Can't apply a different stylesheet to topics/project

I have a separate target for pdfs and I've assigned a different stylesheet to it. However, when I'm working in a topic file associated with that target, the styles from that separate stylesheet aren't available in the style picker, styles window, right-click style menu, etc. Flare Help says I can ap...

Re: Creating multiple, small pdfs instead of one long pdf

Dave Lee, I ended up creating separate targets and TOCs for each pdf, which is a bit tedious but doable. HOWEVER, now I can't seem to link to them from regular Help topics. We have two types of pdf: Type 1 was created before we moved to Flare. Those pdfs live in a Flare folder, and all the links to ...

Re: Error when building pdf: "Object reference not set..."

Thanks for the suggestions. When I opened Flare this morning and said OK to getting the latest versions of the files, I received the error message again (not associated with a build attempt). I tried the "clean project" solution, which deleted many of the files but told me I didn't have ac...

Error when building pdf: "Object reference not set..."

I'm trying to build a new pdf target and am getting the classic error message "Internal error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object." It's a very simple target, with only one topic file. To complicate matters, my co-worker has no trouble building the target. I don't have an...

Re: Creating multiple, small pdfs instead of one long pdf

Thank you, I'll give this a try. I saw this information but wasn't sure this process would result in individual pdf files that I could link to directly.

Creating multiple, small pdfs instead of one long pdf

Flare Help for pdfs seems to refer only to creating one pdf with multiple chapters. You have to create a TOC, author multiple files, and associate those files with a single target. I need to do something quite different: generate multiple short pdfs. Each pdf would be a separate file, and I don't wa...

Line breaks in search results

The search results in our WebHelp project look terrible: The lines break in ridiculous places, sometimes moving the final letter or word to a second line.

Any suggestions?

Re: Publish failure: problem with access to file

Now I think I follow you, but I don't understand how the published files would also come to be linked to source control. Our process is that I check files out of source control onto my hard drive, edit, and then check them back in. Flare builds to server A, and then theoretically publishes to Server...

Webhelp output pointing to a pdf

Flare apparently treats pdf outputs as completely separate from Webhelp outputs, but we want to combine them. With our "old" online help system, some of our topics included links that pointed to pdf files. We created the pdfs by converting Word documents. Is there an easy way in Flare Webh...

Re: Publish failure: problem with access to file

I'm not sure I follow you, Marjorie. Yes, our target file is also in source control, but as with all the other files, we check it out before changing it, and then check it back in. How does this relate to the publishing problem? Why would building work and publishing fail? We contacted MadCap Suppor...

Re: Publish failure: problem with access to file

This is maddening--when we delete the problem file, a different file becomes the problem: with the same message about "access denied." I can only assume that Flare is going to reject every single topic, one at a time.

As noted, we don't receive any error messages with the build process.

Re: Publish failure: problem with access to file

We really don't want to move our files manually, but we might have to resort to that.

As I mentioned, there is no apparent difference between this file and others in its folder--the problem isn't a matter of permissions, and it's not checked out.

Thanks anyway!

Publish failure: problem with access to file

I'm desperate! Our repeated attempts to publish our target fail for the same reason every time: "Access to the path 'yadda yadda.filename.htm' is denied." This is just a tiny, unimportant file in the scheme of things, and I can't discern a difference between this file and its folder-mates....

Re: intermittent Flare 9 lockups

OK, everything WAS working correctly. For about a minute. And now it's reverted to my Backspace and Delete keys not working, as well as keyboard shortcuts. This is extremely tedious.

Re: intermittent Flare 9 lockups

I wasn't able to use the Backspace or Delete keys or any of the keyboard shortcuts in the XML Editor, so I took the advice to switch from the Ribbon to a toolbar configuration. That didn't make any difference, so I switched back to the Ribbon. And now everything is working correctly! It's a miracle!...

Keyboard not working in XML Editor for Flare 9

This makes NO sense to me: I upgraded to Flare 9.1 yesterday. I can type in the XML Editor, but I can't delete or backspace, and the keyboard shortcuts--like CTRL+B for Bold--don't work. Delete and backspace work correctly in the Text Editor, but of course keyboard shortcuts don't work there anyway....

Binding to TFS: Do I create the TFS folder first?

I have an existing Flare project (AcmeHelp.flprj) that I want to bind to TFS in an existing TFS folder called "Help_projects." So I want the TFS structure to be "[root]/Help_projects/AcmeHelp." My questions: 1. Do I create the AcmeHelp folder in TFS before binding, or does the pr...

Duplicate fbconf files for different users

When I configured a Flare target with the license key for Feedback Explorer, it created an fbconf file on my local hard drive. When my fellow admin opened the same target--with the same key--and clicked "Configure with Feedback Explorer Application," she created an identical fbconf file on...

Re: I Want to limit search results to specific Target/TOC

We're using Flare 8, and the "exclude" check box isn't working for us. We have one Project with two targets (Cat and Dog). Each target has its own TOC, and we have used conditions so that only Cat topics appear in the Cat TOC, and Dog topics appear in the Dog TOC. This part is working fine...

But it's the "manual typing" we were hoping to avoid, since we've already tagged the titles in the topics themselves!

Thanks.

Re: Condition tags not working in TOC

Situation: One topic has a title with condition tags (Cat and Dog), so that different versions of the title appear in Cat Help and Dog Help. Ideally, the Cat TOC and Dog TOC would recognize those condition tags and display different titles also. Solution: You (Greg and Nita) seem to be saying that t...
