download a file from a hyperlink

I'm working on an HTML5 output project and I've got .xsd files that my team wants users to be able to download. So I include the .xsd file in my project and created a hyperlink to the file. When clicked it opens in a new browser window or tab, or if a user right-clicks they can select Save As... Tha...

Re: What Output Format are You Using

Most of our products are web-based applications and we use HTML5 with Top Nav design. Top Nav is used for those applications that are more complex with a lot of topics and different areas such as admin tools, tasks, references, etc. We have a few older products that are desktop products that ship wi...

Re: Adding users to MadCap Central

I've been able to add users without a problem. The email had a link to Central that took them right to the dialog allowing them to create their password. In the email it was just the word "link" as in "Please confirm and login by clicking this link." The word "link" was...

Post build event not copying file

I've got Flare 2016 r2 with the new pre and post build event feature. I need to copy a file from my hard drive to the project output folder. I have been doing this manually after builds, but now I thought I'd try the post-build event feature, but it's not working. In the target post-build event comm...

Re: Push updated files to Central fails on one project

This issue is now fixed.

I ended up doing the following:

Unbind the project in Flare.
Delete the project in Central.
Rebind/upload the project to Central.

Everything now works. Probably just some weird glitch in my project.

Push updated files to Central fails on one project

I'm testing the beta of Central. With one small test project everything seems to work fine. With a larger project, I made updates to a few topics, but when I try and push the changed topics to Central I get the following error: Pushing local changes to remote... Error occurred in LibGit2Sharp : GitL...

Re: What are File Tags?

I use file tags for keeping track of status, such as In Progress, Out for Review, Final, Ready for Translation, Out for Translation, Complete, etc. In the Project Organizer under Project > Advanced > File Tags you can add new tag sets etc. I use them especially to sort on the file tag if I need to s...

Build failed

Flare 12; I'm getting an error when I attempt to build HTML5 output. I get the "object reference not set to an instance of an object" message. Other projects build just fine. It's only this one project that fails. It used to work just fine. I hadn't touched it in a couple of months but the...

Create button to print help topic as pdf

Just got an interesting request from our internal client services folks. They asked if it was possible to create a button in the help system, that when pressed would create a PDF file from the current topic. We know that you can print to a file, but depending on the browser used, that can be very ea...

Re: Printing a topic from top nav output prints 100 pages

We had another person here do a bit of research and apparently it's an Internet Explorer issue. We've only had it happen in when in IE. Chrome and Firefox works fine. We haven't found any fix in IE and it looks like this type of thing goes back a few years! We are still trying to figure out if there...

Printing a topic from top nav output prints 100 pages

I have a top nav project. When some topics are printed, they print fine. When some topics are printed, even though they are only a page or two long, the printer wants to print 100 pages!. We've seen this on some topics and not others, and it always seems to be 100 pages that it thinks should be prin...

Top Nav output: I know in the top nav skin under Global, Main Page, you can set the size, maximum width. The width of the content changes just fine but I'd like to be able to left align the content. It seems always to be centered. We'd like to be able to left align the content since sometimes a grap...

Caching issue with WebHelp

My dev team recently reported a caching issue with webhelp. They say that at times when an updated webhelp project is deployed, the browser's cache has to be cleared in order for the correct, most recent files to be displayed. We hadn't noticed this behavior before; just in the last couple of months...

Re: Any value in indexes for WebHelp or HTML5 outputs?

We are phasing out the use of an index in our WebHelp output and as we move to the "top nav" format there won't be an index. Instead we are improving the search capability in all our projects. We are using concepts and the search filter to give our users better results. However even if the...
