(never spell check) Dictionary.mcdic - add to source control
My Flare project is bound to TFS for source control. I just completed a spell check. In that process, I added some items to the project dictionary, added some items to the global dictionary (without realizing it at first), ignored some items, and corrected some items. When I finished, saved, and loo...

Re: Error with checking files in
I am having this error in Flare 2016-r2. I found that the "Enforce TFS comment policy" checkbox was already unchecked. After doing an Add operation from the Pending Changes window, I looked at he fileset in source control via Source Control Explorer, and the file had NOT been added, so in ...

Re: Target will not check in
I am getting this error no matter how I try to check in the newly created file. I have Flare 2016 r2 connected to MS Team Foundation Server. I am not experiencing this with any other files in my project. The file is a newly created snippet file. The error occurs whether the files referencing the sni...

Re: Changing folder hierarchy throws invalid path error
I am not linked to source control that I know of; I copied this project from a central location; the prior owner may have had source control linked in; I'll check. How might being linked to source control cause a problem? As to how I create new topics; I always right clicked on whatever folder I wan...

Changing folder hierarchy throws invalid path error
I decided I had an unnecessary layer of hierarchy in my topic folder structure. Let's say the unnecessary folder name was "SuperfluousFolder." WHAT I DID 1. I moved all the subfolders out of "SuperfluousFolder" to a level parallel with it, and selected to Update Links in every ca...

Re: How do I create a cross-reference to a numbered step?
This seems like a feature almost everybody would want at some time or other. The first query was in 2008. So Madcap has had 6 years to think about this. Is it slated to be implemented at some point? Having to create a special paragraph type to pull this off seems unreasonably klugy. Madcap, comments?

Opening a webpage from link in PDF target
Background: > I have a project containing topics that are used to generate two different PDF targets (an admin guide and an install guide) which share many topics. Two diff outline TOC's determine the content of each. > The online (HTML-5) output is a union of all these topics in an online knowledg...

Re: Conditionalizing TOC entries vs Topics for exclusion
Thanks for much for the quick succinct and helpful response. I think Madcap should steal what you wrote and stick it in their documentation. (If it's already there, I couldn't find it.) A further question: In regard to online output, you said that if you exclude the topic file itself, the TOC item f...

Conditionalizing TOC entries vs Topics for exclusion
What are the differences in build results between conditionalizing a topic file for exclusion (e.g. with a condition tag named "Delete") versus conditionalizing the outline TOC entry that references that topic? Are there reasons for conditionalizing the topic file in some cases and the TOC...

Updating Contribuor Template in a Contributor document
If our template person modifies our Contributor (.mccot( template and sends it to me, and I replace the preveious version of the template with the newer one, when I open an existing Contributor (.mcco) document, it does not appear to have recognized the changes in the new version of the Template. I ...

Must pics be on server for reviewers to see them in topics?
Hi. I am evaluating Contributor v3. Looks promising, but one question I cannot find addressed in their documentation is this: if topics contain referenced resources, such as images, snippets, and style-sheets for that matter, must those resources be referenced from a shared server (rather than my lo...

Re: Cross-references broken in Word output
I just skipped to the end; it is a Looooong document. By "visit" every page, you just mean scroll through it and wait for the picture to load on each page, right? Or do you mean actually touch each page with the cursor?

Re: Cross-references broken in Word output
I did it in its default output folder. The images that disappeared were mostly screen captures. Little icon images may have disappeared, but I did not check for that.

Did that, per the instructions in the article, and clicked on the last page (which was blank) for good measure. No go. But thanks for offering that suggestion.

Re: Cross-references broken in Word output
Lisa: Thanks for rhe reference. I tried this technique. Out of some hundred illustrations, it worked on a few, but made the rest disappear, leaving a rectangular object with no image. If you have any idea why this happened, and more importantly, if there is a remedy, I'd be very happy.

Re: Cross-references broken in Word output
Thanks for that, Juliane. I also noticed that my autonumbering broke in the WORD output, and when I emailed the WORD doc to a coworker, on their machine, the referenced images also disappeared, because they were residing on my local PC. Do you know if there's a way to configure WORD targets to just ...

Riley and Nick.
Thanks so much I'll look into graphic-display setting.
I don't know much about creating the type of macros Nick is talking about, but I'll give that some thought, too.

Re: Word 2007 -- Summarizing target output problems?
I have inherited a project that exports to WORD. When I build that target, a graphic, which was inserted by reference in the topic, is replaced in the WORD output with a box with that little X graphics icon in the corner. If I select the graphics box, right click and edit the hyperlink to point to t...

Re: Indent a table in a topic
I tried setting the Box margin-left value to indent my (topic stylesheet based) tables (they were left justified, as advised), but there was no effect. However, when I set the Box padding-left value, that DID work.

Re: Linking to a PDF
I just learned that hyperlinks to a PDF cannot work in the PDF target because there is no folder structure in the output containing resources (such as the referenced PDF) to be accessed. Further, even if the link worked, others who view the PDF target on their computers will not have the referenced ...

Re: Linking to a PDF
When you hover over the link in your PDF file, does it actually point to the correct location of the PDF file? And what actually happens when you click it? I think Flare might handle a link to a local drive differently to a file on a website; it might create a relative path to the file. Thanks Dave...
