Does Flare have a global setting for the SVN repository URL?
Hello: My company is doing some server changes and the path to our SVN repository is changing. For now, the "old" server is redirecting to the new server. However, when the old one is shut down, we will need to update the bound path in Flare. My question -- is there a "global" se...

Re: Spaces disappearing between variables and snippets
So this problem/bug has been around since 2008 (and maybe before that). It's now almost the end of 2022 and it's still not fixed?! The non-breaking space is a workaround not a solution. Madcap - please fix it!

Merged TOC breaks Previous and Next buttons in CHM output
I was recently working on a project (Project A) that uses a merged TOC to incorporate the output from another CHM file (Project B) at the bottom of Project A's TOC. I discovered that the Previous / Next buttons no longer work for the Project A portion of the TOC. They don't activate until you go int...

Re: Flare 2020 bugs and crashes
I talked with tech support this morning and we ran a "Repair" on the Flare 2020 installation. That was about 2 hours ago, and it has been stable so far. I'm keeping my fingers (and toes) crossed that it is fixed now. I'll report back if there is (or not) continued success after a week or t...

Re: Flare 2020 bugs and crashes
It happens in every Flare 2019_R2 project that I try to work on in Flare 2020.

Flare 2020 bugs and crashes
When Flare 2020 was released, I installed that on my Windows 10 PC but also retained Flare 2019_R2. Since doing that, every previous project that worked perfectly in Flare 2019_R2 runs into some type of bug or crash when I try to open it in Flare 2020. This is the most frustrating Flare upgrade that...

Re: Webbased review / commenting system
I'm having a similar problem with Genius Web Annotate. I posted a test document in HTML5 format. It is not on an https URL, but I cannot get any annotations to work in it. If anyone has ideas on how to fix this, please let me know.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Help me understand linking to an external HTML file
It is a single file that is currently outside of any Flare project, as we wanted to be able to update it independently of the CHM builds. Originally, I wanted to have a local HTML file that I could link to from several different CHMs. However, I don't think that's possible unless the file is embedde...

Help me understand linking to an external HTML file
I'm working on a Flare project that outputs to a CHM file. I want to embed a link in the TOC that goes out to our website and retrieves an HTML file (just a single file). In other words, I want the link to be out to that file on the website, so I can update that content independently of updates we d...

Re: Translation from multi-manual Flare project
Thanks for the reply. I spoke with tech support last evening, and they also told me about the Export feature. I just tested it this morning, and it looks like that will work for me.

Translation from multi-manual Flare project
I have a Flare project that I'm using to create four different product guides. About 60% of the content is shared, while the remainder is product specific. The output for each guide is PDF (content is controlled through conditionally tagged topics, snippets, variables, etc.). We now have orders to t...

Re: SVN - Linking a project to other projects
Yes, I actually just got a call from tech support and they told me the same thing. (Apparently, there was some misunderstanding or miscommunication about how those features interacted.) During the call, I asked if Flare would automatically get the latest version of the Global project from SVN if the...

Re: SVN - Linking a project to other projects
I have been doing some experimenting with this (storing the Global project in SVN). -I'm only using it for common items (boilerplate topics, CSS, global variables, global conditions, common graphics, etc.). - I'm the only one who touches the content in the Global project. - I'm the only one who star...

Re: SVN - Linking a project to other projects
I just had an email conversation with Flare tech support regarding using SVN with Global Project Linking. They told me: It is not recommended to use global project linking in conjunction with source control, this workflow can cause a lot of conflicts within source control because the local version o...

Re: Flare 10 SVN performance
We are in a holding pattern at Flare 9.x until the SVN issues are resolved. I couldn't stand the thought of subjecting the other members of my team to the long check-in/out times, black screen, etc. I was excited when the 10.1 patch was released, but that quickly turned to disappointment when I foun...

Re: Flare 10 and subversion: slow check-in, check-out, sync
As multiple files are checked out, the check-out process slows way down. With multiple files checked out, navigation in the Content Explorer and File List slows way down. With no files checked out, switching between tabs (for example, from Content Explorer to File List) has "lag" when comp...

Re: Flare 10 and subversion: slow check-in, check-out, sync
I don't think this is totally fixed. I just submitted three bug reports related to check-out problems that I'm seeing in the 10.1 patch.

Re: Flare 10 and subversion: slow check-in, check-out, sync
I've been testing Flare 10 for our group for the past 2 weeks and having very similar problems. I can't take it (the extremely slow check in/out speeds) any longer, and I can't recommend the upgrade if it's being used with SVN. I'm going to revert back to Flare 9 until they get this problem fixed.

Re: Flare 10: content unreadable due to variable overflow
I have some variables with rather long names and values, but I don't see this behavior on my system. How long is the variable/value in your example?

Re: Flares 10 crashes on Find
I am also testing Flare 10 for our group. I was told by Madcap tech support that any projects bound to SVN would no longer work in Flare 9.x once opened in Flare 10, as Flare 10 will make some updates to SVN that are not compatible with Flare 9.x.

You have to set that pane to Standard Tabs view. Then it will work.

I need local variables (specific to a topic)
I'm working on a command reference that contains 3 topics with nearly identical text. There are only a few words in each that differ based on the particular topic. It would be ideal if I could declare a few local variables at the top of each topic and then use snippets for all the common text -- the...
