Migration Flare -> Flare

Hiya everyone! Calling the awesome Flare hive-mind for help - if you have migrated legacy documents from Flare to Flare or initiated global project linking (GPL) I'd love to hear from you! Here is my attempt to summarize the project situation as concisely as possible: - >50 products (SW and HW, all ...

xrefs to topics not included in PDF output not translated

We use PDF outputs for our internal review process, which is why we have a lot of partial PDF builds where many topics that would be in the general web-based publication are not included. This works fine in our primary language (German), but causes some problems with the secondary language (English)...

Re: Project works great, until it hits the server

Hi @larryCarey, @DaveLee and @chocciemuffin Thanks for this thread, we appear to have similar problems. In our case, we host multiple versions of our web output on the same server and while older versions are accessible in browsers and can be viewed fine, newly uploaded versions can't. The new outpu...

Re: Release notes for 2019 r2?

Thanks for the info, ChoccieMuffin, much appreciated. Since we are also in the software business I can relate and empathize as well, but this version vs update thingy does mean my evaluation of r2 will have to happen in even smaller pockets of time than usually. Luckily I can install/deinstall freel...

Re: Release notes for 2019 r2?

Someone mentioned above that there are quite a number of issues being reported for this new version. I'm wondering where I could see that? I didn't see anything here in the forums? Is there a thread I have missed? I'm asking because I've just done a test build with r2 and noticed that all converted ...

Glossary terms not displayed for synonyms

Hi Madcaps, We are evaluating the synonyms feature and have set up some sample synonyms (directional and groups). I ran a test build (HTML 5 output) and searched for one of the 'words' that now have a defined directional 'synonym', expecting the glossary term of that 'synonym' to be the first search...

99% matches

We have had a terminology change and I have used TM search and replace to update our TM successfully. The segments in our TM now contain the correct (new) terminology and the Flare project does, too. However, when I update the Lingo project and translate everything based on that TM we get a lot of 9...

Re: Flare 2019

As @arthurdent stated above, the bookmark bug affected only bookmarks in tables (and probably only those in tripane outputs).

The bug has been fixed with build 7081 which means I'll start using Flare 2019 now :D

Re: Flare 2019

MadCap support gurus just confirmed my suspicion: bookmarks don't work for tripane outputs in Flare 19 anymore. Now you have to click twice before being taken to the target location. We have a bug number and are left to figure out what to do now. Since we do not have the time to refactor our bookmar...

Re: Flare 2019

Does anyone else still use bookmarks with <a name=...> tags and finds these are no longer working in Flare 2019? We have a few reference tables with lots of topic-internal links to anchors/bookmarks and none of them work in my HTML5 tripane test build (or rather, they work only in IE and not in Chro...

Re: Flare 2019

Just like Adobe, Madcap adds a few little features to justify a new version number, while not attending to long-standing fundamental bugs. Perhaps Madcap should spend less on marketing and fancy international conferences, and more on competent developers willing to get their hands dirty. Totally ag...

Yes, thank you for your help with this complicated issue, that's what we ended up doing. There is an existing feature request that we are getting behind and hopefully that will - in time - provide a more elegant solution.

Re: Unlinked TOC books only in generated TOC if on lvl 1

Well, that's a bug- did MadCap acknowledge it's a bug? If it inserts headings for unlinked TOC items, it shouldn't just insert h2, h3, h4, etc - it should insert headings using the styles that's you've set using mc-heading-level . No, they did not acknowledge that as a bug. And it does insert headi...

Re: Unlinked TOC books only in generated TOC if on lvl 1

Okay, the mighty MadCap Support Wizards have confirmed that we cannot do what we want to do - at least not without manually applying style classes to all heading levels we want to exclude from our print generated TOC. I'll try to summarize it best I can, for the benefit of anyone who stumbles across...

individual bullet items missing in output

I've just observed a weird thing in our web output: When opening a topic page that contains a bullet list with 3 bullets, #1 loads properly, #3 loads properly, but #2 doesn't. It's empty. Missing. The text is there but no list number. I thought there must be an error in the topic and went looking bu...

Unlinked TOC books only in generated TOC if on lvl 1

Further to my issue from last week I now have a new problem: My automatically generated TOC (print/PDF) only shows unlinked books if they are on TOC level 1. Unlinked TOC books on levels 2 or deeper will appear in the pdf body itself as empty pages but not in the generated TOC. If I link these TOC b...

Re: Removing unwanted sub-headings from PDF contents

Now I just have to find out why the unlinked books do appear in my PDF main body but not in my PDF Contents or in my PDF Bookmarks Panel. What I have already found out: The problem does not apply to all books. Unlinked books on TOC level 1 _do_ appear in the generated TOC. Only unlinked books on le...

Re: Removing unwanted sub-headings from PDF contents

Hi Dave Lee and thank you, that works well too and has the added benefit of not having to apply new styles to all H1 in the project. However, we have some unlinked TOC books. Using your solution these books are now included in the output itself (as otherwise empty pages with just the book name on th...

Hi ChoccieMuffin, yes, that's what I ended up doing just now. Seems to work now, am just clearing up a few cases where manual work is needed. Thanks for the tip...

Removing unwanted sub-headings from PDF contents

Hi there! I have been working with Flare for a while now and building our HTML5 (tri-pane) web target works like a charm. We have been kind of single-sourcing in that I also build a PDF target with every major release from the same project, using the same TOC. However, that PDF has been for internal...

Since the sorting scripts did not work for me I asked our tech guys and we found a solution. I am posting it here just in case anyone else runs into the same problem. The problem was not with the integration of the scripts, that part worked fine. However, we use Flare variables in our table headings...

I just tried that and it did not change the behavior in my output. :(
