Re: auto numbering help

All you have to do is delete the text in the mc-auto-number-format field. The headings don't inherit the auto-number formats, so if the field is blank then there won't be any numbering.

I tried to do this, but whenever I erased the field and hit ok, it automatically put GH:{n}.{n}.{n}.{n+} back ...

Re: auto numbering help

No, on the h4, h5, and h6 tags in the stylesheet, set their mc-heading-level attribute to 0. That will prevent them from showing up in the TOC (and mini-TOCs).

So, in the stylesheet editor I would go to: styles>h4>properties>Auto Number>mc-auto-number-format>erase GH:{n}.{n}.{n}.{n+} and insert ...

Re: auto numbering help

If I may bring this back up.

I set up my h1, h2, h3, and h4 to auto number as you describe above and it works great. My boss would like me to only number to h3 in the document and in the TOC. What is the best practice to accomplish this? Should I simply remove GH:{n}.{n}.{n}.{n+} from the Enter ...

Re: Justify ul, li, bulleted list in the stylesheet editor

Just to make sure we're talking about the same thing... Are you talking about left/center/right justification, or are you talking about how far the list is indented from the left side of the page?

I'm talking about in word processors there are buttons to align text left, center text, align text ...

Justify ul, li, bulleted list in the stylesheet editor

How do I edit my stylesheet so that content in my bulleted lists will be justified? This doesn't seem to be an option under unordered list (ul) or list item (li) like it is with p tags. I'm sure there is a simple answer to this, but I'm new. I searched the forum archives and didn't find anything ...

Re: auto numbering help

In the screen you pictured above, you'd enter GH:{n+}. for h1. "G" is indicating that it's a global counter, so your section numbers won't reset to 1 at the beginning of each section. "H" is an ID that identifies this sequence to keep it separate from the numbering sequence in other mc-auto-number ...

Re: Trouble with Page Layouts (new user)

The only purpose of the body frame is to pull content from a topic, not to hold content in the page layout page. You need to use a different type of frame to hold your content in the empty page of the page layout. I think you can use a decoration frame for that (I don't have Flare open at the ...

auto numbering help

numbering help.png

I actually had a Flare engineer try to tackle this issue and we couldn't quite figure it out. I thought it'd be likely that someone here has set up a numbering scheme in the way I'd like to for the manual I'm working on.

I'd like to get an auto numbering scheme that would ...

Re: Trouble with Page Layouts (new user)

Re: Trouble with Page Layouts (new user)

So I'm supposed to change this:

<$paratext[h1]>

to the name of the h1 level that I made in the style sheet, which is:

h1.ChapterTitles

except I need to put an underscore instead of a period, like here:

<$paratext[h1_ChapterTitles]>

Is this correct?

Re: Trouble with Page Layouts (new user)

See this online help topic --> http://webhelp.madcapsoftware.com/flare8/Default.htm#Variables/More_About_Variables/About_Running_HF_Variables.htm. Same concept for running footers as for running headers.

I'm not having much luck.

I've put "PageNumber: 1" variable in frame in the footer.

I've ...

Re: Trouble with Page Layouts (new user)

Would someone mind walking me through setting up my running footers? I think this will involve snippets and/or variables, but I do not have a firm grasp of how to use these features.

I need to set up my page numbers.

I'd also like to set up a footer where the name of the section will generate.

Re: Trouble with Page Layouts (new user)

I made the size of the body frame smaller and made the header frame larger by just clicking and dragging the boxes. Would this method cause me problems down the road? I know it will make my body text not a standard size, but my margins would still be standard.

Trouble with Page Layouts (new user)

I'd like to request some help getting through creating my first page layout. My target is MS Word. I've read the Flare tutorial, I've been through the power point style Flare tutorial, and I've consulted my Flare book. I need some hand-holding. I've added page layout files for the L, R, F, T, and E ...

Re: Student tech writer new to MadCap-New project best practices

1. Copy all the cells in the Word table.
2. Paste that into a spot in your topic. DON'T CLICK ANYWHERE, YET!
3. Directly below the end of the last line, you'll see a little folder icon. Press its down arrow, and then select the Paste Table option.
4. Voila! Instant table! Now you can format the ...
