Re: Global Project Linking reimporting not working

Hi Sprockets, No, I didn't ever get GPL working as I hoped it would. But I've not used Flare very much in the last couple of years, and in that time, there have been lots of changes and new features, so I'm not really the best person to give advice about the current situation. I do miss Flare though...

Re: Webbased review / commenting system

Hi there,

I don't have any other solution to propose, but I wondered how you were getting on with hypothes.is? We too need to be able to review web-based content, so I'd be very interested in how this is working for you, if you can spare a few minutes to give an update.

Many thanks!

Re: Automatic page breaks inconsistent

A few things occur to me, none that likely, but since you have checked the likely stuff, here we go. Is it just one person who has the problems, or could it be any writer? If it could be any writer, then even if there is a valid reason (as yet unknown) why Flare is paginating differently for differe...

Hi there,

I've just spotted this post. DId you find a solution, and if so, what did you go for? I find myself with a similar requirement.

Re: window size persistence feature and SVN (or other)

I did, ages ago. Perhaps you would like to add your voice too? The more voices they have, the more likely it is that something will be done about it. As well as the two examples I mentioned (the window size and the text shown for cross references) there is a third content change that doesn't represe...

Re: Flare 12, target versions, and marked as changed

It's won't be updated every time the file changes, just the first time you accessed an old Flare V9 file from Flare V12. MadCap periodically updates the XML structure of some of their project files to add support for new features, and that attribute is the one they use to indicate which version the ...

Re: Paragraph class misbehaving

I don't know if this would work, but there is a z-index property you can set in CSS. This specifies the order the layers of your content are stacked in. Higher numbers are closer to the reader, and lower numbers are closer to the back of the page. So perhaps try setting a z-index value of 0 for the ...

Re: Connecting relationship proxy to specific relationship t

I don't think so, or at least, not easily, as the relationship table (or tables) to use are set at the target level. Feature request, perhaps? What you can do, which may meet your needs, is have a single proxy that shows more than one subheading, with different topics listed under each. You differen...

Re: advance to next topic?

I'd go for a single TOC for closely related content, which conditions to control which content ends up in which targets wherever possible. This is more maintainable, as it means that when you modify content, you only have to make changes in one place, rather than having to remember which TOCs the ch...

Re: Conflict: mc-heading-level vs. Use TOC depth

Well, I've just found this post after a gap of several years. It's saved me an hour or two of frustration, so thanks guys. But now it's time for my rants. :-( Why doesn't mc-toc-depth work for TOCs in the same way as it works for mini-TOCs? If it doesn't work, why does the stylesheet editor in Flare...

No, not added in Flare 11. :-(

But if you would like to PM me with your email address, I'll send you a copy of an article I wrote for the ISTC Communicator magazine about how I have set up a stylesheet to implement review annotations that can be included or excluded from outputs as you choose.

Re: logical problem of having a single level 1 heading

I have lots of topics with just a level 1 heading. I single-source WebHelp and PDF, and these end up being the book topics in the WebHelp TOC that you click on to show the list of topics in that book. In the PDF, they are just the chapter headings. I am tending to move away from lots of very small t...

Re: Best/Normal practice for PDF outputs

I've had no problems with leaving Flare to decide where to put the page breaks in PDFs. I do have "page-break-after: avoid" set for my heading styles. But, and this is a big but - I do see problems if the content has drop-down headings and bodies. I do this in places because I single sourc...

How to make "Preview As" non-modal for PDFs

I've recently discovered how to make Flare's Preview As window non-modal for PDFs - that is, you don't need to close it before you can get back to the topic you were previewing. This means you can check through the preview, and fix each problem in the topic as you find it. I was so delighted to have...

Re: For SVG graphics, what are the system dependencies?

Thank you Riley! :-) :-) One of our developers and I have just been puzzling why Flare's SVG images stopped working. Re: Help! Resources dir added to all paths

More questions . . . Do you do an auto re-import on build? Are the extra references to /Resources in file paths appearing in the imported files, or in files that reference the imported files, or both? Is it possible to go back to the project before the mess-up, and see if the problem occurs there no...

Re: Why is 'autonum' there and then again gone?

I agree. I don't think Flare should change topic content unless it's a real content change or a real style change. There's MadCap:lastHeight and MadCap:lastWidth in the <html> tag too that get changed on occasions. This makes it very hard to identify genuine changes that will be replicated in output...

Re: Table stylesheets messing up column widths (resolved)

Hi Dave, Sorry, what I meant was that your solution of adding the changes to the main stylesheet wasn't ideal either, rather than it wasn't ideal, full stop. That is also hitting at a moving target, since MadCap keep changing table styles, so with each new version of Flare you have to revisit all yo...

I don't think you can do this at the topic code level, unless someone knows otherwise . . . You can only use snippets for topic text. And even then, you can't put one or more table rows in a snippet, although several of us have asked for that as an enhancement. You can put a whole table in a snippet...
