Re: Exclude content not linked directly ... and Alias.xml?
You won't believe it! The problem seems to be the order of Flares building process. First it seems to search for all linked files inside the toc, topics, and snippets - in brief: only in "content related files" ! These linked files will be copied to the temporary folder. And when the outpu...

Re: Exclude content not linked directly ... and Alias.xml?
Thanks for your reply. This are no good news. Anytime i got a workaround for a problem with flare, a new one pops up wich is more difficult to solve :( I managed to convert some projects to Flare, but sometimes i wish i could go back since the workflow with flare seems to be more awful the more i wo...

Re: Exclude content not linked; Bug? Feature Request?
Instead of applying the condition only to the href/xref you could apply that condition also to the target file.

Exclude content not linked directly ... and Alias.xml?
Hi forums, I recently noticed, if you select the option "Exclude content not linked directly or indirectly from the target" in our target output, Flare excludes topics that are only linked by the alias file. This makes the whole option pointless to me. Am i missing something here? Or is th...

Re: Alter Hyphenation-Rules
Well, thanks for your reply. I was already thinking of filing a bug or a feature request but i wonder if i'm the only one that cares about proper hyphenation. If so, a report wouldn't have any success, wouldn't it? (As you know, the more people are interested in this, the higher the likelihood that ...

What the ... ?!?
Sorry, to bump this topic, but now it's getting worse! I created a script that iterates over all topics, extracts any word from the topic, applies the hyphenation rules and creates a custom Flare hyphenation xml file with the rules in a proper order. So hyphenation makes really sense (since hyphenat...

Alter Hyphenation-Rules
Hi forums, sorry for the vague title. Didn't find a better one. I also had no idea where to post this. So i start with "General". My question is about hyphenation and how Flare is processing it. As far as i understand Flare takes the hyphenation rules and maps it to the words. So if you ha...

Re: How to use <figure> and <figcaption>?
Not sure about Flare 10 (still using Flare 9). But in Flare 9 you need to create a stylesheet class for these tags to be able to use them in the XML editor. Example: figure.fig { display:block; } figcaption.fig { display:block; mc-auto-number-format: "CF:Figure\00A0{chapnum}.{n+}:\00A0"; }...

Re: Apply different Stylesheets to left/right pages?
Thanks for your reply, Lydia. you would need to know up front whether the margin text ends up on a left or right side and then apply the left or right margin style Since this is not possible i was wondering if i can link certain styles only to left or right pages. E.g. if Flare would provide a varia...

Apply different Stylesheets to left/right pages?
Hello there. I have a PDF target output that uses left and right pages (also first, first left, first right, title, and empty left). This works like a charm. I wonder if i can apply styles to an element depending on if it is on a left or a right page. Example: When editing content i only can apply o...

Re: Cross references and TOC mc-heading-level
It seems i was wrong.
Just read this workaround for auto-cross-reference-able image captions: http://forums.madcapsoftware.com/viewto ... 75#p105275
I think you can also use it for your purposes.

Re: Automatic Bookmarks as Part of the Style
Finally i have a workaround for this feature! 8) MadCap Flare uses the stylesheets of the primary target output when editing content. So just use a special target output as the primary one wich is only used for editing - never for publishing. For example call it "Only for Editing!". In thi...

Re: Entry in PDF Bookmark but not in TOC?
Well, not sure if this is what you want, but it is possible to setup your pdf target output to include bookmarks that are not in the target outputs toc. Just go to your PDF target output and select "PDF Options". There you will find a option to include bookmarks that are not in the toc. Bu...

Re: Cross references and TOC mc-heading-level
What you're trying to do is not possible. You cannot have autobookmarks on elements with a heading level greater that 1 but hide those elements from the toc. That is at least my experience so far. I tried this for a while an gave up. As soon something has a heading level 1+ it will show up in the to...

Re: Automatic Bookmarks as Part of the Style
If it were me, I'd write a VBS file to add the bookmarks [...] 1. Search the XML files in a folder for the syntax "Resources\Images\". 2. Copy between the last slash and period marking the file extension. 3. Paste "<a name="bookmark"></a> (where "bookmark" is the ...

I recently ran into the same problem. My project is bind to a source control. Since i also work on different stuff in SVN (not just Flare) and to keep track of the location of local working copies compared to their location in the repository i keep the folder structure of the SVN as is on my local m...

In short: Contents that are ONLY for "Manual 1" and NOT for "Manual 2" need a condition that is excluded by the target output of "Manual 2". And vise versa contents that are ONLY for "Manual 2" and NOT for "Manual 1" need a condition that is excluded...

Re: Automatic Bookmarks as Part of the Style
The problem with adding the bookmark to the graphic, rather than to the figure, is that you lose the ability to refer to a figure number in a cross reference - is that right? Ah, yes, you're right. I did not think of that. In this case you indeed need to place the bookmark inside the paragraph that...

Re: Automatic Bookmarks as Part of the Style
I don't know if there is a more convenient way than inserting bookmarks manually. I use a snippet that contains all elements i need for images. This includes a dummy image, a dummy caption and a dummy bookmark. Whenever i insert an image i insert that snippet, convert it into text and change the ima...

Re: single-sourcing images for PDF and WebHelp
Here is what i do: Most times I'm dealing with Screenhots. If the Screenshots are printed as is they are indeed too big. So you need to make them smaller in print output. But don't do this in Flare when editing the content because as you noticed this affects all outputs. Basically i use two kind of ...

Re: how to turn off preview of stylesheets in style select menu?
Interesting. Didn't know about mc-hidden/mc-disabled porperty. This helps at least to hide stuff that is for page layout only and not for the content. Nice. Just as a hint: be careful when using mc-disabled . It will completely disable certain functions that are related to that style element. For ex...

Re: single-sourcing images for PDF and WebHelp
Hello there. I'm just trying to understand the concept of Capture. In Capture I have created a profile of settings. (e.g. set DPI to 300dpi on print media) I have a Flare project with hundreds of screenshots and icons. I want to apply my Capture profile to all these images. So i created a batch job ...
