Re: Conditions, levels, and includes overriding excludes

Thanks to all who chimed in, here. I appreciate the information - my conditions are complex and the more I know the more accurate I can make my outputs.

Thanks,
Adriana

Conditions, levels, and includes overriding excludes

Hi everyone,

I am still relatively new to Flare using version 7. I have a large, single-sourced project with several (six and counting) conditions varying from print-only to screen-only, to various audiences. I have a few general questions about how Flare handles conditional coding.

I have noticed ...

Re: Including/linking a PDF in Webhelp Output

Thanks again. It would appear that it's related to the size of the PDF. I broke up the one large one into several smaller ones and they open just fine in Firefox (also in Chrome and IE, but the large one was OK in those browsers, too) as a bigger size, and can be saved and printed.

Re: Including/linking a PDF in Webhelp Output

Hi Ramon,

Thanks for the reply. I actually figured out a piece of this issue - but here's an update.

I copied the PDF file into my project - it's in my PDFHelpTopic folder. Then, I entered text (Reference Manual) and highlighted that text - I then selected Insert > Hyperlink (and I also tried ...

Including/linking a PDF in Webhelp Output

Hi all,

Using Flare 7 to create a webhelp output. I also (using the same project and files) have created a PDF output which I have mapped into my project using External Resources.

I've added a hyperlink to that PDF in one of my topics - but when I generate my webhelp output, the link doesn't work ...

Re: Xref working in webhelp; not in PDF

I've submitted this to Flare as a bug and been told that there are presently no workarounds available for the issue. Here's hoping we'll get a fix at some point!

Thanks,

Re: Xref working in webhelp; not in PDF

Hi everyone,

I have an update that might help shed some light.

So I deleted the target and the TOC because they weren't working, so of no good to me. I started again, smaller this time, with two 'books' instead of all my books. Here are my results:

Created a TOC with the topics laid out how I'd ...

Xref working in webhelp; not in PDF

Hi all,

Using Flare 7 and a single project, single-sourcing to webhelp output and PDF outputs. I'm having some trouble with my cross-references.

They work great in the webhelp output, but in the PDF, I am getting errors that say:

"This file is set to be launched by this PDF file. This is ...

Re: Including PDFs in webhelp outputs - best practice

On another note,

Is there some type of mini-index proxy (I realize that there is not, but could be called something else?), similar to a mini-TOC that would only capture index entries per PDF?

Thanks,
Adriana

Re: Including PDFs in webhelp outputs - best practice

Thanks. I have edited my PDFTOCTopic to use a mini-toc proxy instead of a full toc proxy and the TOCs in the PDFs are blank except for the Table of Contents heading. I thought at first it was because I had set my depth to 1(I only wanted the H1's to show up in the TOC), but then I adjusted the ...

Re: Including PDFs in webhelp outputs - best practice

I've had a chance to play with the idea of a single PDF target creating multiple PDFs. This is working in practice except that the table of contents is a bit messed up.

There are no headings in the left-hand navigation column of the PDF when it's created. I've suppressed the bookmarks but I'd like ...

Re: Including PDFs in webhelp outputs - best practice

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the reply. I think both of your suggestions are good ones - I have been pulled off onto another project just now but I will try both of these when I get back to the Flare help.

Thank you very much!

Re: Including PDFs in webhelp outputs - best practice

Ok, well thanks for the information :)

Sadly, no. Originally, the help was only to be online. But over the past six months, the demand for PDFs is getting louder and louder and is now a requirement. So, my search about how to accommodate the need is on.

Re: Including PDFs in webhelp outputs - best practice

I need to create four PDFs per folder (topic maybe wasn't the best choice of term) - so I have a folder called SubjectA, with topics A-F. At the top of Topic A, I would say to print the PDF click HERE and then it would link to the appropriate PDF.

I will need a total of about 350 PDFs (and counting ...

Including PDFs in webhelp outputs - best practice

Hi all,

I'm using Flare 7. I have a few questions regarding best-practice for including PDFs in my webhelp output.

I have a single Flare project. My main output is webhelp composed of a bunch of topics - there are four separate webhelp outputs. The audience content is controlled with conditional ...

Re: Export/access to skin

Thank you Lisa,

Your advice for the breadcrumbs worked really well and I managed to edit my footnote style in the CSS. It appears as though the default for Flare footnotes in online help is for them to be a pop-up when the footnote is clicked and then you can set the width/height (etc) of that ...

Chapter name in PDF header - new variable?

Hi all,

Using Flare 7.0 and working on my first PDF output. I use both webhelp and PDFs.

I am trying to set up the header for my PDF output target and I would like the h1.ChapterTitle to be pulled into the header on each page, so that all the headers on the pages in the first chapter (for example ...

Does anyone know how to make the default width of the table of contents wider?

Thanks,

Error generating webhelp - separate alias files required?

Hi everyone,

I have a single Flare project and I am producing four separate, conditionally coded webhelp outputs. I use CSH markers in all outputs, but some of the markers are not included in some of the outputs due to conditional coding. I was trying to get away with creating a single alias file ...

Re: Bullet image disappeared

Sorry, my fault for not being clear. I'm saying they don't appear in the Webhelp output when I generate using the default CSS medium or the print CSS medium. But when I change the target to generate using the online css medium, I see them in the webhelp. So I'm wondering where the differences are in ...
