Pulse using windows auth when SQL auth is specified in setup
I'm running into an issue where eventhough we're providing Pulse SQL authentication for the SQL database, it keeps trying to use the Windows credentials for the user attempting to configure it instead. This is causing Pulse to say it cannot read or write to the SQL database. Has anyone else run into...

background image size
Is there an ideal background image size for pagelayouts? Flare keeps resizing the background images in our layouts and I can't find a way to adjust their size back to what we need them to be.

Re: TOC and div issues in pdf output
That sounds like what I was doing wrong on my pagelayout, I also didn't have the ToC proxy topic linked into the ToC file (embarrassingly easy fixes). As for the background images not showing up, I discovered this was because my callout divs were set as display: inline-block; but switching them to b...

TOC and div issues in pdf output
I'm running into two issues with my pdf output: 1. The TOC isn't generating in the output, even though I have a topic with a ToC proxy as the third page in the ToC file. 2. The background image for my callout divs is not showing up in the pdf output, does show up in HTML5. Here's what styling I have...

Re: Flare HTML5 with SharePoint 2013?
I have not run into this issue, but I believe that is because our SharePoint administrators removed that restriction on our servers. I'm afraid I can't help beyond saying that. I will say that without that restriction, you can publish HTML5 output to a doc library and point links to the Default.htm ...

Re: Flare HTML5 with SharePoint 2013?
You absolutely must be granted access to the files in SharePoint to do anything with them in Flare through the SharePoint Explorer. For example, if you have read only access, you'll only be able to copy content from the SharePoint files &;or use them as an import source and will not be able to p...

Re: Is these a size limitation on relationship tables?
I have no idea what I did. Wound up starting over and rebuilding both the relationship table and masterpage and somehow everything now works... which makes me nervous because I don't know what I did wrong the first time.

Is these a size limitation on relationship tables?
I'm trying to use a relationship table in a project to produce a "related links" section in some topics (not to be confused with the Related Links function). However, when I include the relationship table in my frameless skin target for publishing, the table does not appear. More over, the...

Re: Flare HTML5 with SharePoint 2013?
I use this same approach for our team. I learned something from a fellow attendee at MadWorld: If you connect Flare to your SharePoint (using Flare's SharePoint Explorer) you can also have Flare publish directly to your SharePoint. To do this, create a destination for the SharePoint folder, set the ...

Re: Integrating Flare with API Manager?
I mean an actual API manager that could be used to provide code samples as well as actual code to developers. The only example I think remember a name for right off is Akana's API management platform (https://www.akana.com/solutions/api-management).

Integrating Flare with API Manager?
Has anyone tried integrating Flare with an application program interface (API) manager?
We're looking to try just that to handle any content that needs to go out to support our API. Looking to see if it's been tried before, what worked and what didn't, etc.
Thanks!

Using Jazz RTC for source control?
I've talked to a couple of folks who've tried using Jazz Rational Team Concert (RTC) for project source control with Flare, but looking to hear from more.
Has RTC worked as Flare project source control for you?
What issues did you encounter?
Thanks!

Using endnotes instead of footnotes for glossary terms
Is there a way to have glossary term popups turned into endnotes instead of footnotes in pdf output? The distribution of our glossary term pop ups (appearing on first mention only) is causing almost half of some pages to filled with footnotes. I'd like to change them to endnotes instead. This would ...

Re: The First Instance Conundrum
One followup: I recommend keeping your abbreviations in a separate glossary that you keep set as read-only (you can do this from the right-click Properties options in either Flare or Windows Explorer and it will take effect both places). This is because if the glossary is opened and a term that you ...

File format issues when receiving a review package
Hey, we've run into an issue where some of our SMEs laptops will change the extension on review packages from .fltrev to .html or .zip. I haven't nailed down why or what the common factor is either than it seems to happen on newer laptops.
Has anyone else run into this?

Re: The First Instance Conundrum
Well, I have a solution, though it may not be entirely Kosher: How the sausage can be made: Create a set of snippets for abbreviations you use regularly. Create a snippet for each abbreviation, with the abbreviation inside <abbr> tags with the title value defined. Example: <abbr title"Hypertext...

Hey, Roy. I'm attempting a similar feat. If I meet with any success, I'll share what I can here. Here's the v10 versions: MadCap Flare - About SharePoint Integration MadCap Flare - Connecting to ...

Interesting... could a glossary term be but within <abbr> tags, or <abbr> tags within a glossary term? We're going to be using the <abbr> tags anyway for reasons related to accessibility (screen readers and the like).

The First Instance Conundrum
In the world of single sourcing, how do you handle the issue of first instance rules, such as the use of ©,®, and ™ or spelling out an abbreviation or acronym? I tip my hat to Jose Sermeno and the folks at MadCap, they cooked up a javascript that will spell out abbreviations on first mention in ...
