Of course, when the screen changes or when I hit Print Scre...

I use Mimic more and more. We are a Captivate shop and Mimic has some nice advantages, but also some shortcomings. We'll have to wait until those issues are resolved before we can switch everyone over. Mimic is close to win the 10k race, but there is still 2k left to go.

What is even more interesting is that this debate goes back years and predates Flare's appearance. I recall the long discussions and fruitless attempts to get the RoboHelp Logo removed from the FlashHelp / WebHelp skins. Rick Stone published then a much appreciated hack to take this thing out. I jus...

I deleted the remains of the 2.0 viewer after uninstall and view the Flare help with the 2.5 view by calling it directly. The logo is still there. I also do not see any obvious way in the target editor on how to switch this off during build. Maybe there was a change that comes into play when calling...

There isn't a public announcement I can point to, but there are several clear indicators. Here are a few: Microsoft's own developers did not base any new applications for Vista on the .NET framework. If .NET is here to stay in the long term that decision wouldn't have made any sense as the selected ...

This is really nice! Do you make the graphics yourself?

Just one question, is it intended that the screenshots are not centered and the text is not justified on both sides? Maybe that doesn't matter when viewed in a smaller window.

(2) In a cross-functional team, each member needs team (or at least a team lead) buy-in. Yes, but a team consists of professionals and experts. Why hire a seasoned tech writer when the developers sideline him or her to be some data entry clerk tellging him or her what to do, how to do it, and rejec...

I distributed WebHelp with great success and anything that was in the \"Help\" folder was my responsibility. So pointing fingers is still easy. And once the developers choose to use .NET they will be faced with a boatload of files that partially are not of their making. OK, many little fil...

I wonder if anyone wants to embed the help into the project as this makes updating help more difficult (requires release of the entire application). Developers being scared by many files? LOL! I also recommend to add a \"replace\" function so that one can show a custom logo. I personally opt for increasing startup time and make the \"we need to show something otherwise everyone thinks the app crashed\" issue a moot point.

Our build engineer did this with great success, except that with RHX5 command...
