Re: "Failed to convert to PDF Font:"

I encountered this error today after upgrading to Windows 10. My exact message was: Failed to convert to PDF font: MS Gothic. Using default font: Helvetica. I'm not using the MS Gothic or Helvetica fonts anywhere in my project, so it was a little confusing. I fixed it by downloading and installing M...

Re: Variables at Topic level

Ah I see, thanks Jason, definitely another possibility. I had a quick experiment with PDF stitching, and in the limited trial, it may be able to provide what I need. I also posed this question to Madcap Tech Support, and they suggested I use a h6.variable (as Bedford advised). Thanks for the help gu...

Re: Variables at Topic level

Hey BedfordWriter, Nice suggestion, we are considering adding the version number via alternative methods (rather than in the footer), and as you've suggested, using a non-variable to write it. Out initial output is Print. Thats why it's such a pain in the bottom. Eventually we will provide online ou...

Re: Variables at Topic level

Hey Jason, thanks for the reply. I'd considered that, however it wouldn't work in my case because the page layout has to be associated with multiple topics, and each one of the topics should have a different version number. To clarify, I'm trying to build a help system whereby all topics are "f...

Variables at Topic level

Hello, Scenario : PDF Output. Lets say I have 10 topics all contained in one TOC. I use the same page layout for each of the 10 topics, and the footer of the page layout has a VersionVariable - which shows the version number of the document. Problem: Each of the 10 topics requires its own unique ver...

Thanks Lydia, I had suspected it was something to do with the bleed, as I had been playing around with the bleed settings in the Page Layout.

White Space either side of header decoration when printing

Hey all, I'm hoping someone will be able to help. I have a decoration frame spanning the full-width of a page layout. When I generate the PDF, the header looks great, full-width. However, when I choose to print the PDF, there are very small white spaces either side of the header (decoration frame). ...

Re: Release Notes comments/questions

I second sdcinvan's sentiments regarding the formatting of release notes. They are extremely difficult to read. I want to be able to see a list of new features, and a list of fixes.

Hey Guys, I wonder if anyone could help. I'm trying to implement a bullet style like so: 1 1.1 1.2 1.3 2 2.1 2.2 2.3 My stylesheet looks like this: ol.NumberSubList { list-style-type: decimal; } ol.NumberSubList > li > ol { list-style-type: decimal; } ol.NumberSubList > li > ol > li::marker { conten...

GIT, Flare, and Renaming Files/Folders

Hey Guys, We use GIT for source control. We have quite a large number of documents in our project that are undergoing a complete overhaul, which includes renaming files/folders etc. We recently encountered a problem where we lost changes to one of our branched manuals. The manual had been renamed on...

Re: Master Stylesheets

Dave, thanks. My entire time with Flare up until this point has been PDF printed output only, so I'm entering uncharted territory, but you have helped clarify it. I just have one question if I may. You said; (Note that the mediums don't necessarily have to be in the same stylesheet; my standard proj...

Re: Master Stylesheets

Hey ChoccieMuffin, I see your point. Hey Paul, I'll be honest, I'm far too inexperienced to be able to provide the pros and cons of working with two stylesheets over one stylesheet, maybe someone could outline those for me? The only reason we have two stylesheets is because the author who managed th...

Re: Master Stylesheets

Thank you Marjorie, that's very helpful. Do you think that Flare SHOULD display different stylesheets depending on whether you have the Layout (web) or Layout (print) selected? For those of us who use two stylesheets (one for Print and one for HTML5), it would be handy to be able to associate the re...

Master Stylesheets

Hey All, I've been working with Flare for about 4-5 months now, solely in print outputs (PDF). I am now at the stage in my project where I am looking at producing HTML5 output. However, I'm a little confused by Flare's use of stylesheets on each target. I want to use two different stylesheets, one f...

Environmental Variables in Publishing Destinations

Hey Guys,

Is it possible to use environmental variables in the Destination directory field?

For example, I have created an environment variable called %flare% and added this to the Directory field of the Destination.

But when publishing, I get the error;

Re: TOC Proxy is using heading 1

Hey Rene, Thanks for your reply. I'm not actually using a Topic with a TOC Proxy inserted (as per this webhelp article): http://webhelp.madcapsoftware.com/flare5/Content/Output/Printed_Output/More_About_Printed_Output/Creating_a_Topic_for_a_Print_TOC.htm I'm just ticking the Generate TOC Proxy on th...

TOC Proxy is using heading 1

Hey Guys, A very newbie question on the way. I use the Generate TOC Proxy option on my Print Targets. However, my Table of Contents heading is being numbered as 1 and my first h1 topic ( Overview ) is being numbered 2 . I do not want this behaviour. Instead, I want no number to appear next to Table ...

Re: The specified path file or both are too long

Okay thanks RamonS. I still think Madcap can do far more than they are doing. Flare is supposed to be a versatile content management system, and I'm already having to think about making structural sacrifices. I just successfully built the Target I was having problems with by; 1. Shortening my Target...

Re: Project Help for a Newbie!!

Thanks for your reply Dave!

A question: For every TOC, is a separate document output? For example: if I had 100 TOCs but one PDF target, would it output 100 separate PDFs?
Does it have the same effect as having 100 targets?
