Re: XLIFF bundle

David, in regards to your questions: For 1, yes this is the normal behavior, when you create a project it will create files for each language. As for 2 if you export by target, it will pull all files necessary to compile this target. Thats one of the strenghts of Lingo so you dont miss anything beca...

Re: Exporting translations to Flare or keeping them in Lingo

Dave, first of all thanks for the answer. This helps a lot. Here is my take on the options available based on your reply. Option 1 – Keep everything in Lingo While this is certainly an opinion, keep in mind one thing: If you keep everything in Lingo and make for example changes in the English and th...

Re: Exporting translations to Flare or keeping them in Lingo

David,

before I reply in more detail, I have 2 questions for you.

1. Are you releasing all 12 languages simultaneously?
2. How often are updates planned?

Regards,

Re: Losing translations when moving files in Flare

If you have the translations in a translation memory, you will not loose them. If you rename files (example file A becomes file B) and update the project it will basically tell you that file A was deleted and file B was newly added. Since the translations are in the translation memory that should be...

Re: Managing versions

In regards to versioning, I created a little write-up under viewtopic.php?f=40&t=29067, which might help. As for source control Lingo does at this time only support Perforce, TFS and GIT. YOu might have to get creative there.

Re: Translation Memories

No problem. Just make sure that you export the TM afterwards in TMX format. In this manner you have a backup if you ever need to reßcreate something.

Re: Translation Memories

George, your have two options here based on your post. I am assuming that you have a lingo license. 1. Create an empty translation memory and link this memory to your Lingo project. Open the lingo project and highlight the translated files and select upload to TM. In this manner the translations wil...

Re: Improving an MT with a TM

Yes this can be done, but the question becomes if it will be worth the effort, because once you get into creating subject-specific MT engines, they need to be maintained. Could you provide a a bit more info and what MT system are you using?

Re: Changing file names in Flare...

Actually, there is no better way, because what you described is the way Lingo is supposed to work. Before you go to far in, I would however have a discussion with DEV, because if this happens again you are right back where you started from. Here is a simple way of dealing with this. 1. Create a back...

Re: How does Lingo manage ongoing content changes

Rick, actually it does know what changed within a topic. It does the update on what I would term a granular level aka translation segment level, meaning if you have in a file 10 translation units and only 1 unit has changed, it will leave the translations for the 9 translation units unchanged and le...

Re: How does Lingo manage ongoing content changes

Rick, I am managing a large Lingo implementation, and I can answer this question for you. Following you will find a step-by-step listing on how to go about it. This was pulled from my policy. 1. Create the English (I assume that is the source language) Flare project and make sure that it compiles wi...

Re: How do I import and preview translat Lingo files in Flar

Ludwine, to answer your question: After you have completed the translation in Lingo, go under the file menu and export the project in a location of your choice. Do not overwrite your source project. Exporting will create a flare project with the translation. At the end of the export Lingo will tell ...

Re: Multi-lingual project with multi-updates; using Flare/Li

Adriana,

Kellie is correct. For every update after translation you will have to run a new export from Lingo and them compile in Flare.

Importing large TMX files gives error with timeout

I am having some issues with SQL 2014. I had a crash and re-installed everything, created new databases, but populating them is the problem. I have tmx files with over 100,000 TUs and I get the error message that the TMX file is corrupt which is followed by the timeout error. I checked the TMX file ...

Martin,

the answer is yes. Its also present in Flare 12. Therefore, add some extra time for compiling since this change is best done once the localized project is ready to be compiled with Flare.

Re: Lingo review workfow with external translator

Why dont you just go ahead and instead of the Agency sending you the translator package for integrating...

Re: Corrupted characters in Index and TOC for Vietnamese

I had similar issues with Asian languages and it was solved as follows: 1.Open the relevant MadCap Flare project. 2.Open the target file. 3.In the target file, uncheck the option Add DOCTYPE declaration to generated topics in the Advanced tab of the CHM target. 4.Save the project and re-compile. Re: Lingo review workfow with external translator

Wayne, there are a few options, but lots will depend on how you are set up in regards to vendor cooperation, your company policy, etc. Option 1 This is how I handle this. However, I have a tight environment and maintain absolute control over the translations. Addtionally, I do not require the use of...
