Publishing HTML5 output online
Does the HTML5 online help require users to have Windows to view it? What about all the folks on linux, openVMS, UNIX, etc.?

Re: Computer died--how to get projects to new installation?
Nita - This is the first time I've had to retrieve from backup files. I had no idea that it didn't back up all the files :( . I'm using an external hard drive from now on. I will be able to get some files from the original hard drive, so all is not lost. I didn't realize that Flare had its own backu...

Re: Computer died--how to get projects to new installation?
I guess I'm in good shape, then. I've got all the html source files, so I just need to load them into Frame and create the projects. Thanks so much!

Re: Computer died--how to get projects to new installation?
Nita--thanks for your reply! You understand me correctly--there are no project listed under Recent Projects. My backup files were created by Norton, for my whole machine, not just Flare. So the html files are backed up and on my new computer, but for some reason the .flprj files were not backed up. ...

Computer died--how to get projects to new installation?
My computer died, so I cannot get files from it. I installed Flare 2017 on my new computer using the key I had been sent. Installation went great but there are no projects in Flare now, and I don't know how to load the files (which I was able to get from backup) to the new installation of Flare, or ...

What is this strange icon????
I was editing a file, when all of a sudden my cursor turned into this icon thingy--see the attached image. It won't let me edit anything now, and when I try to select something, I get the same image, only it's blue (with a white "i") and blinking. This has stopped me cold, and it's not a g...

Re: Stylesheet shortcuts?
Wow! I never would have thought of using "global project linking" for a search when I was looking for other posts on this question. That's one problem with online searching instead of using indexes (or the old library cards when looking for books): you're unlikely to come upon other items ...

Stylesheet shortcuts?
Is there a way to have one stylesheet in a central location on my computer (such as a templates folder in my Flare directory) with shortcuts to it in each of my projects so that when I tweak or add new styles, the changes are automatically reflected in the projects? I have been doing this manually b...

Re: Target Failing to Inject Empty Pages Correctly
I'm having the same issue with chapter pages not beginning on the First Right. This is compounded by the fact that I can set the page layout for a topic 'till the cows come home, but the setting disappears the minute I close the file. This is how I'm setting the page layouts: I open a file, select t...

Re: Conditional text applied automatically to page numbers?
Nita,
All I can say is "duh." Of course I can include the page number in my print style and not in my online style!
Thanks a million!

Re: Conditional text applied automatically to page numbers?
Thanks everyone for your great ideas! But I have a question about the code example: the print example shows the two colors being used (blue and black), but doesn't appear to address the conditional text issue. Is there additional code I can use to make the page numbers conditional for print only? Th...

Conditional text applied automatically to page numbers?
I'm single-sourcing my HTML5 output with PDF output. I created a cross reference style that lists the page number along with the term. Here's what I put for the properties: {color blue}{paratext}{/color} {color black}(page {page}) The end result is something like this: allowFileOpens (page 1) I've ...

Re: Online topics flow together? Impossible?
ChoccieMuffin and dorcutt: If only I had the info you gave me before I started PDFing that document, I would have saved hours and hours and hours. I just generated a PDF on a new doc, using your tips, and it looks wonderful! I don't have to cut and paste, I don't have to create new references to wit...

Re: Online topics flow together? Impossible?
Again, thanks for the tips! I generated my target--with the cut & paste and links pointing to the topics within the chapter rather than to the separate topics in my content explorer. Which is not what you asked, but it did turn out beautifully. I'm going to try the new process on a different doc...

Re: Online topics flow together? Impossible?
Thanks for the advice, folks! I knew there had to be a better way. I do have some questions about your comments: You don't need to do make any changes to your topics. Instead, you create a new TARGET for your PDF and modify the STYLESHEET (or medium) for the new target. If by "create a new targ...

Re: Online topics flow together? Impossible?
Although I've had Flare for several years, I'm still a novice because I have had little time to get to know it. With that disclaimer out of the way, I'm going to tell you what I've been doing to get my online topics into a PDF-type flow. It's not pretty, and I'm sure that there's got to be a better ...
