Can't open a project
I have just installed analyzer on a test machine so that I can try it out. I installed Flare as well and it runs OK. Our systems people had already installed SQL Express, .NET and so on.
I can start Analyzer and open the help file!
When I try and open a project, the dialog box opens, I select a project (on the C: drive), the dialog disappears, but nothing is opened up. I sit staring at the Start Page. When I look in Windows Explorer I can see that a new folder called Analyzer has been created alongside the Content folder, but that's about it.
Any suggestions on what to do next, or can I just assume that my projects have no faults!
EDIT: The machine has XP service pack 2, .NET 2 and 3, SQL Express, MS Office 2007, and now Flare 3.1, and Analyzer 1.0.1 dated 18-Jan (I assume after the patch).

Nope, Analyzer tells you explicitly. I think. It finds heaps of errors in mine.wclass wrote:... or can I just assume that my projects have no faults!
Ypu could try the time honoured reboot - and I know today's round of updates from MS includes patches for the dotNet framework.
I would try right-clicking the project in Windows Explorer and selct Analyzer from the OPen With... context menu. Make sure you don't select the always use this program option.

In Analyzer do any of the reports run? or can you view them?

Maybe SQL Express isn't running.
Right Click Computer on the start menu (if you double click it will open windows explorer) and select manage. Expand Services and Applications and select Services. Make sure the Extended tab is selected on the right pane - and because MS is a right pain they've put the tabs at bottom. Scroll down the list and find SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS). Its status should be started and startup type automatic. If not, you can set the values before closing.

Re: Can't open a project
OK - I have tried all these suggestions and still no luck. SQL Express was definitely running as mentioned in the previous post. I have tried to open several projects - all can be open and updated with Flare on this machine in this configuration, and yes, we did try the old reboot, and we tried it with Flare running, and without, and we tried opening a clean copy of the project (without the Analyzer folder). And now I am running out of combinations. Thanks for the ideas so far.

Re: Can't open a project
I have been having the same problem since I licensed Analyzer 3 weeks ago. One funny thing though: Analyzer worked well when I ran it in the Trial Mode. My problems began the moment I entered my license key. Since then, I have worked with the MadCap support folks who have had me uninstall and reinstall Analyzer and SQLEXPRESS several times, but no luck.
I eagerly await a solution.

Re: Can't open a project
Same here: I installed Analyzer 2 months ago, and it has never worked for me, not in trial mode and neither after having entered a license key. When I try to open a project it just sits there and does nothing.
I've been mailing back-and-forth with tech support the whole time, but none of their suggestions solved my problem (whatever it may be).
Seems like someone released a product a bit too soon...

Re: Can't open a project
Yes I did - that was one of the questions/suggestions from MC tech support (Neal Pozner), next to:Richard Ferrell wrote:hae you verified that SQL service is running
- is SQL Server installed locally? Yes, it is, as well as Flare and Analyser, it's all right here on my laptop
- do I have SQL Server Express 2005? Yes (SP2 in the mean time)
- could I install a dll that generates some additional logging? I did (4 versions already) - it didn't help
- Could I check a setting in my registry? Is there anything entered at:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\MadCap Software\Shared\Sql - I did, no luck there
- Am I working via Remote Access? no
And now it's been 3 weeks since I heard from them, so I guess they're running out of ideas too...

I have been in contact with Siska, but if anyone else is experiencing this issue, please contact technical support. We think we have a solution that will work.

Re: Can't open a project
Anayzer 1.0.1 won't open my flare projects. It use to work. I haven't tried to use it since I upgraded to Flare 4.0, but want use it now.
In the bottom line it displays: "Analyzer Database version mismatch: refressing the database..."
It just sits there. It cleared the message once, but nothing happened.
Where can I get upgraded software if needed? How can I get Analyzer to work? Some people in another writing group wanted to see how it works.
Thanks.

Re: Can't open a project
I think you have to update Analyzer to 2.0 when you upgrade Flare to 4x

Re: Can't open a project
I too have just installed Analyzer and tried to run it for the first time.
I use Perforce source control. When I tried opening a project that wasn't checked out, it wouldn't open.
When I checked the project out, it opened fine - just took a minute or so (more than 1000 topics).
So am I right in thinking that the project files have to be read-write on your PC before Analyzer can do its stuff?
