Re: Cannot capture screen into a new file with profile
Actually the Untitled.bmp file is using the correct profile, as shown at the bottom of the window. And when I do a Save as, the default format is PNG so that tells me that the file is taking on the properties of the profile. It's just weird why Capture doesn't directly capture into the first tab (Un...

Cannot capture screen into a new file with profile
I've updated to Flare 2018r2, and I don't know if the update also changed Capture 7. Here's the problem when I try to create a new screen capture: First, I use File > New > New from Profile to create a new tab in the Capture editor. Everything looks fine and the tab title is Untitled.png, with prope...

Re: Annotation font size became too large to fit in bubble
I just found the root cause of this problem: This is due to the fact that I changed the text size to 125% in Windows. In the Control Panel, you can make on-screen text and object larger for readability. This problem went away after I changed back the size back to 100%. This is a nasty Capture bug, I...

Re: Annotation font size became too large to fit in bubble
Yes, I did change my screen resolution in Windows a couple of times and don't remember which change preceded this Capture problem. I mentioned this to MadCap but tech support said it shouldn't have an effect on Capture. The Windows setting normally shouldn't affect how things are being processed wit...

Annotation font size became too large to fit in bubble
This seems to be a serious Capture problem. I have a lot of image files with annotations contained in bubbles. The font is Open Sans 11 point. All along this has been fine until recently. Capture silently made the font size too large to be contained in the bubble, even though the font size specifica...

Yes, at our company the SMEs also use google docs to collaborate too, which means that I also have the same problem of having to copy/paste stuff into MadCap Flare

Re: Make Search result jump to list entry
This is an annoying problem. I called MadCap and was told that there was a feature request. This problem occurs not only for a table as described in the original post. It happens for each search. The topic containing the search string doesn't automatically scroll to the first occurrence of the searc...

Re: "Operation Rename failed" error
This happens to me if my project is on a network drive. If I try to rename a file, I'd get: Operation rename failed: Could not find a part of the path. To rename, I'd have to rename it outside of the Flare UI (e.g., in Windows Explorer). But it's not a good idea because I would not get the message a...

Re: Build fail Could not find a part of path ErrorID=10086
Deleting the Output folder didn't work for me. I did discover that if I do the following, the build is OK: In the PDF target, go to the Advanced tab and select Glossary proxy. Whenever the Glossary proxy is selected, the build is successful. Whenever it is de-selected, the build fails with the path ...

Re: Build fail Could not find a part of path ErrorID=10086
This happens to me consistently for one particular project. It has very few topics and both target and TOC are very simple. The output is PDF. (If I change the output to HTML, the build is fine. I get this error only for the PDF output.) Also, if the project is on the local C: drive, the build is OK...

Re: Set Flare V10 Home button in HTML5 Responsive Output?
Using the "Home" button to return to the "home" of the navigation pane doesn't make much sense. First, if that's the intent, then the button should be called "Collapse all in navigation pane" or something like that. Second, after all have been collapsed, the Home button...

Re: How to invoke WebHelp as popup?
I have no luck in specifying the size and position of the window containing the HTML5 help topic. I used CSH to invoke the help, but each time the help is launched, the window would be displayed in one place for a split second, and then "jump" to the ultimate position. This jumping is irri...

Export based on conditions causes files to disappear
I have a project that needs to go to a localization agency. I don't want to include the text that should be conditionalized out in the output, because the agency charges by word count. So before I send, I export the project by conditions. It seems that the not-to-be-translated text is indeed exclude...

Localized text not arranged nicely in narrow table columns
I have "autofit to contents" tables with a narrow first column and wide second column. For example, the first column is for terms and the second column is for descriptions. Flare is trying to save space and wrap lines in the first columns such that there are very few words per line (someti...

How to make HTML5 help available for various languages
I followed the Flare documentation to create HTML5 help for our application without any problems. Our application will be localized so that when the user selects a target language, the GUI changes to that language. When the Help icon is clicked, the help topic should be expected to launch in that la...

Displaying HTML5 help in new tab instead of new window
I don't think Flare lets you configure the Skin or anything so that the HTML5 output is displayed in a tab inside the window from which Help is called. Help is always displayed in a new browser. But does anyone have a way to get around it? Also, if Help is always in another browser, is it possible t...

Re: Translator's involvement with Flare
Yes, I think if the translator is willing to handle Flare projects, it would be preferable to hand him/her the Flare project. But if the translator has never heard of Flare, or has heard of Flare but is unwilling to handle yet another software, I'd like to know whether there are other options that a...

Re: Translator's involvement with Flare
I should add another approach to my original post: (3) Submit the Content folder to the translator. The translator then translates the XML files in the folder and then return it. Duplicate the original project and then replace the English Content folder with the returned Content folder (with the tra...

translating English index into Japanese
I'd like to have an index of our PDF document translated from English to Japanese. The original document was written in Flare and then packaged by Lingo. Our translator uses Trados to translate. They said that in order for index terms to be ordered phonetically in Japanese, each index term has to be...

Translator's involvement with Flare
There was a thread about how people had Flare projects translated but it was kind of old. With the release of Flare v. 9 and Lingo v. 7, I'd like to restart this discussion. Specifically, I'd like to know which approach most Flare users use for localizing their projects: (1) Use Lingo before zipping...

Re: Tagging UI elements
Thank you Nita. I thought of span as well but wouldn't Lingo strip all the xml tagging info before packaging the Flare files for the translator? If so, the translator would only see the text that needs translation, not the tag names, right?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Tagging UI elements
We might use Lingo to package the Flare files so that translators can use their own software to translate the files. In order for them to translate screen messages, window names, and any UI elements in the same way as they translate the actual UI, they request that these elements in the Flare files ...

Re: Different heading levels for same heading in print and help?
Thanks for the replies! I'll try the TOC depth method.
The other method won't work for the reason stated. (I.e., changing the h2 format in the online output to match the h1 format in the print output won't work because in the online output I also have h2 headings that shouldn't be tampered with.)

Different heading levels for same heading in print and help?
I have a print version of a manual that contains topics that can be used as online help, and some of the topics begin with a h2 heading. When these topics show up as online help, the first heading is a h2 heading. How do I make them a h1 heading? The only way I can think of is to write the heading t...

But if I use breadcrumbs, the current topic title will show up as the last "crumb." For example, if my current topic is Topic B, the following will be displayed:
You are here: Topic A > Topic B
But I want to display:
Parent topic: Topic A
You are here: Topic A > Topic B
But I want to display:
