So I'm way late to the table on this discussion. But I think this discussion should be at the top of every thinking tech writer's list. In a world where writers are fewer, editors are scarcer, tools teams are now the tech writers (in many mid- to small-sized companies) and the demand for info increa...

Error: keyword link control does not contain index keywor...
Anybody know why I'm getting this error? I simply inserted an Index Search help control pointed at a few index keywords, and when I do a build, i get this error.
An MC KB article says this was fixed way back in v9.1. So this must either be a reemergence, or a completely different issue.

Re: Any word on the next release?
Of course. Let me ask it in a different way. Since Flare is released annually--and many companies, including ours, do the same--can we expect similar planning around Pulse?
I totally understand NOT leaking a release date. Thanks for the response, Nita.

When does Pule-enabled help content "check in" with Pulse?
My development team is concerned that the Pulse server is getting pinged even when the Help system is not open. That seems strange to me since analytics should be tied to user behavior while using the help system, not the associated product. Our product UI is web-based. but that still doesn't explai...

Any word on the next release?
As we grapple with issues around registering users and other known anomalies, can we expect a new release anytime soon?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Enabling Social without Breaking Corporate Security?
We recently rolled out Pulse to launch our first, doc-focused customer community. However, our internal security police have identified some security issues. Namely, that when running Help content that is Pulse-enabled, where the Pulse server is hosted externally in a cloud, you have opened a potent...

Re: Creating API Documentation
Nancy, this is the kind of thing we want to produce. Did you have to use a third party tool to extract the code comments for the API reference, or do you have a home-grown method for extracting them directly into Flare?
Love to know your thoughts on this!
Thank you.

Mastering the Art of Complex Auto-Numbering for Print Target
As I've had to grapple with a complex book--Parts, Chapters, Appendices within Parts at the same level as chapters within Parts...ugh!--I've been on the phone with MadCap's truly amazing support team. We've pulled a number of tricks to accomplish the auto-numbering of these book components to ensure...

Re: How to capture drop down menus in Capture?
Love that Delay Capture is now in Capture v6. But what surprises me is that with the "tight integration" between Flare 9 and Capture 6, the delay feature does not appear to be part of the screen capture workflow from within Flare! So I am back to leaving Flare, opening Capture, taking my r...

Re: Project Setup Question
I have a single project that includes 16 books, each in a separate folder. Each book has its own PDF target, and some include HTML targets. As separate PDFs, they range in size from about 10 pages to over 300 pages. When I initially converted from FrameMaker to Flare last summer, I thought I would ...

Re: Importing from Wiki structure
We've had issues with getting our CHM files into MindTouch. Add the rather heavy, annual cost for hosting and Flare is winning hands down. Sad though, since MindTouch does offer some very interesting analytics, social, and KB functionality. But if you want CSH, plan on paying even more than you did ...

Re: New Single-sourcing discussion
Another good point for plain vanilla HTML output is generating readmes in HTML. I'm still amazed at how many companies create txt and rtf readme files, which really are a pain to format. With the power of CSS and HTML, it is so easy to generate a simply formatted readme. But you'll have to do it out...

Re: Creating API Documentation
Leslie, so how did you get the 400 topics in there? Word? Copy and paste? Are you using code comments written by developers, or did you have to extract the info from developer brains and write it up yourself? I'm so curious how and what others are doing who are facing this scenario. I too would give...

Creating API Documentation
I have started a new group on LinkedIn ("Technical Writers and SDK Doc") to spark discussions about methods being used to generate and build SDK documentation. I've asked MadCap whether any of their customers generate SDKs with Flare. Mike Hamilton mentioned that Microsoft does this (code ...
