Re: Set Java path in Flare?
Hi Mark, Sorry, just saw your question today. No, there was no resolution. I contacted Flare support, and they said Flare is supposed to work with Amazon Corretto. They opened a bug report for this issue, but who knows when they'll get around to addressing it. In the meantime I tried another option ...

Re: Set Java path in Flare?
Hi Rob, All of my system variables seem to be set correctly. Do you know if Flare uses the system variables? Or does it rely on something else to find Java? (By the way, it took me a while to respond because every time I post to the Flare forums I somehow end up on a spam list and it won't let me po...

Set Java path in Flare?
Hi All, The company I work for recently uninstalled Oracle Java from our machines, and now Flare is not able to build SVG images. In Flare 2020, it looks like it now supports OpenJDK. However, my company is using the Amazon Corretto version of OpenJDK, and Flare doesn't seem to be finding it. Plus, ...

Can you repeat table cells across pages?
Hi All, I have a long table that spans multiple pages of PDF output. One of the columns has the same data for every row, and this data takes up multiple lines so it makes each individual row taller than it really needs to be. So to save space I decided to only add this data once and merge all of the...

Re: Flare adding gitignore to .gitignore file
No one? Maybe no one reading the forum uses GitHub. But the fact that Flare forces the .gitignore file to be in the .gitignore file is a huge problem. Browse any random repository on GitHub, and the odds are good the .gitignore file will be present in the repository. For Flare users, this is an issu...

Flare adding gitignore to .gitignore file
Hi Everyone, Has anyone noticed this behavior in Flare when biding to GitHub? It defaults to adding the .gitignore file to the .gitignore file every time you do a push. Even if you open the .gitignore file and remove that line, Flare adds it back at the next push. Does anyone know how to make Flare ...

Re: Top Nav Move Side Menu to Left
Thanks for the reply. I may be trying to make this harder than it really is. Reading your reply and then looking at the master page code, my question may have been a dumb question. Thanks for the response though.

Top Nav Move Side Menu to Left
Hi Everyone, I've seen some Top Navigation that have the side menu moved from the default right side of the page to the left. I've experimented with implementing this, but have had limited success. The obvious change (I think) is to change the class to float left instead of right. This works, but th...

Re: Default.js conflict with GUI
The help is called via JavaScript as outlined in the Flare help. I don't know how or why Default.js is a problem. All I know is that the line where the jQuery is inserted causes the problem. That's the line the debuggers traced the issue to, and if that line is commented out, the problem goes away. ...

Default.js conflict with GUI
Has anyone ever had an issue with Flare's help output conflicting with the application? The web app I write help for has a tabbed layout. The behavior we are seeing is that once someone clicks the help link, the GUI tabs stop working, and the user must refresh the browser page before the tabs will w...

Re: Top Nav layout mods
Thanks Dave, I gave this a try, and it worked very well. I had never experimented with hiding skin elements before. Moving elements with jQuery is also a trick I need to practice with. What's nice about this solution is that it doesn't break the responsive design. What I need to figure out now is ho...

Re: Top Nav layout mods
Thanks Dave, Nice looking help system. Would you mind describing what your script does to move the logo and search box? Or even share the script itself? I guess what I'm asking is whether you're just hiding elements and then inserting copies of those elements elsewhere or if you're actually moving t...

Re: Page Layout Flows
Thanks Nita, The frame break styles were what I was looking for. I figured there had to be some kind of setting like that, but wasn't finding it. This makes setting up layouts a lot easier, and allows me to completely separate out the data/text from the formatting (and get better results in the proc...

Top Nav layout mods
Does anyone know of a MadCap or other resource that explains how to modify the Top Navigation help output header area? I can kind of decipher some changes by looking at the Flare sample projects, but it's not obvious how to make changes without breaking something. I've seen a number of different lay...

Page Layout Flows
Can anyone explain, or point me to a resource, that explains page layout flows and how they work? What I'm trying to figure out is how I can control what text goes into one frame versus another. I read a good blog post (http://www.madcapsoftware.com/blog/2012/09/12/guest-post-creating-a-title-page-f...

Re: How do I count all the links in my project?
Why not just use MadCap Analyzer? I'm surprised no one else mentioned that. One of its report types is called "External Links". It counts up every link in your Flare project that goes to the World Wide Web. This excludes cross references and hyperlinks to topics within your project. It doe...

Re: Any value in indexes for WebHelp or HTML5 outputs?
In my opinion Search has replaced the need for an index, and arguably could replace the TOC as well. If your help is context sensitive to the application, then most likely the user gets to where they need to be with a single click. If they open it up outside of the app, how many dig through a comple...

Re: Breadcrumb not using h1
Thanks for the reply. However, I do suspect there is a bug here. I've confirmed through experimentation that Flare does use the TOC Label in the breadcrumb. But the problem is that it always shows the first drop-down's label in the breadcrumb, regardless of which one I've clicked on in the TOC. So g...

Breadcrumb not using h1
Hi All, I'm using Flare 11, generating TriPane HTML5 output, and using breadcrumbs. The issue I'm having is that in topics that have drop-downs, the breadcrumb is using the drop-down instead of the topic's h1. Let me explain further... My topics are structured in the following way. We have the h1 fo...

Page Layout for Last Page in Document
Hi All, What I would like to do is create a page layout that includes a custom footer for the last page of a document. This footer would include the company logo and some other information. I know I can create a page layout with this custom footer in it, then set the last topic in the document to us...

Re: Tasks in Topics vs Snippets for Help and PDF
Hi Nita, My beating a dead horse comment wasn't directed at you or the other repliers. It was directed at Flare, because obviously Flare cannot do what I want. I had hoped there was something I was missing in the product and there was a simple solution that I simply didn't know the product could do....
