I've managed to open a ticket, using an earlier version of Flare.

URGENT! Data root level invalid / XML Parsing Error

Hi all, I had a build bug with error message "Build failed: Data at the root level is invalid. Line 1, position 1" It occurs on one target, not others. I updated to the very latest Flare version (2017 r3 2017-12-04), rebooted, problem persists. I took a target that worked and changed just ...

Re: lost the build window

Hi,
The problem seems to have disappeared: I've got the build window back.
Since, I've installed the latest patch (2017-11-07:09:09) - maybe that is related (or is it just random?)
Regards

lost the build window

Hi all, Now when I build a target, I get a floating window, without any build date or progress columns (but with Warning and Error tabs) I tried docking the window by moving it above Flare but I don't get the usual icons signaling I can drop it inside. Apart from being distracting it prevents me fro...

Flare 2017 messes up pdf cover page

The only difference between the 2 outputs in the attached images seems to be that one was published using Flare 12 and the other with Flare 2017. Someone suggested maybe flare 2017 can't read inline styles, might that be true?

Avoid Flare making changes to files

Hi, Using source control, I would like to keep track of which files have been changed due to a given issue ticket or new feature. But changes caused by Flare in line 2 of the file get mixed up with the actual changes to the content: <html xmlns:MadCap="http://www.madcapsoftware.com/Schemas/MadC...

duplicates in alias files

I get many duplicates in my alias file When I look at it in Flare, it has 50 lines. In Notepad++, the file is very short (see below) This is causing problems because the aliases are used by a program to generate a page of links. What can I do to avoid this? <?xml version="1.0" encoding=&qu...

Disconnect project from SVN

I want to make tests on a project, to build masterpages / scripts / css files. I checked out a project into a test folder, removed the svn folder and am working on it. It's OK until I want to change a file name, when I get: Operation rename failed: the source control provider has been disconnected. ...

Hi,
Is there any easy way of finding the list of the topics that belong to several TOCs?
In Analyzer maybe?

Conditions in Linked TOC

I have sets of guides, each with a TOC and a target: User guide, Install guide, etc Some common topics have parts with conditions, so that those parts appear in some guides and not others (include this paragraph in User guide only, etc). Now I want to create a linked TOC by dragging all the TOCs int...

Re: menu proxy with linked TOC

THanks Dave
I did that and I do get a context-sensitive menu.
But I get the list of chapters from each doc directly at the top level of the TOC, instead of the list User guide - Configuration guide - etc

Search for topic file name

I'm looking for a topic and I have its file name in the clipboard. (I am viewing the topic in webhelp mode, so it's easy to copy the name of the file.) But in Flare I see no easy way of opening that file. I have to make a note of the succession of folders and open each one successively. Or copy a sa...

block snippets lose formatting

I read in the doc: Block Snippets If you insert a snippet on a blank line in a topic, it is inserted as a block snippet and takes up all of the room so that no other content can be added. Block snippets are best for multiple paragraphs, lists, and other large chunks of content. But despite inserting...

Using the TOC proxy for html output

Hi, I've been asked to investigate the possibility of creating a frameless html output with a TOC component. I tried inserting a TOC proxy into the masterpage. I get a flat list of links, and nothing seems to distinguish a 1st level TOC entry from a second-level. Is there any way to achieve style di...

"Exclude content not linked directly" not excluding

I'm using Flare 11. This issue has been discussed in other streams, but I'd like to make a statement in favor of the Target properties > Advanced > "Exclude content not linked directly" option really doing what it says it does. We have a mammoth project with conditions and relationship tab...

I've heard of the "Allow local stylesheets" option (supposedly in the Project properties > Default) and I can't find it. I've seen a screenshot here: http://help.madcapsoftware.com/flare12/Content/Styles/About_Regular_Stylesheets.htm#LocalMasterStylesheetsOnline > open "Master Stylesh...

@MattyQ: Thanks for the link. I'm trying to implement this as indicated but encountering weird behavior from Flare. I think I'll detail out each occurrence separately, maybe this post is covers too much ground.
