Re: Preview as Primary Target not applying Master Stylesheet

We have been having the same problem here for several months now.

It started when we updated to Flare 2020, and the latest update R2 didn't address it.

I reported it as a bug in July. We're also seeing another issue where the topic preview window hangs. Both issues are very frustrating.

Re: Is it me? Or is it Flare 12?

I find when I try to type a topic filename in the Quick Launch GUI, I get no response at all but cut and paste does. Similarly, typing in the Find/Replace dialog has no response but cut and paste does. [...] It gets "stuck" as if I have accidentally pressed a keyboard combo that locks out...

Re: Is it me? Or is it Flare 12?

We're (myself and two other coworkers) experiencing the same mouse and keyboard lag. We're all working in different projects of various sizes. I've seen it in two of my projects. One has 161 topics and the other one is close to 1000. So far closing my TOC does seem to have made a difference. I can ...

Re: Is it me? Or is it Flare 12?

Just to follow up on this thread, I finally filed a bug with Madcap, after trying many of the suggestions here. I've gone back to using Flare 11, which is much faster. Flare 12 is unusable with my large project. I wanted to use so many new features, but I just can't work with a keyboard and mouse la...

Re: Is it me? Or is it Flare 12?

I still have some more testing to do to see if I can determine the root cause. I don't believe the issue is tied to analyzer or source control - I'm getting blank screens on projects not bound to Subversion, and all of my analyzer options are off. I'm on Windows 10 Pro 64bit edition, using 64bit Fl...

Re: Search.mcsdb.gif & Search.s3db.gif

Just closing the loop on this question. Madcap says: This file typically should only appear if you're building a DotNet Help output. If you'd like to remove it, you should be able to, but I would recommend creating a backup of the project before doing so in case it needs to be restored. We weren't b...

Re: Search.mcsdb.gif & Search.s3db.gif

I am pretty sure that file is an SQLite database file. You could install a free tool such as DB Browser for SQLite and take a look and see what is in this database.
Thanks Paulie. I still don't know why Flare generates them but at least now I can open them!

Did you just remove them?

Hi Justin, We're getting numerous comments related to content searches, and Google led us to Flarestrap. I put together a quick example using your template, and we all loved it. We didn't realize the scope of the SEO issue until we started digging -- so, thank you for sharing your solution! I like d...

Re: repeated footnotes

Same problem here. I managed to manually wrangle the numbers and spacing so that it looks okay in Flare, but now the target (HTML5) popups are inconsistently sized (either too small or too large) for the footnote text, and hyperlinks are disabled. I'll also submit a feature request. This seems like ...

You're welcome. I fiddled with this a bit at first too.

I think because the list in the Insert image dialog is blank, it's a bit counterintuitive.

Hi Margaret,

It works for me if I click the "Select image" button, then click the browse button near the bottom of the Insert Image dialog.

Re: Lists playing up in Flare 10

This is what Madcap support told me: Based on my test, it looks like the issue has been corrected in Flare 10. The indention in the XML Editor in 10 is identical to the output, the indention in the XML Editor in 9 is much less. When I asked for clarification, he said that with the Flare 10 "fix...

Re: Acrolinx - anyone?

So, my suspicions are confirmed, this is not a viable solution for a small organization. I am quite disappointed because MadCap made a huge deal of this partnership with Acrolinx... strange, because I suspect that only a very small percentage of us will be able to take advantage of the product. Re: Lists playing up in Flare 10

Joy, it's not just you - my lists don't display properly in the XML editor either (the indent is all wrong), but the output - which is what really matters - does generate correctly, so I'm just living with it. Does anyone have any suggestions to make the WYSIWYG view a bit more accurate, rather tha...

Re: Lists playing up in Flare 10

Joy, see the post directly above where my colleague identified the cause of the problem, and then told me the solution. Thanks ChoccieMuffin. I did see the post. The solution works in an HTML5 target build, so thanks for that, but changing the target property does not change the XML editor view. I ...

I'm having the same problems in Flare 10.1 (exactly what ChoccieMuffin posted). The bullet size is smaller and the indent space has nearly tripled.
I haven't changed anything except my Flare version!

I'm reporting it as a bug.

I'm also experiencing a couple of lockups per day, to the point where I'm losing work (even though I'm a compulsive Ctrl-S-er). I've never had this happen before with Flare! I updated to 9.1 yesterday and it's still happening, at random times: sometimes in the XML editor, and sometimes just doing so...

Combine multiple Flare topics into a single topic

I'm working on a very large restructuring project. I have over 200 folders, each containing anywhere from 10-50 topics. Within each folder, I want to combine the 10-50 topics into a single topic. Is there any way to do this? I found an old reference here http://forums.madcapsoftware.com/viewtopic.ph...

I have 8 GB of RAM on Windows 7 and I also experience lag issues with Flare. For me, it seems to happen mostly after Flare has been running for a day or so. It doesn't matter whether the project is large or small. I wonder if it's a memory leak because most of the time the lag sorts itself out after...

Apple iBookstore rejects Flare ePub file

I created an ePub target from one of our more popular manuals. The "book" looks great on the iPad/iPhone but it's a bit of a process to get it there (right now I'm using Dropbox to transfer the file). We wanted to provide it as a free "book" for download, but Apple's iBookstore r...

Re: ePub TOC: Cannot exclude headings

I don't want the second-level headings in this particular file, so I won't need to worry about indenting.

Good idea to add a different medium. I'll play with that a bit too.

Thanks so much for the pointers!

Re: ePub TOC: Cannot exclude headings

I somehow missed your response to this. YES that worked. I guess what I didn't notice was that the TOC doesn't have a concept of 2nd-level (indented) entries, so all headings display at the top level. Setting mc-heading-level=0 for all headings except h1 produced the desired result. So now I have to...
