Re: Ghost Script
Just a couple of notes on this in case folks stumble across it: * Newer versions of Flare's system requirements MENTION Ghostscript but DON'T LINK TO the downloads page as they did in the version Dave sited in this thread. Go here: https://ghostscript.com/download/gsdnld.html. You likely can use the...

Re: Passing login credentials in a link
I'm also looking for an answer to this question. Their private sites functionality has been unusable in its current state at what is now the third company I have been at that would like to use it. Have you put a ticket in about this? My testing (albeit perfunctory) and their docs indicate it's not p...

Re: Unchecked "Generate resized... images", but it still doe
I ran into this today, and actually found that in my specific case, the images weren't keeping their aspect ratio for some reason. I did find a workaround. I moved the CSS setting that was resizing my image into a separate stylesheet (which I already have for other Flare bugs wherein my CSS makes th...

Re: Turning the menu proxy into an accordion menu
So now that Flare 2018 supports the side navigation accordion menu, is anyone who implemented this skinless solution going to switch back to Flare's native version? I wonder if it's worth the trouble, and whether it means another round of fiddling with the CSS to get everything working right. I nev...

Re: Turning the menu proxy into an accordion menu
Which guide did you follow? I tried using straygoat's guide to the T and I was using it in an internal environment that unfortunately had an out of date browser. When I tested it in production, it stopped working. Whatever I had working was based on this: https://forums.madcapsoftware.com/viewtopic...

They did enter a feature request for me. The number is 89823. You can reference that if you contact support.

Re: Box Shadow / Drop Shadow in PDF
The box shadow is not supported for PDF output. I put a ticket in just over three years ago and still haven't heard back. They gave me a case number (61877) but I am not sure if they ever turned it into an official feature request or not. I was new to their support system back then and didn't even k...

Re: Turning the menu proxy into an accordion menu
Dave, this is fantastic! Thanks for posting it. I got the main part working and now just need to get in and fix the styles to match ours. Everyone, I've entered an enhancement request with MadCap to add a horizontal menu proxy (#83849). If you think this would benefit you, please let them know to ad...

I have not, but that might be a feasible workaround for us.2bemused wrote:Hi Dan,
Have you tried inserting a link to the Word doc inside a topic, and use the topic file in the TOC instead?

Re: External Resources - Editing Word Docs vs. Table of Cont
Why would you want to include Word docs in your Flare project? Why not import them into Flare? I was setting up something like this, http://techwritingengineer.com/setting-up-a-kanban-board-in-madcap-flare/ , and I wanted to include Word files in the workflow. We have some content that requires Wor...

Re: External Resources - Editing Word Docs vs. Table of Cont
As far as I can tell, you can put any file in your TOC as long as it exists inside the Content folder of your project. You're limited, I am sure, by what each output type can support. For example, a PDF target is not going to include any content or attachments from Word or snippet files in a TOC, bu...

Re: External Resources - Editing Word Docs vs. Table of Cont
Rather than using external resources, would it be worth your while using global project linking? I haven't used external resources but I find GPL works REALLY well for what I need, and imports both Flare and Word files very well. I'm using GPL for a lot of other stuff, but after some more testing y...

External Resources - Editing Word Docs vs. Table of Contents
Hello Friends! I am using Flare 12. I have added a folder to my external resources and created a mapping for the folder so its contents are copied to my content explorer somewhere. I created a TOC file that includes some of the files, including some word docs. When I have a word document in there, a...

Re: Including Fonts in Online Help Builds
Dave, I actually started this whole thing because of that article you posted; however, as soon as I added in the second font sources, my output stopped displaying my preferred font. I think it might have something to do with how our woff fonts are named without hyphens and the ttf files are all name...

Re: Including Fonts in Online Help Builds
Nita, I am glad you mentioned the distribution issue. I started a conversation with someone from our branding team to get that sorted out. It will be a shame if we cannot get something worked out because the Knowledge font looks much nicer than our Arial default. Dave, I tested your link and it work...

Re: Including Fonts in Online Help Builds
Dan, will all of your users have the TR propiertary font installed on their machines? I suspect not, unless your online output is being served up internally. For the TR Help systems I've done (as an independent contractor to TR) for products sold to the public, I've used Arial, as specified in the ...

Including Fonts in Online Help Builds
Hi! I am declaring some proprietary font families in my stylesheet for online help. Seems to work just fine when including the fonts in the build and setting their path in the stylesheet, like so: @font-face { font-family: 'KnowledgeRegular'; src: url('../Fonts/KnowledgeRegular.woff') format('woff')...

Nita, That's the sort of thing I was planning to play around with today. So I am guessing you have saved me at least a few hours. Thanks for sharing! Your comment about the font weight makes sense. That's part of what looks wrong with my first attempt: Flare seems to be interpolating the font into b...

Re: font problem
I just had something similar happen (Flare 11). My company has a proprietary open type font. In the stylesheet, I set the font like so: font-family: Knowledge, Arial, Verdana, sans-serif; This worked fine for web, but in pdf, the font defaulted to a Helvetica and the kerning was all sorts of awful. ...

Printing topics from HTML5 in Firefox

Re: Want a heading in PDF bookmarks but not in TOC proxy
I realize this is an old topic, but maybe this will help somebody... We do this using a workaround that came from Flare support: The entry in question for us is the Table of Contents heading. We use an H1 with a class: <h1 class="TOCHeading">Table of Contents</h1> In the stylesheet, we set...

Re: no page break before first bullet item
I think you would need to put the page-break-before: avoid; inside a first child selector. Something like this: li:first-child { page-break-before: avoid; } But I don't know if Flare PDF output supports that fancy of a selector. Let me know how that goes if you try it. I just put a ticket in today a...
