snippets with tables

Flare 6.5 does not seem to support multi-line snippets containing tables - at least, the "Format/Create snippet from content" menu option is grayed out. Is this supported in later Flare versions?

Thanks,

Rick

Re: Table Breaks

That would probably work fine with new documents but I don't think I can use only one table because the header is a snippet - if I add it to an existing table (the document is an import from Word) it remains a separate table and I can't see a merge function that works on tables as opposed to cells ...

Table Breaks

I've been manually inserting breaks into long tables in HTML because there is no "Split Table" command. I can't use table headers because there's a small heading table to support the title - headline and hex offset (left and right flush) which requires a different table class. There seems to be no ...

Re: Disappearing topics Flare v6

A related question is, how can I split a long table into shorter segments? I suspect the answer is, use the raw XML editor because the authoring display does not have a 'split table' command?

Disappearing topics Flare v6

Is there a bug involving table editing that results in loss of a topic? A few times now I've had pages vanish from the authoring view but they're usually out of synch and reappear if I close and reopen the topic. But on some occasions the entire topic vanishes and cannot (AFAIK) be recovered. The ...

Thanks Dave,

Looks good - I've tried to avoid raw XML editing but this looks manageable, thanks very much. 8)

Pretty printing for Assembler

I have hundreds of sample code chunks in Assembler, which are easy enough to represent clearly if you can hang the loop indents and arguments on tabs. But what's the best practice in Flare? Tables would require an arbitrary number of columns and be unpleasantly complicated. Spaces will presumably ...

Re: Table cell content style not saving

I see what it is. If you change the table style it resets all the cells to <TD>, which is vaguely logical - but the authoring display does not reset the visible cells back to <TD> when that happens to reflect reality.

Rather than have to edit all the <TD> tags manually when changing the Table Style ...

Table cell content style not saving

I've got a strange problem with cell content style setting. This is a local setting and should override the CSS. All I need to do is change a <TD> tag to a <TD_16> tag for every cell in the table (the <TD_16> is almost identical but adds a buffer to make room for subscripts). The authoring system is ...

Re: Page Breaks in Word imports

To close the topic, it's just where local page breaks have been applied to <p> tags, which apparently happens automatically during MSWord file import in response to 'keep with next' and similar paragraph formatting controls in the original. To get rid of unwanted breaks just look at the Breaks ...

Re: Editing Heading Variables

Using the topic title in the header is interesting but I need the same header for all of the follow-on topics in a particular chapter and I can't give them all the same title. But perhaps the answer is just to get more manual and define a local header variable for each topic?

Re: Tab rack import from Word

Thanks Nick,
The header line has no borders and has a blank line after it. I've found it easier to use a separate table style with no external borders (and of course the two cells with no borders) than to try to get a table with external borders for line 3 and below only. Generally I can use DIVs to ...

Tab rack import from Word

One Word feature that does not seem to map to Flare is the tab rack. This is causing a problem because I have several hundred tables with titles above the tables that consist of a name (flush left) and an address (flush right) on the same line in <h5>.

Is there any way to duplicate this in Flare ...

Re: missing table cell borders

After a bit of experimenting, it appears to be because the cell contents are individually bound to a <p> class inherited from the source (e.g. MS Word) document (or some other embedded <p> tag). The cell <td> tag remains unbound until the <p> tags are removed, which appears to require cell by cell ...

Re: missing table cell borders

I've got the same problem so some clarification would be useful. Should the (collapsed) cell borders avoid redrawing, i.e. be only on two sides?

Thanks, Rick

Re: Editing Heading Variables

I only use it on two lines to get a large chapter number, so I see what you mean. There is an ugly kludge by making the autonumber heading style different from the <h1>, putting the <h1> heading on the next line, blanking it, and still picking it up in the header:
<body>
<p class="ChapterNumber ...

Re: Editing Heading Variables

Not very useful for this situation, but you can use the chapter name in the header without the autonumber: the autonumber is a style class called e.g. ChapterNumber applied to a blank space and the chapter name is H1 applied to the chapter name. Then pick up H1 for the header without the autonumber ...

Re: Problems reverting to Flare 6.1 after trial of v8

Probably well-known to everyone else, but after some help from Tech Support, found the Show Page Overview Bar icon which toggles the page layout selections on the default page layout. Strange behavior, still haven't found a sequence which always displays it but a combination of docking, floating and ...

Re: Problems reverting to Flare 6.1 after trial of v8

Thinking about it, that doesn't explain the vanishing page layout selection icons, since they are now invisible in both v6 and v8, which makes it very difficult to manage title, normal, empty etc. layouts. It also doesn't explain why the v6 method of inserting variables in footers doesn't work in v6 ...

OK - so the fact they can co-exist does not mean that v8 files can reverse leverage back to v6.1. Thanks Ramon.

Re: Problems reverting to Flare 6.1 after trial of v8

Most of this (Insert Variables) works in v8 but the page layouts (Normal, First etc) do not have selection icons in either v8 or v6. If you duplicate a layout you still have only one layout, the more recent one.

Problems reverting to Flare 6.1 after trial of v8

I used v8 to see if it resolved some MSWord import issues, and it did. Worked fine until the trial expired and I had to revert to v6. Experienced unhandled exception error etc. which were resolved by removing HTML5 skins from the project and re-saving it. But now I'm having real problems with page ...

Re: Two header / footer "objects", one left-aligned, one right?

A table seems sensible - I tried side-by-side frames but I suspect one of them has to be a Decoration frame as someone else said. A table should be easier to manage (especially for us old HTML hacks). But I'm unable to get an insert table dialogue that works - most controls are grayed out when ...
