Hi Isleofgough,
Do you have problems if the total size of all images in the topic or project is 1 MB or more, or only if a single one of the images in a topic is 1 MB?
thanks, Lisa

Re: Flare performance and RAM?
I agree. The length of time to launch Flare has been raised by others previously; your experience mirrors mine for length and I only have 2.8 Gb of RAM.
Typing too fast for Flare to keep up is one of my pet peeves. I end up using Word to create new topics, which is hardly useful. And I am nowhere ...

Re: Flare performance and RAM?
Thanks for contributing your experience. This definitely lends credence to the Flare tech guy's assertion that 8 Gb RAM is needed.

Re: Flare performance and RAM?
Missed the laptop part.....laptop? Do you travel a lot? Laptops are notorious underperformer unless you get one of these mobile workstations.
I hadn't mentioned it, that's why it's new info here. No, laptops are what we get. Standard issue. I don't know of anyone who gets a box anymore. Maybe the ...

Re: Flare performance and RAM?
It all depends on the IT admin's willingness to go out and buy RAM at street prices.
<sigh> Ain't that the truth. My guess is they fork out the mega bucks. Why else would we have to request a new computer; rather than upgrade the RAM they order a machine with the configuration. I expect if I broke ...

Re: Flare performance and RAM?
One thing you can do, though, is disable GDI+ rendering. It's a truly massive difference in speed and responsiveness, to the point that I'm not sure why it's enabled by default. (I've only ever left GDI+ enabled on a Core i7 with 12GB of RAM, if that says anything.) To disable: Tools > Options ...

Re: Flare performance and RAM?
We're mostly being upgraded to Win 7. Computers generally don't get replaced, they just get recycled through the company until they totally fall apart.

Flare performance and RAM?
A group of us in corporate environment are having huge issues with slow screen redraws, launching Flare, display crumbling (chunks go missing), fonts change in style sheets, Flare can't keep up with typing (to the point we use other word processers), scrolling very jerky, Flare crashes frequently (2 ...

Re: How to ensure use of default table content style
The styles for td (if any are defined) are in your default stylesheet. Table stylesheets are used to apply classes to table cells when Flare creates output files.
This is enlightening.

Re: How to ensure use of default table content style
I was looking at the table stylesheet in Notepad. There isn't a way that I know of to look at the CSS code itself in Flare.LTinker68 wrote:Do you mean you're looking at your original Framemaker or Word doc in Notepad, or do you mean you're looking at the topic in Flare?

Re: How to ensure use of default table content style
I am going to have to bring this to the person in my group who is responsible for the CSS. In looking at the doc in Notepad (no way to do this in Flare), I see no TD tags anywhere. And it looks like styles are usrd, but they are not showing in Flare.

Re: How to ensure use of default table content style
Ah... so what you are saying is that I need to go into the code and change the code, not work in the dialog boxes.
Okay. Thank you. I am glad to see that I do not have to go row by row, cell by cell to do this.

Re: How to ensure use of default table content style
I don't understand what you are asking here.
When I look at the table stylesheet there is no option for cell contents. Only for borders, breaks, header and footer row visual effects.
What am I missing?

How to ensure use of default table content style
I have docs converted from Framemaker and Word.
If I apply an existing Flare table style to an existing table (because the doc won't apply the table style when importing), I still have to go in to every table and manually specify the paragraph style to apply to the text.
This is tedious and time ...

I cannot import any Framemaker documents into Flare because I need BOTH programs?
Why?
How do I get around that? Getting Framemaker installed is not an option.

Re: How to view/edit topic in a specific page layout
HA. Okay, that solved it. Lesson learned: when using multiple page layouts, do NOT specify a master page layout anywhere.
Thanks so much for your help!

Re: How to view/edit topic in a specific page layout
thanks for the suggestion, Kellie. Unfortunately this is not causing the topic to display in the landscape layout. I tried closing and re-opening the topic after saving the TOC change, too. <sigh>

Re: How to view/edit topic in a specific page layout
This is one page of a 100-page document. It's inserted into the main target PDF, just the layout for the page is landscape instead of portrait. It's a special diagram that does not fit visually onto the regular page layout. So the target is already the primary target. But this page uses a different ...

How to view/edit topic in a specific page layout
Flare 8. I have a topic whose print output is oriented landscape. How do I work with the topic in its own special layout rather than the project's default layout?

Thanks for the tip. I had to rebuild one of my Flare folders to get the topics to appear: CatapultMdiEditor. Also works to quit and restart Flare.

Where are imported Word topics?
I am using Flare 8.1.1.
I have imported 2 Word documents. They are accessible through the project organizer if I open the separate Word TOC.
However I see do not see the imported topics in the content explorer. According to the Flare help, I should at the very least see a folder called Word ...
