Re: MadCap Central beta trial version

For what it's worth, the MadCap Central beta doesn't actually have any download, it's a web-based application. In the case of the trial for Flare 2016 r2, which connects to MadCap Central, I didn't have any issues obtaining the trial version and was able to get it up and running pretty quickly.

Re: Image Conditions vs. output folder

Question: Do I really have to put a additionally condition on an image. When I will change the condition in the topic for the future release and forget my image condition, the image will not be displayed  Hi, Matze, You do, unfortunately/fortunately. When you add conditional tags to content ...

Re: Fonts are sans-serif when I've specified serif

So I'd put each heading in twice, one conditioned for print, the other for online. In that case it was the best alternative, but one good thing about single sourcing is there are a variety of options depending on what you are doing... I see now! Thanks very much, Steve, I misunderstood. That makes ...

Re: finding broken links in target

I've run into another problem with this broken links list, which I assume is due to some bug, where files that have been excluded from the build (both the topic and TOC entry) still appear as reporting broken links. How can a file that's excluded from the build be reported as having broken links? T...

Re: Selector box

Are you thinking like a drop-down box that you'll see on a website form? If so, I know you can do it via the text editor, editing the code directly, but not sure if you can do it from the XML editor. Someone may be able to give you guidance there. For what it's worth, here's a link to the w3schools ...

This is great! Thanks so much, I'd been wondering about this, too. It drives me crazy how each individual topic that opens grabs focus.

Re: Fonts are sans-serif when I've specified serif

The whole point of the stylesheet is to format the same content differently in different outputs. It makes no sense that I would have to conditionalize output at all. I can't really speak to the "conditionalizing" bit, Robyn, I've never had to do that and we manage pretty complex print an...

Re: finding broken links in target

Would it not be a lot easier to just build the target and check the build log? The build log will report any links to topics that have been excluded by conditions. Also, sorry, honestly not trying to harp on this -- I'd never really tried this method, so was testing it out. I'm not actually seeing ...

Re: finding broken links in target

David, I'm glad it worked out. That's an age-old limitation of Flare, I feel the same way. Kinda wish it behaved closer to RoboHelp, which had the option to copy any condition tag you applied to the TOC directly to the corresponding topic. Would it not be a lot easier to just build the target and ch...

Re: finding broken links in target

Hi, David, We had this same issue. I ended up creating a utility that scans for broken links, images, bookmarks, etc. after a Flare project is generated in order to resolve this issue. However... An easier way may be to export the project based on the target you're trying to build. Since it will use...

Re: Can I turn off auto-insertion of non-breaking spaces?

What is Flare's logic for inserting   Unfortunately, this is a super easy thing to insert as a user. The non-breaking space shortcut is "Shift+Space" -- when you enter capital letters, such as you say (MY Data File.csv), you may not be releasing the shift key between the Y and D, or you m...

Re: How can I exclude individual resources

The problem is that 2 of the imported images already exist in ProjectB. Each time I re-import, these images are imported with an incremental file name. For instance, information.png imports as information1.png. And the imported source file that references information.png automatically updates to li...

Re: Help! Conditionaly tag images based on topics with image

Hi, Joachim, A quicker solution might be to organize those images into folders. You can then apply the conditional tag at the folder level. For example, you could create a ChildOutput1 folder and place all the images that are specifically for that output into that folder, to which you apply the Chil...

I think one of the features that isn't very well known is the ability to select multiple files in the Content Explorer. Once you've selected those files, you can open them in the XML Editor using a method similar to the one phriend identified. First, in the Content Explorer , click the Show Files bu...

Unfortunately, I've never seen that feature work fully as expected. It will also exclude any files you link to from your stylesheets (for example, custom icons for a note style, or fonts), even though the stylesheet is included by the target. It appears to be at best a loose definition of "indi...

You could also apply a conditional tag to the version number so that it can be excluded for certain outputs. Like, maybe a "unversioned" tag that excludes version numbers throughout a system.

Re: Is there a way to share Concepts with another Project?

It's not a perfect solution, but since concepts are driven by topics, you could probably just create a holding topic that contains every concept you want to share. Then, you could share that topic with other projects to push the general list of concepts around. And you could omit that holding topic ...
