Re: Word wrap in menu bar of Top Nav skin
I had a similar issue... I have multiple projects that I author in English the localize to French, German, and Spanish. Some of my English menus were too long to fit my max-width (1000px), and most of my localized menus were as well. Worse, when I shrunk the window enough, all of my menus would word...

Re: Any performance tips for running Flare on a VM?
Here are my general notes on using Flare on a variety of VMs Started on a 2GHz 15" MacBook Pro (ca. 2009) running on Boot Camp. This was unacceptable as I like using the Mac environment (BBEdit can't be beat for mass search/replace etc. in lots of text files). However, Boot Camp is an option yo...

Re: Is it possible to ...
You could also create a snippet with a basic <dl> list, insert the snippet where needed, then convert the inserted copy to text and edit it.
You could even make a few snippets with different styles, number of entries, etc.

Re: Hosting Flare WebHelp on Amazon S3
I am loading all my help systems on Amazon S3; it works pretty well but has some drawbacks (no PHP, so custom forms are out of the question) The page to load for your help system is whatever is set as the Output File in the General tab of your skin. I have always manually set this to index.htm; I am...

Re: Create button to print help topic as pdf
If your project is small, it might be worth it to pre-create each page as a PDF, add a download link for the PDF version of the page on the page itself, and include all the PDFs in a folder inside your help system. Otherwise, you will need special software to generate the PDF on the fly. Which can g...

Re: Google Chrome bug?
The latest version of Chrome added support for the @namespace rule in CSS; this implementation is causing the problems we've been seeing with help systems. The "hover" issue apparently only affects help systems built with recent (maybe only the latest?) versions of Flare 11. I have seen it...

Re: Google Chrome bug?
My tri-pane project in Flare 11.1 has only 1 CSS file; after the @import rule I added @namespace MadCap "localhost"; and lo and behold, this worked, even from a live web server! I knew nothing about @namespace until customers and coworkers started reporting this issue and it has been a whi...

Flare 10 screen refresh issues
I am running Flare 10.0.1 on a VM. The VM is Win7 Pro 64 bit, 8GB RAM. It is hosted on VMWare Fusion 6.0.2, running on a quad-core Mac with OS X 10.7.4, 16GB total RAM. (The VM is set to use 2 cores.) Portions of the UI disappear whenever I do something. During initial registration, most of the dial...

Re: Multiple logos?
I had the same issue: I wanted to use one skin for all my help projects, but vary the logo within. I stumbled across this: http://forums.madcapsoftware.com/viewtopic.php?t=16714 I modified this for my purposes. Basically, I have a master project with a skin and other files (my copyright page and oth...

Using a Flare variable for a JavaScript link destination
I want to do something like described here http://forums.madcapsoftware.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=16714 but I want to include a button that links to an external page that varies from project to project. I have tried three different solutions: I made the button's Click event open a generic page fro...

Re: Different TOC results for file access and URL access
Just in general the first thing I would look at is clearing the browser cache. (It's something I always forget, so I finally stuck a Post-It to the top of my monitor to remind me. It works [the Post-It] about 50% of the time.)
I hope that's all it is!

Re: inserting google translator script
I was trying this too, and I found that the Google translator script only works on a served page, not a stand-alone help system. If you are hosting your help on a web server, then you can insert the Google script into a master page, after the <body> tag and before the <MadCap:bodyProxy>, and all wor...

Word output context-sensitive cross refs always in English
Using Flare 6.1. I set my project language to French (for example), then insert a cross-reference. I need to use context-sensitive cross references, so I edit the cross-reference and change it to {pageref}. When I output the Word document, the cross reference is context sensitive (above, below, on p...
