make editor show condition from style
Hi, our CSS has this style: REVISED: span.NoteToReviewer { color: #ff0000; font-style: italic; mc-conditions: 'conditions.Notes to Reviewers'; } But when we apply the style to some text, there is no conditional indicator in the Flare editor. (If I manually apply the condition, then I see the conditio...

Re: minitoc links > open in new tab
Thanks for your message. Turns out this is a known issue, at least with 2017r3. MadCap Technical Support "submitted an issue report" under the number 134180.

hash issue in web.config redirect
Hi, our product has a "more info" link that customers can use to access a help topic. This link is a path-based URL to our old tripane output formatted similar to the following: https://help.nintex.com/en-US/nwc/#folder1/folder2/filename.htm Now that the help output is replaced with top-na...

defined class shows up as undefined style in report
Hi, the report I ran for undefined styles lists a defined style. Anyone know why? Wondering if it has to do with being a class? Undefined Styles report: Undefined Style (selector): MadCap|dropDown.basics File: Content/Topic-template.htm Style definition in CSS: MadCap|dropDown.basics { margin-bottom...

shared glossary + individual glossary
Hi, how do you handle common glossary terms across multiple projects, when you also want project-specific term definitions? For example, let's say I want to use the common definition (highlighted below) for "action group" but I also want to add project-specific content to the definition (s...

table autofit to window is cutoff
Hi, my table is set to "Autofit to window" but only the 1st through 3rd columns are showing. Could it be a nesting issue? The table is in a snippet, I insert the snippet into a dropdown within a list item in a dropdown within a higher list item, all of which lives in another snippet, which...

Re: add text below search results
Thank you, Dave! I added a topic, cross-referenced it from a topic that is in the TOC, styled the cross-reference with "display: none" so it doesn't show up in the output, and regenerated. Works great!

add text below search results
Hi, I would like to add text below the search results. The screenshot below shows the added text in the Search Heading UI text of the skin used for output. But I don't want to add the text at this position on the page. I want to add the text at the bottom of the page, after the search results. How c...

Re: Showing the -cshid identifier in a topic
I wrote a blog article about how to do this in HTML5 output: https://ukauthor.wordpress.com/2015/06/25/display-csh-link-for-current-topic/ Hi Dave, Thanks for this succinct how-to! Questions: 1. How to prevent URL from breaking? After publishing to my company-only server, I get the URL https://help...

Re: Annoying error message: "MadCap has stopped working"
Thanks - I just opened a case with support (126440) as I'm experiencing the same issue. The error message happens pretty much every time I exit Flare, and then my cursor stops responding for several seconds. When I click OK to dismiss the error, it often shows up again... ARRGGHH EDIT: Support got b...

RESOLVED - Re: Add Custom Content to Header
In case anyone is curious - here's the steps I followed. Previously I had the "Exclude content..." option selected. Clearing that option resolved the issue. 1. Add a variable to control the product name used in the output. 2. Update skin used by my target to use metaname reference to toolb...

RESOLVED - Re: top-nav feedback by topic
Dave, Renee, thanks for your help! I was able to add a custom toolbar button that does the job. Details below for anyone else reading. To add a custom toolbar button that opens up email in the user's default email client: 1. Open the toolbar skin: Project/Skins/TopicToolbar.flskn 2. In the Setup tab...

Re: R3 Git problems! Back to R1
Good question. We keep the binding and use Flare integration to commit and push, but we rely on gitbash for major operations, such as clone, switch branch, etc.

Flare installer seen as malware
My coworker had to install Flare 2017r3 on a new laptop (Windows 10) after a huge Windows update. SentinelOne said the Flare installer was malware. Has anyone experienced this? We filed a bug with MadCap as well as a helpdesk ticket with our IT department. Note: Issue was seen with the download file...

minitoc links > open in new tab
Hi, if I click a minitoc link, it works as expected. But if I right-click and select Open in new tab (or copy link to use in new tab), I get a 404 on our help site because the server seems to think the page doesn't exist, even though it does! The only difference seems to be the omission of the pound...

Re: R3 Git problems! Back to R1
Agree with the gist of your post, Trent. My experience is that the built-in source control integration in Flare is less reliable than gitbash.
Thanks,
Pamela

Re: R3 Git problems! Back to R1
Hi Trent, thanks for your message. We use Git repositories in Visual Studio Online (not github), and we use the Flare Publish feature to post help output on our website via FTP. All that is to say I don't know if these issues are related to github publishing. Good luck!

R3 Git problems! Back to R1
MadCap Support confirms the following issues with Flare 2017 R3: Git SSH key not recognized and Git source control binding lost on shared machine. [EDIT: The lost source control binding may be an environmental issue... not sure.] We're considering downgrading back to the last version we used - R1. A...

Re: Publish failed: Cannot open data connection. (code=425)
Hi Dave, thanks for your reply. We've had this issue with several Flare projects and destination settings in those projects have not changed. The only thing that changed was moving from 2017 R1 to 2017 R3 of Flare. I am in conversations with support. Best, Pamela (p.s. Although associated with the l...

Git source control binding lost on shared machine
Steps to repro: 1. User A clones a Git project on a shared machine. 2. User B opens the cloned project. Expected results: Source control binding should be retained. User B's SSH key should be referenced when the project is opened. Actual results: Source control binding is lost. Workaround: Run MadCa...
