Does anyone actually use Pulse or Feedback Server?
Our company uses Flare for all our user documentation (I introduced it 10 years ago :)) Someone else looks after it now, but I'd like it to be possible for staff to comment on pages, point out what's missing etc. I think Pulse should be the tool to do this, but from what I can tell... does it work? ...

Re: Slideshows and PDF
Updating on my own post - it looks like this has been disabled by Madcap - I received this in an email: 'Slideshows are not supported in print-based output. The slideshow would need to be conditioned out of the print and the content inside of each slide would need to be placed below the slideshow. T...

Re: Slideshows and PDF
Hi, Found this post, thought 'aha! That's exactly what I need to know!' - except - I can't seem to change the exclude action - I right click, go to properties, toggle from Remove to Unbind, click OK and... nothing happens, it stays as remove. Any idea what the xml syntax at least should be so I can ...

Create a new group type (like div, blockquote etc)
Hi All, Any idea how to create a new group type - (like div, blockquote, fieldset, form) - note, not a new class of an existing group, but a new group alltogether. Reason being - I need to do some bulk search'n'replace to convert the htm to an xml that a different system understands - and while I co...

Importing from Adobe Pagemaker
Hi all, We have a bunch of content that was written on Pagemaker, which we want to suck into Flare. Apologies if there's a post out there already on this - couldn't find it. Is there an agreed method for converting? Would I need to get it to 'InDesign' first? Or do I just have to generate the PDFs, ...

Re: ERROR - Failed to run command 'Record'
Had the same problem - on Mimic 6.
Seems crazy that you can't use microphone when recording - has anyone found a fix for this yet?
On Windows 7.
thanks.

Where to get old copy of Mimic?
Hi All,
I have a licence for mimic 5 - but have lost the original .exe to install it.
Anyone know if it is available anywhere to download, coudn't find it on the Madcap website...
thanks

Re: Automation / Bulk Conversion challenge
Many thanks all, it works! I've been able to convert the records to snippets, create a file which has thousands of topics which reference the snippets. The final challenge is to split this file into the thousand different records - but that is a separate tech challenge. The larger challenge is then ...

Re: Editing in Eclipse
Thanks for your, erm...advice. I share the frustration, but also try to balance it with the reality. While coding the functionality behind a field, if they had one window for the code, the other for the documentation, both submitted together - much more likely to get something out of them. Which the...

Re: Editing in Eclipse
Understand the irritation, but unfortunately, Flare doesn't have a code compiler. And sadly, over the years, they have proved that while you can ship code without documentation, and get (poor) results, if you ship documentation without the code it gets even worse. Over a barrel a bit on that one.

Editing in Eclipse
Hi All, Suspecting this could be a question for Madcap themselves, as it may be licensing related. There are lots of categories such as Web Based, Printed, Dotnet and CHM but not Eclipse so am writing it here... Its hard enough to get our programmers to document anything, let alone ask them to do do...

Re: Automation / Bulk Conversion challenge
Thanks for responses, sorry for delay to responses. I can get a list of the topics, in the correct order easily enough (as I say, there are around 40,000 of them across maybe 4,000 files - but I can extract that easily). I'd be curious as to how you'd do it - I'm all for using Excel and text editors...

Automation / Bulk Conversion challenge
Hi all, Have a fairly hefty challenge, and am not expecting an easy solution - but wondering about which approach people would suggest. We have over 50,000 pages of field-level guidance (i.e each field has its own paragraph or more of information). A single record may have 100 fields on it (or more,...

Re: Importing Flare into Flare!
Unfortunately, flare-to-flare will import the whole project, unless you do something about it - you can't pick the folders that you want through the flare import project tool. Also - you can't import folders worth of HTML files through Project --> Import HTML files (there's an enhancement request ou...

Re: Bulleted lists are given numbers in Word 2010
Hi Tom, In the stylesheet for the style that you have imported, what is set in the mc-auto-number-format ? That is what controls the auto numbering. You can manually enter a format (so, copy a bullet point from the available symbols in word and paste it into the 'Enter Format' box). Its a dirty work...

Re: What's the single biggest Flare project you've had to manage
Related useful tip... As managing 17 projects, and merging them together through runtime merging was becoming an administrative headache (as we had to produce in Webhelp, HTML5, Client, Internal, Minimal and Full-Fat - which meant 8 permutations and therefore 8 targets for each project) we created a...

Re: Command Line Build batch file
Thanks Kellie.
that tells me of any errors encountered during the build (which is nice) but it doesn't tell me, for example, of any unused content or unused styles etc - problems with the content, that the build itself doesn't register as an error.
Have submitted a feature request....

Quick thought - I now remember I had this once.
Pressing 'F5' made it appear. Maybe that's it.

Re: Where are imported Word topics?
That's weird. They should be there.
When you go to the toc, and hold down ctrl+ double click on one of the pages, it should bring up the topic that the toc links to.
Then click on the 'locate file in Content Explorer' button - it should take you to wherever that topic is in the content explorer.

Re: Auto reimport questions
Hi Eileen, 1. When I import an individual topic from Project A to Project B, I can see in Project B that the file was imported because it shows up in the Content Explorer under the name of the source project. But I don't see a way in the source Project A to identify which topics were exported to Pro...

Re: Importing from Wiki structure
That's strange because MindTouch stores all content natively in XHTML and has the ability to output to XML, PDF and JSON. I'm not sure why you would need to copy/paste anything. There's also an API first approach to MindTouch; meaning there is a REST interface built first, before a user interface. ...

Re: How Do I Remove all Hyperlinks from Printed output?
Have just come across exactly the same requirement, have logged the same feature request. It does seem absurd - if I'm producing a word doc or a pdf, then its highly unlikely that any of the hyperlinks in those topics that point outside that TOC will work/be wanted. So there should be a target-level...

Re: Finding commented topic
Thanks Leon - ironically, we had already written a java script (which we put in a button on the toolbar instead) to generate an email with this path - so, great minds etc. With this, we almost do away with 50% of the point of 'Feedback Server'. However, I'd like to be able to use the actual Comments...

Finding commented topic
Hi All, I've tried Madcap helpdesk, and they say it is an enhancement request - but I thought I'd check the wise heads here, in case a workaround has already been found (as it seems like a pretty fundamental problem). We have multiple (15) projects, which we merge at runtime build using a 'master' p...

Re: 'Work to do here' reminders within topics?
Excellent suggestions, which make sense. I think I'll go for the 'snippets' suggestion, as that is easier to train a group of people to do, rather than the styling. My only problem is the projects get so huge, the 'linked from' does often take ages to build - but we can find it through find in file ...
