You could try this: close the HTML Help help viewer; start Internet Explorer; do View -> Text Size -> Medium; close IE. Then start up the help viewer again and see if that has reset the font size (it did for me when I tried it just now).
Also, on the help viewer's toolbar you can enable the Font ...

Re: CHM Output: Red Asterisk on Topics & Book Icons
I searched all the Flare forums on here and came up with 4 responses that didn't match and Google was coming up with solar flares, stars, chemicals, etc despite searching for "red asterisk" + flare +chm so I'm posting this here.

Re: auto-number handling in body vs. page header
Hi Lisa, thanks for your reply; that's what I suspected.
I tried creating a new h1 class (h1.ChapterHeading) to auto-generate the chapter numbers, and inserting a blank line with that style before the actual h1 chapter heading in each chapter. So I had:
[h1.ChapterHeading - blank line]

auto-number handling in body vs. page header
I've seen this asked a few times but couldn't find a definitive answer... I'm using auto-numbered text to add a "Chapter N" line to my h1 style; I got that working using the mc-auto-number-class and mc-auto-number-format attributes, and set up a span style to get it looking the way I want. So each ...

Hi Ramon,
It's not so much for things that I've found that aren't working right; it's so I can benefit from things other people have found that aren't working right, and vice-versa.
I was mainly thinking of a known-issues list for things that MadCap isn't going to fix (or at least can't get to ...

List of known issues?
I searched around but didn't see this answered anywhere... is there a list of known issues with Flare--i.e. bugs, limitations that users are likely to run into, maybe even bugs that should be fixed already but that we're not 100% certain *are* actually fixed?

Re: Shortening Filenames and Foldernames?
Sorry to bump an old post, but I feel this is an important issue that needs to be brought up again... I saw some other posts about how HTML Help projects don't work optimally with spaces in the source file names, so I went through my project and renamed all the files/folders (in Flare) so as not to ...

Re: Flare crashes while editing
I've had this happen from time to time, and in my case it usually seems to be a lack of Windows GDI/User resources. In Task Manager I can see that some processes are using several thousand GDI/User handles, so if I shut those down then the crashing in Flare seems to go away.

Re: TOC requirement for PDF
Hi, sorry for the late reply & thanks for your responses. Lisa, your idea of having a single TOC might make more sense, since at this point I think that most if not all of the new content I'll be creating, will need to go into both the online and PDF outputs. Then I'll just condition out the few ...

Re: More pdf options
PDF documents support a setting to control the default "open" mode (single page, continuous, continuous-facing, etc.) But apparently Flare doesn't let you set it (it would be a good feature to add though).

Re: Workaround for 100% hh.exe CPU usage?
Well, I take all that back... the problem has started happening again as I've been adding more content to my project, and I haven't been able to get it to go away again by adding PNGs or scripts, etc. So I guess the fix only worked temporarily, or just shifted the problem around... bummer.

I usually query the forums using Google; it seems to work pretty well; e.g. feed it:

This brings up 3,800 hits, so you'll probably want to narrow it from there... but Google's getting better at figuring out what you really mean based on what you ask ...

Will do, thanks! One thing I noticed while poking around with Process Explorer while holding down an arrow key in Flare, is that even with GDI+ rendering shut off, I still see gdiplus.dll in the main thread stack trace sometimes. I'm not sure if that's significant or not, just thought I'd mention it ...

Workaround for 100% hh.exe CPU usage?
Hi,
I may have found a workaround for the problem plaguing some users including me, where after closing a CHM file generated by a Flare HTML Help project, the hh.exe process hangs, consuming 100% of one CPU.

Ah, thanks for the tip, Lisa -- I didn't think to look there. The Check for Updates command comes up with an empty dialog, no link or anything ...

Here's a thought: you could run Microsoft's Process Explorer ( http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653 ) on Flare; double click on the Flare process and go to the Threads tab; sort by the CPU column and use the Stack button to see what the busiest thread(s) are up to.

Thanks, that's good to know. In this case the Flare project is on a local hard drive on a "real" machine (not a VM). It is on an encrypted partition, though, but we've been using that setup for years and not had any performance problems there. I'll copy it to a "real" drive partition when ...
