Is there a way to generate a PDF from an individual html topic (ideally using a button on the page), without having to create a TOC in advance?
One of our customers has said that while reading a given topic, they would like to be able to print that individual topic out as a PDF by pressing a button ...

Video links in HTML output defaulting to Internet Explorer
In our HTML output we provide links to videos (on YouTube) describing various product functions.
When clicking a link to a video two things happen:
1. A web page opens from Microsoft explaining that the website does not work in Internet Explorer, and that IE will be retired soon.
2. Another ...

Index: page numbers before the leader (mc-leader)
In my PDF index, the item page number comes before the leader.
Example:

It should be
aggregation ................. 36

Re: TOC in HTML5 output does not expand automatically
Thanks, will give this a try; I hope this is a skin-related issue. I cannot imagine that it is hard-coded Flare behaviour.

Re: TOC in HTML5 output does not expand automatically
Thanks!
Just to clarify, I can open the TOC, and the TOC pane will display - but only if I manually click the "Contents" tab. And that's not what we want.
Will give it another go with Flare support!

Re: Is Default.mcwebhelp and/or others necessary?
Thanks Dave Lee.
I originally wanted to get rid of them in the interest of tidiness, but I think you're probably right.
It's strange:
I can
1. generate a system (for example, with the output file name, "abc"), and the resulting top-level files are "abc.htm" and "abc.mcwebhelp", then

Re: TOC in HTML5 output does not expand automatically

I have tried to nested and un-nested TOCs, with the same result: the Contents tab does not expand upon system opening.
I assume I understand correctly what you mean by 'nested'.
I have attached a screenshot to illustrate the problem:

TOC in HTML5 output does not expand automatically
The TOC tab (Contents) in HTML5 does not expand automatically.
I've already looked at the topic "HTML5: TOC expanded pre-Flare 9, but not in 9" in this forum, but I'm not sure it applies.
I had previously submitted a Flare support request for this issue a couple of months back, and got this reply ...

Is Default.mcwebhelp and/or others necessary?
When building an HTML5 system, you get the default main entry point "Default.htm" (provided you haven't specified another output file name).
You also get the files
- csh.js
- Default.js
- Default.mcwebhelp
- Default_CSH.htm
Which of these files is necessary?

ChoccieMuffin, you were right - another writer at one of our offices did it with a snippet. So that's what I'll try. Thanks for your time!

Re: Editing Variable text style: superscript for TM symbol
Hmm, not sure where or how you're doing that.
When I open the Variable set from the Variables folder, select the desired variable, click Character on the ribbon, it does not let me select (R) - that is, the characters appear, but they are greyed out, and cannot be selected.

Re: Editing Variable text style: superscript for TM symbol
Yes, we have a global stylesheet, but I'm not sure what you mean by "global topic" (I'm still a beginner). If you mean a global style in our stylesheet, then yes (we call it ).
I think I'm probably missing something.
Code: Select all
ProductName_PDF_Front_VariableI think I'm probably missing something.

Re: Editing Variable text style: superscript for TM symbol

Yep, it's true that you can't apply styles to a variable, but there's also no way to place the (R) on the front page so that it precisely jibes with the position of the variable when the PDF is built. Or I guess you could do that, but we have 20+ different guides, and getting the micro ...

Editing Variable text style: superscript for TM symbol
Anyone know how to apply superscript* to the registered trademark symbol (R) in a variable?
I can't get the registered trademark symbol to appear in a smaller typeface (font) size and a few px higher in PDF output using a variable.
