File size

We have a document that is approximately 1600 pages and maintained in FrameMaker. In addition, it contains several chapters that range from 50 -90 pages each.

What is your experience in moving a doc like this into Flare?

How does Flare perform with such big files and such a large project?

Highlighted text in pdf output

Is it possible to produce a pdf with highlighted text according to the condition text tag?

For example, if I have a conditional text called Revison_2 and I want a reviewer to be able to quickly find this text.

Thanks,

Greg

Frame to Flare

I've imported dozens of Word docs but I am a newbie with Frame importing. Some issues in my first attempts: 1. Flare creates new Pagelayouts. Can I just get rid of them if I have my own already setup? Is there an advantage to keeping them? 2. After I click Finish on the import wizard, the Messages w...

What is the practical difference between using li styles for bullets and lists versus creating p styles with automatic numbering or bullets?

TIA.

Re: multiple guides in one project?

My team has all of our company's material in one project. There is not a lot of common content other than formatting, but I think it's easier to just have everything in one place so you're not jumping back and forth. A good rule of thumb is: if you would ever need to make the same changes in multip...

multiple guides in one project?

Would love to know from the group what you think are the pros and cons of putting multiple guides inside one project versus separating them?

TIA.

Re: creating multiple xrefs at once

When I drag a topic name into a topic, I get an xref automatically. Great. When I drag two or more, I get "Related Topics" but I want to see them individually in a bulleted list. How can I do it? There are about 500 files so clearly I don't want to have to pull them in one at a time. Than...

Expanded TOC in HTML5?

Right now, my output only shows H1 topics.

Is there a way to have it also display H2 headings by default?

Thanks,

Conditional Text

Is there a way to apply a conditional text to a style?

For example, if I don't want any images in a version of online help and I want to get rid of all figure captions in one click.

Thanks

Re: code showing up in Word output

This has been discussed before, but I can't get my fingers on the relevant discussion. There is a bug with Flare's Word generator such that it doesn't process the {b} formatting, which comes from how the auto-number is defined in your p.Note style. The solution is not to use the inline {b} formatti...

RamonS wrote:Did you copy and paste it in from Word as such? The curly braces do not mean anything in regards to inline formatting. Do I assume correctly that in the Flare source they do not show like that?

The braces are not in the Flare source. It also comes out normal (without braces) in the pdf.

code showing up in Word output

I have a note style that appears in Word like this:

{b}Note: {/b}For a new Proposal that has not yet been saved, the cancel option discards the entire Proposal and all of its data.

How do I get rid of the bold code?

Thanks,

snippet looks different in editor

I created a snippet with various styles. Oddly, the editor displays the heading in a different style than set in the snippet. When viewing the text in a preview, the heading has the original style again.

Any idea why?

Thanks.

Re: Heading for Word

This is a known issue - Flare does not map any styles to standard Word ones. There are several options, both requiring post-processing in Word: Do a Find/Replace and change your Hn styles to Heading N styles (H1 to Heading 1, H2 to Heading 2, etc). Here is a link to a conversation where I supplied ...

Heading for Word

When I produce Word output, my headings (which also have numbers) do not appear in the navigation pane.

How can I get it to appear there?

Also, if I add a section in Word, the numbering doesn't change. Is this a related issue?

Thanks

Re: "%20" Inserted into Folder Names

I try to avoid using spaces in folder and file names, and have used some Help Editors that don't allow them. Which may explain how the syntax was added to your project. Although it seems to me the programs I used inserted an underscore. Have you accessed these directories with any other software, l...

Re: "%20" Inserted into Folder Names

RamonS wrote:%20 is the HTML encoding for space. This is necessary for URLs to be a continuous string. Where exactly do you see this?
Several files and folders have it. For example:

Folders:
- Auto%20Index%20Sets
- Auto%20Suggestion%20Sets
- Browse%20Sequences

Files:
- ABC%20

"%20" Inserted into Folder Names

For some reason, I have some folders that have inserted a "%20" in place of a space. For example:
- Auto%20Index%20Sets
- Auto%20Suggestion%20Sets
- Browse%20Sequences

How did it get there?

How do I get rid of it?

Thanks,
