Re: How do I clear the "Recent" list on the Start page?
Regarding, switching off the auto-launch of the Start page, I think I've cracked it. After a re-install, this has been driving me insane, as every time I open any project, the Start page launches for no useful reason. Go to the Options dialog. Choose the General tab. About half way down, there is an...

Re: Let's not lose our corporate memory!
Ah. I hadn't realised the cost of Slack per user. Yikes! That makes sense. I refer to this forum, for the same reason as @RStreets - too many other competing tools that already ping, message and email throughout the day. At least here, you can search back through and pose a question, if you need to....

Re: Let's not lose our corporate memory!
Hi, I don't use the Flare Slack channels, as I always refer to this forum. However, if Slack messages are dropping off after 90 days, it's because the Workspace owner or Organisation owner has specified that in the settings. By default, they're retained for the lifetime of the workspace. So contact ...

eLearning Templates - Multiple Response Knowledge Check issue
Hi, Has anyone else encountered an issue with the eLearning Templates, if you set up a Multiple Response Knowledge Check (rather than a Multiple Choice one)? The basic Cabrillo template only ever uses a maximum of 3 choices in a Multiple Response Knowledge Check. I've set up a few Multiple Response ...

Re: Word: "Build failed: Generation of output can not be...."
I just had this error too. I thought the Word output generation was just hanging indefinitely, as the file wasn't being launched. If you use Alt + Tab on Windows, you can spot the Word Security Notice popup window and then confirm to get rid of it. This is horrible, and I wonder why it's now happeni...

have you tried mc support? they are pretty much blowing me off, saying it's an issue w/ my windows - even tho right-click context menus work everywhere but here, even in flare Sorry have been busy. Yes. Tried support. Tried their suggestions, but not working. Even though I have image editors instal...

Re: 'open linked file with' for images - menu option broken
Hi ChoccieMuffin,
I'm not running Flare on a Mac using a Windows VM, I'm on Windows.
Setting a default program in Windows Explorer doesn't make any difference either.
It's odd that the same menu option works for multimedia files, but not for images.
Cheers!

Re: 'open linked file with' for images - menu option broken
Hi cayennep, Just tried this and it's a bug. If you right-click on a multimedia item and choose Open Linked File With , Flare gives you an arrow and a choice of available external tools. If you right-click on an image and choose Open Linked File With , Flare doesn't do anything, despite various exte...

eLearning Template - page numbering fix
Hi, Just in case anyone else trips over this... I have been using the Cabrillo eLearning template to create various training modules. During testing, our engineer noted that the page numbering was confusing - when launching the modules. I didn't realise it even showed page numbers, but found that th...

Re: Delimiter requirements for "Paste Table"?
I don't think there is any way to specify delimiters for a table imported into Flare. Instead, I would just take the plain text file, dump it into Word, where you can specify the delimiter you want, make sure the columns and data are all correct. Then, just paste it from Word into Flare as a table, ...

Re: Micro-content in filtered HTML5 search results
Hi, I know this dates from a year ago, but I have just encountered this precise issue. I added in some new search filters to my Flare project. However, when I searched with one of the new filters selected, I got Micro content results that were not related to the new search filter, rather than just t...

Re: HTML5 Side Nav output - no Side Nav
If it's the skin that's missing, but the topic content looks all right, then I'd start by looking at the path to the skin folder. (I feel like I've seen other posts saying that it remained capitalised, even though the links were changed to lowercase, but I could be misremembering.) The other option...

Re: HTML5 Side Nav output - no Side Nav
This is almost always caused by mismatched capitalization. Somewhere you've referenced something by typing in a name manually and you typed it with different capitalization than is used in the file name. This works in Windows because the file system is not case sensitive, but it won't work anywhere...

Thank you both - doloremipsum and RStreets for your replies. @doloremipsum - Can't see anything obvious that could be causing it in the developer tools and can't replicate it on the webserver. @RStreets - Would be very interested to see if you experience any problems. Thank you for testing on Linux....

HTML5 Side Nav output - no Side Nav
Hi, I'm creating HTML5 output from Flare 2022, using a knowledge base template with Side Nav. Looks great locally and on the webserver. However, when I upload it to a Linux machine and launch it in the Firefox browser on there, there is no Side Nav shown, no matter how large the browser window (maxi...

Re: Download an old Flare version
Hi Mark, It seems to be very difficult to find where to download older versions of Madcap Flare on their website. As long as you already have a software key, you should be able to enter it here: https://www.madcapsoftware.com/downloads/licensed-products/ and then, once you get to the next page, ther...

I am updating in the target (Variables tab). I could always update the definition in the past so I'm unsure why it doesn't now. Have you tried going to the Project Organizer > Variables folder and updating the relevant variables at that level? That's where I normally make the changes. Regards, Feeb...

Stumbled across a strange one... Searching for found in my HTML5 output returns no results, despite the word being in numerous places. Happening for anyone else? Re: Fonts
Hi,
As far as I know, if you install the font on your machine (i.e. in C:\Windows\Fonts), you will then see it in the list of available fonts, the next time you fire up Madcap Flare.

Re: Build Variables and whitespaces
Is there any way around this? I simply wouldn't recommend using a directory structure that contains spaces at all. Windows might cope with it, but other platforms don't. I learnt this long ago, when inadvertently checking a new help output into our (Linux-based) source control, ready to be included...

Hi, If you open the Flare Options dialog, on the General tab, do you have the Prefer Local Help option enabled? If not, that may be why it doesn't launch locally, provided you downloaded it. Re: How to ignore accentuated characters in HTML5 Madcap sea
Hi MAF, I would try using synonyms to solve this. (If you don't already use synonyms, right-click to create a synonyms file within the Project Organizer , under Advanced .) You can set up an individual synonym, for example: deja=déjà Or maybe, even better, in your synonyms file, you could set up a G...
