Flare bug with generated Contents pane links

I'm seeing a bug with the auto-generated contents links, but I'm not entirely sure how to reproduce it (or fix it, for that matter) so I'm wondering if anyone else has run into it. What I'm seeing with my HTML is that top-level links in the Contents window have this format: # /Content/ bunch_of_othe...

Re: HTML5 does not display TOC, Index, or topic content

You mean that when you build the HTML and access it locally (browsing it on your filesystem), everything is fine, but when you get it to your web server, there are issues?

If that's the case, it sounds like the problem is with your web server, not with Flare or your project.

Re: Flare and Subversion Check In Problems

I was having tons of these messages (using 10.2) but I eventually figured out what the problem was. There was a directory that had been created by some Flare SVN update (it was content created by another editor which was created, then either deleted or moved) which had entered some kind of nebulous ...

Re: Linking External Word Doc: link not Working

A few questions! How are you linking to the word document? When you click on the link and see 'edit hyperlink' does it say 'External File' in the 'Link To' dropdown menu? That would be my guess as to what it should say, but I'm not sure. What type of output are you building, anyway? PDF? HTML5? In e...

I also think this would be a useful feature, and encourage you to submit it as a feature request.

Here's the page where you can do that:

Re: HTML 5 output - "expand all" avoid double klick

I'd say this is definitely a bug. I can tell you exactly what's happening, though! The 'Expand All' button has a parameter called 'data-current-state' which is either "1" when the button is used to expand all of the content in the current topic and "2" when the button is used to ...

Re: HTML5 Inactive Nav Tab Not Changing Font Color

Oh, geez! I didn't even notice the web/tablet/mobile mediums in the skin editor. Thanks for the heads-up. Are those new in v10? I guess I need to read up on those. It's worth noting that when I edited that particular setting (inactive tab font) in the web medium, it was already changed in the tablet...

Re: How to add an icon to a the Start of a TOC entry ?

I don't think Flare has a way to set image or icon dimensions in the skin, which I must say strikes me as odd, but I looked really hard for a way to resize a logo used in an HTML5 skin, and couldn't find a way to do it. I think you just have to resize the images outside of Flare and use the version ...

Re: HTML5 Inactive Nav Tab Not Changing Font Color

I don't think skins have mediums. I just tried to fiddle around with the font color on the inactive nav tag on a skin of my own, and it worked by just changing the option you have in your screenshot. Not sure why it wouldn't for you. Are you unable to change the color only? Or does changing other fo...

Re: Span style not displaying

There's a chance that the span is only defined in either the Default or the Non-Print medium, and your outputs are using different mediums. Can you check to see if the span you defined shows up in the stylesheet in both of those mediums?

Re: Maximum Search Results

This is an interesting answer! I wouldn't have thought to try this. Does the MadCapDefault.js file get overwritten each time you build the output? I would have thought it would, and that would erase this change - or at least require the edit to be a post-generation step, every time you make the HTML...

Re: Search not working...

I've actually got two questions for you. The first is when you look at the 'advanced' tab for the Landing page target, do you have the 'Exclude content not linked directly or indirectly from the target' option checked? I think if that option isn't selected, search should look through all of the cont...

Re: Two questions about the logo in HTML5 skin

Hey Dave! Thanks for the response. The only real benefit to being able to the size of the logo image in the header is that it allows me to use one file for more of the places that the logo appears. Needing to have a differently-sized file for the header is just another file that needs to be replaced...

Two questions about the logo in HTML5 skin

I'm trying to see if there's a way to resize the logo that's used in the header of the HTML5 skin. As far as I can tell, there's no way to specify dimensions for the logo in the skin itself. Obviously, I can work around this by saving a new version of the logo I want to use with the dimensions that ...

Re: Single destination for multiple HTML5 targets

That's true, until we need to change something about the destination (server name or authenticated user password) and then it means that we'll need to update every single destination file.

Ah well, thank you. I'm going to submit an RFE!

Re: Can you make the HTML5 ToC look like PDF Bookmarks listing?

Ah, excellent. Yes, that's exactly the sort of option that I was looking for. Thank you, that is vastly preferable to the other solutions I was considering!

I'm in agreement with you about being a bit puzzled at how differently ToCs behave for different outputs, though.

Thanks again.

Single destination for multiple HTML5 targets

I'm working on publishing HTML5 help to a remote webserver, and the way that it's working is not what I expected. I was hoping to be able to use a single destination (*.fldes) for all of the HTML5 targets I'm creating. Since there's only one server we're publishing to, it made sense to me to want to...

Can you make the HTML5 ToC look like PDF Bookmarks listing?

Hello! I'm trying to wrap my head around the way that certain differences in output types work in Flare, and to see if there are any ways to work around these differences that I don't know about. I'm going to try to be clear about my questions, but they all revolve around ToCs, which are a fairly lo...

How do you handle remote publishing and auth?

Hi there! I'm working on getting my company's docs department set up to make use of Flare's publishing capability. At the moment, we use some very kludgy methods to get our new documents posted to the server where others can access them, and it will be nice to smooth out that process to use Flare's ...

Re: Difference between snippets and variables

Oh, that's interesting - I think the thing I didn't understand was that user-defined variables were changed at the level of the target, not the project. That actually makes sense! I'll see if I can play around with that, and it sounds like I can do what I want with that.

Difference between snippets and variables

I'm trying to understand the functional difference between using variables and snippets for small chunks of content. This is kind of a vague question, as I'm just trying to understand the Flare philosophy behind two methods I see to accomplish the same goal. Let's say I have product whose name I exp...

Hi there! I'm trying to accomplish something that I don't think is possible, but I want to check and make sure before I file an RFE. Merging projects

Here's a quick question. I had two projects that were starting to have a fair bit of content overlap, as they grew. I decided I need to merge them into one project. I've done that, and it works fine. I'm going to remove the now-unused old project, but before I do, I have a question. When I did the i...

Default SVN Log Messages

Hello there! I'm beginning to use Flare with SVN, and I was wondering about some of the default log messages. It seems like creating and deleting files doesn't allow you to use a custom log message, as you can do when you edit an existing file. As far as I can tell, the log message that gets sent to...
