How to make the abstract disappear?
I have a weird issue with a project that is linked to my primary project TOC - any topic in the "child" (or linked) project is not listening to the Abstract Character Limit setting and essentially displaying a bunch of code gobbledygook in the abstract. Rather than try to fiddle with it, I...

Re: Cross Reference in footer of Page Layout not working
Hi all - I am also having this problem - there has never been a resolution posted to this thread. Is there something out there someone knows of that allows me to link back to the TOC topic from the footer of every page?

Re: How to change text direction for page layout design

How to change text direction for page layout design
I'm working on re-designing print docs for 2017 and one of the designs is for the chapter pages (fly pages) to have CHAPTER # going vertically down the side of the page. How do I change the text direction? Is this done in the page layout file or the topic that holds the content for the chapter page?...

Re: Cross-Reference to Bookmarks not showing heading
adelleolson, I ended up opening a support ticket and MadCap support found an issue in our style sheet. Here's the response from them: This behavior is occurring because the anchor tag "<a>" has a value of block for its display property in the .css file. The <a> tag is a not a block element...

Re: Bullets misaligned in print only
Oh that's awesome - it worked! Not sure why in Flare 11 it wasn't causing an issue!
Thanks!
Thanks!

Bullets misaligned in print only
Upgraded to Flare 12 last week and seeing weird issues in print outputs this week. Bulleted lists are not aligned correctly in print outputs only; the web version of the same topic displays fine (see attached example). Can't tell what I need to fix in the stylesheet, the bullet style or the ul style...

Re: Cross-Reference to Bookmarks not showing heading
Have you checked to see if you are linking to a heading that contains a variable? If so, this is fixed in Flare 12. This is a known issue in Flare 11 (and earlier). This fix in Flare 12 was a HUGE win for us. I wish it was that easy - we actually stopped adding variables to headings because of that...

Cross-Reference to Bookmarks not showing heading
I'm on Flare 11 - predominantly used for Web output. We are starting to convert a lot of our web content to PDF targets for a our knowledge base. My issue is with cross-references that link to a heading/section of a topic with a bookmark. These cross-references work fine in the Web output, but when ...

Best practice for image styles? p tag vs img tag
I am trying to find the most efficient way to style images, and if possible I want to create ONE style that does all of the following: Centers the image for print output Left-aligns the image for web output Max-width no larger than 6.00 in for print output Pops up upon mouse over for web output So f...

Styles aren't working when I link a TOC to an outside target
Here's my setup: I've got a TOC in a master project for an HTML 5 target that has a "chapter" linked to an outside project and target that are set to merge at runtime. For some reason the linked target is not applying the stylesheet to those topics. All the topics in the master project and...

Re: see also links include the currently viewed topic
So is there a recommended work around for this?
Other than switching to using a Relationship Table (which I don't want to do).
Curious if anyone has any advice on how to go about dealing with this until the bug is addressed.

Re: How to auto collapse all drop downs and expanding text
Thanks - the expand all togglers topic was more on track with what I'm experiencing, except I want the opposite to happen, and I'm using drop downs and expanding text. Any other thoughts on whether or not this is even a feature in Flare? I could have sworn there was some sort of option to have them ...

How to auto collapse all drop downs and expanding text
I've searched high and low because I SWEAR I saw this exact question before, but alas, I am stuck. I want my HTML5 output to show all drop downs and expanded text as collapsed when the user first enters a topic. For some reason this works inconsistently in my output. Sometimes they're open and somet...

What happened to my navigation panel?
Was there some sort of update or browser change that makes my navigation panel turn into three little lines that the user has to click every time they want to get to the Contents, Glossary, or Index? My output used to look like this: 2.png But now it looks like this: 1.png I've tried looking for a s...

Re: Opening a topic with the Navigation bar open
Since this is a fairly recent post, I want to piggy back off of the original question. What if you have Automatically Sync TOC selected in the skin, but it's still not working on F1? It works in all other aspects, e.g. if I click a cross reference within a topic or copy/paste a topic URL into a new ...

Re: TOC include H1 style in a page layout header?
Thanks - I think that is the most logical route to go when I can do a re-design of this doc. For now, my workaround is to have a teeny tiny H1 that comes just before the content, I made it white and size 2 pt font so that it's basically invisible - but definitely in my TOC.

TOC include H1 style in a page layout header?
I have a very specific issue that I'd like a simple "yes" or "no" for if something is possible in Flare 10. I am working on a PDF target and I need the information from the header of the page layout (a snippet) to display as a line in the TOC. For example, my document has 3 secti...

Thank you, Dave!
We've been trying to use concept markers in our topics, but never understood the benefit other than adding them as options when a user searches.

Re: RelTables: How did MadCap do it?
Still no luck on this one, everyone!
I've tried combining all of my items in the relationship table into one column to try to make the output display as one chunk, but Flare doesn't like that and it doesn't display the reltable info at all in the output.
Any thoughts?

RelTables: How did MadCap do it?
I always like how MadCap's webhelp has the little See Also section w/ all the related links at the bottom of the topics. We use a relationship table in our output and I can't figure out 2 things: 1. How to get all of the related information into one "chunk" in the output 2. How to get it t...

Re: CSH and metadata - am I doing it right?
Another question, as I'm thinking more about this topic:
Could I use the help ID development assigns each window as the Identifier or Value in the alias file? Would that eliminate the need for pasting it into the <head></head> of each topic?

CSH and metadata - am I doing it right?
For several years now, our developers have coded "help IDs" (metadata) into the application's windows, which we take and paste into the <head></head> of our topics for web help. As far as I can tell, our target is not referring to any alias file, but I am really confused on how our topics ...

I have a document that is not allowing me to hyperlink or cross-reference to another topic within the TOC. My troubleshooting measures so far: 1. Confirmed "Create links from URLs" is selected in my PDF preferences. 2. Confirmed that the TOC includes the topics I am trying to x-ref. 3. Tri...
