Re: PDF Bookmark Problem
Serena, You will want to set the stylesheet mc-heading-level property on your subheading styles. For example, if your subheadings are using a paragraph style like p.subheading2 or p.h2, you can set the mc-heading-level property in the p.h2 stylesheet to a 2. This will treat the subheading exactly li...

Keyword Link Control in Print Output?
Is there a way to get something like a Keyword Link Control to appear in Print output? We have a one to many relationship with our enhancements, where one enhancement/feature can affect multiple products. For example, we are adding a new column in a database that will affect 5 different interfaces. ...

Re: Keep Master TOC displayed?
Just to ensure we are working with a clean slate, try resetting your Flare Layout by going to Window > Layouts > Reset Window Layout. Open your TOC and make it floating. Drag the floating TOC to the left and drop the toc on the target symbol. It should now be docked in the left hand navigation. Righ...

Re: Tables in footer (suggestions)
My footer table style has an explicit column width set for each column. Content in each column is forced to stay within the column width, keeping the content consistent across all the guides (100+ Guides, 500+ Release Notifications). I like to have my headers and footers extend slightly past the bod...

Re: Object reference not set to an instance of an object
Just throwing in my $0.02. I had a project that threw up the Object Reference error for a PDF build but not an HTML build. The culprit was a body tag in one of my topics had a condition applied. The error would appear when Flare got to the pagination step of the build. Apparently, Flare cannot pagin...

Adding and removing table rows causes the cursor to jump quite a bit.schultza wrote:In what other instances have you seen this happen? I'd like to inform my team of what they can expect.

Re: Binding a Flare project to Subversion
Yes, part of my recommended workflow will be always to first update the local copy of the global project from Subversion. Next, in the local project (after also updating it from Subversion if needed), manually re-import the global items. At that point, the local project is ready to be worked on. Do...

Re: Binding a Flare project to Subversion
One question: You write "If my master files were not checked in to SVN, I would have to create a local copy, and then re-import all my master files again." Won't I always need to have a local copy of the global project anyway? I have my local projects set up to auto-reimport at (target) g...

Re: Binding a Flare project to Subversion
Nita, I've been using Flare for the last two years inside of subversion with global project linking my child projects to my master project. I've only started to use Flare's subversion integration and have used Tortoise SVN since the beginning. This is just my advice, take it or leave it, but you are...

Totally off topic.... It startled me to see this thread at the top of the Webhelp Forums. The original poster, Rick Henkel, passed away from a complication during heart surgery almost two years ago. Rick taught me everything I know about FrameMaker, and I still use his FrameScripts to prepare our Fr...

Re: Difficulties when importing a Frame book
Windows 7 and Frame 7.2 is a big bag of hurt. Frame wants to access all sorts of locations that Windows 7 is now protecting. Ensure you are running Frame as an administrator, and also ensure your user account has full control of the entire C:\ drive. Otherwise Frame 7.2 can't do its thing.

Re: Missing information When Importing Frame to Flare
After converting 60+ guides from FrameMaker to Flare, we found 4 guides had entire chapters missing from the import. The chapters were always at the end of the guides, ususally in the appendix chapters. We were never able to determine why this happened, and converted the missing chapters later.

Re: Landscape view in topic editor?
Is your project imported from FrameMaker? If so, your imported TOC items are linked to bookmarks within your topics, instead of the html file. When this happens, Flare cannot apply a landscape page to the xml editor but will generate a landscape page in your output. Right click on your TOC item and ...

Re: Topics showing up in help when excluded via condition tags
If a topic has two conditions, and one condition is set to include and the other is exclude, flare will always include that topic. Do topics you want excluded contain a conflicting condition?
Thats all i can think of without seeing your target and toc/topic conditions.

Re: Flare 7 and 64-bit
I use Flare 7 on a core i7 64bit windows machine with 8GB of ram. It is definitely using multiple cores and more than 3gig of Ram during builds. The xml editor is no more faster or less buggy on 64bit windows, so day-to-day writing is about the same. Here are some rough build times using my two mach...

Re: Flare 7 editor CPU usage
My entire documentation team experiences this issue with Flare as well, but we also notice a strange behavior based on project size: For projects 20MB or smaller, Flare will wind down to 0% CPU usage when idle. For projects 40MB in size and larger, Flare never goes less than 50% CPU usage, even when...

Paste xml text into a pre style and preserve indents?
I hope the group here can help me with two questions: 1. I want to copy xml code from a text editor and paste it into Flare while preserving the indents. Flare is taking my text and left justifying it all. For example: This is what I copy from a text editor: <?xml version ="1.0"?> <msg> <h...

More RAM, More CPU. An SSD alone on that system won't be enough. I'm running a Sandy Bridge 2500K-based system with 8 GB and an SSD and I have to say, it just flies. Any SSD at 128GB on up should do the job - Corsair, Crucial, Intel and OCZ are all good. Thanks for info. My laptop isn't due to be r...

Re: [*EDIT*] MadCap newb, got One main issue now: imported lists
I came over from FrameMaker 7, I don't know much about Frame10. In Frame 7 we had two number styles: Number 1 & Number 2+ . Number 1 started the list, and Number 2+ continued the list between paragraphs. It would flow something like this: (Number 1 ) 1. (Number 2+) 2. (Number 2+) 3. (Number 2+) ...
