Re: H1 margin-top beginning a page

I assume your output is PDF. If that is the case, you can collapse the top margin with a setting in the PDF target on the Advanced tab.

Re: Mad Quality Plugin II

Mattias Sander, who invented that Flare plugin (among several), has his own channel (#improvementsoft-plugins) in the Flare Slack community. My sense is that he regularly monitors that channel, so it’d be a good place to post your question. If you’re not a member of the Flare Slack community, send m...

Hi Dipo! This would be in collaboration with Flare Guru Nita Beck who wrote the original article. That isn't quite right. As I wrote in the Slack community, my role will be to help find folks to collaborate on the refresh / replacement of my original article. I haven't kept my Mac VM up to date in a...

Re: FontAwesome in PDF and HTML5 output

I'm running into the same issue. FontAwesome was easy to set up and works as expected in HTML5, but nothing I do can get it to work in PDF. I tried installing the older v4.7 of FontAwesome and that didn't work with Flare 2023r2, but even if it did I need to use the latest version. Be sure to instal...

Can someone verify if this is no longer the case? Central began supporting branching several years ago. I never used it myself so can’t add anything based on experience with it. Check out these auto-number formats: https://help.madcapsoftware.com/flare20 ... amples.htm

Also, although you can name a counter however you please, the "H" name is typically meant to represent headings, not figures.

Re: Printed Autonumbering Different from Flare's

You haven't specified the scope of the counter. You've given it a name ("H") but no scope. What happens if you specify "GH" (meaning, a global counter, as in, have numbers increment through the entire target) or "CH" (meaning a chapter counter, as in, reset at the start...

Re: PDF not using my page layout

I notice that you don't have either a chapter break or page break set. What happens if you set either, and be sure to specify which specific page in the page layout file you want to use for that break? (Retirement so far is fun, although I admit to feeling a bit unmoored some days. Still sorting out...

Re: PDF not using my page layout

Examine the TOC(s) you use for that PDF. Look at the properties of those TOC items on which there is applied a chapter break or a page break. In the Properties window for one of those TOC items, how is the Page Layout field set on the Printed Output tab? Is it set to "(default)", in which ...

Re: No Alias Editor?

And a little more context... If you were given the header (.h) file by your s/w devs, then you will need to create a new alais file, which will open in the Alias Editor. In the editor's toolbar, there is a drop-down field with which you can select the .h file. Flare will read in the header file, and...

Re: No Alias Editor?

Welcome to the forums! ;) Many of us, myself included, started out as self-taught Flare users. You are in good company. The .h file is not the alias file. It's a header file. A Flare alias file has the file extension .flali (although you might not see the extension inside the Flare project itself. S...

Re: Numbering Weirdness - Losing Autonumbering

The important matter is how Flare calculates the numbers when it builds output, I assume a PDF. In the XML Editor and text editor, auto-numbers will always show their starting numbers in each level counter, e.g., Chapter 1, 1.1, or 1.1.1. I assume that the 1.1.2 you are seeing in a topic in the XML ...

In the Target Editor on the Advanced tab, for the Content to include field, select Content linked directly from the TOC . That should do it. Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean by the conditions popup... I find it pretty easy to remove conditions from text in the XML Editor, as long as I have elected to show span structure bars at the top of the XML Editor panel, not just at the tag structure bars at the left side. Re: Display chapter numbers in TOC editor

To the best of my knowledge, there is not. I assume that you're using auto-numbering for your h1 headings. Flare has been programmed to calculate auto-numbers at build time, so Flare wouldn't "know" what to show in a TOC file, just as it doesn't show calculated auto-numbers in the XML Edit...

Regarding the Slack pricing plan, yes, it's a per-user plan, although I'm pretty sure it's a per *active* user plan. I'm not sure how many active users there are, but we'd be talking about thousands of dollars per month in any case. And as one of the founders of the Slack community, there is no frea...

Re: Let's not lose our corporate memory!

When we had access to our entire history when Slack dangled a trial of a paid plan early in 2023, a few volunteers (particulary Mattias Sanders) exported our entire history at the time and started to turn it into a Flare project. MadCap also set us up with a complimentary Central subscription so tha...

I have no experience with this myself so can't comment on how good the results might be, but Flare 2023 (not sure of earlier versions) can import Markdown directly. See https://help.madcapsoftware.com/flare20 ... rkdown.htm
