Re: No Analyzer Folder

Dave, thank you for pointing me in the right direction! Based on your response, I found the Analyzer folder here: Local Disk > Users > name > AppData > Local > MadCap Software.

Thanks for your help! :flare:

No Analyzer Folder

Hi, Flare has been slow for me, so I looked up troubleshooting tips. A common suggestion is to delete the Analyzer folder. According to Flare documentation , this folder should be in the same directory as the Content and Output folders. However, I don't see the Analyzer folder (see attached screensh...

I was also getting the "setup cancelled the operation was cancelled. no changes have been made." I was able to resolve it by downloading the latest version of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable from https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170, as...

Re: Add Expires Headers

That is very helpful! Thank you for sharing. I'll have to share that info w/ my Web team (they control the AWS bucket) and see if they can set it up properly.

Thanks!

Add Expires Headers

Hello MadCappers, How do you add "max-age" or "Expires headers" to static assets. I ran my site through various site speed optimization tools, and they all recommend using browser caching of static assets (css, js, images). To give more context, here are the tools I use: Pingdom ...

Re: Remove Empty Attribute

Thanks for explaining. The Target applies a Master Stylesheet to the whole target, so does each topic even need to link to a stylesheet? Could I just delete that line of code from the <head>?

Remove Empty Attribute

Now that Analyzer is part of Flare 2018, I'm running all of the analysis tools that I didn't have before. The Markup Suggestions tool shows a ton of "Remove empty attribute" issues. It looks like almost every one of my topics has this code in the <head> section: <link href="" rel...

Re: Cache Control on Amazon S3??

Hi there! I'm in the same boat, and I ended up starting a new thread: https://forums.madcapsoftware.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=30420 I didn't even know there was an option to upload directly to Amazon. I use Transmit (https://panic.com/transmit/) to upload content to our S3 bucket. I used to use Cy...

Leverage browser caching

Hi All, I create HTML5 output and host it on Amazon AWS S3. I regularly test our site's speed and performance using the tools listed below, and the results consistently show that our assets/resources aren't getting cached, including css, png, and js. We now have some of our content using CloudFront ...

Re: hreflang

Hi Alex, No worries! I'm glad you brought up the "Add meta tags.." field, because I didn't realize that option even existed. I might be able to put it to good use! Also, I submitted a feature request, asking that MadCap expands the type of code allowed in the "Add meta tags..." f...

Re: hreflang

Hi Alex, Great tip! However, I copied the text into the "Add meta tags to content" field, and I got an "Invalid XML" warning from Flare. When I build the target, the code doesn't show up in the <head> section. Any idea why Flare wouldn't support the code? I'm using the format tha...

hreflang

I generate HTML5 output in multiple languages. Google recommends including the hreflang attribute to direct users to the content appropriate for their language/region. Google explains that there are a few ways to incorporate the hreflang attribute: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/189077...

Can you include screen shots of the site to show what you want to change? Extra context is helpful. :)

URLs for Translated HTML

I have an HTML user guide that is available in multiple languages; you can select your language from the Language Selector icon. When you select a language, the URL changes to include the language. For example, this would be the new URL when you select Japanese (ja): UseGuideTitle /ja/ Content/Intro...

Re: Optimize Page Load Time

Hi Dave, Thanks for the response! I didn't even realize that some of those files were already minified; that explains the ".min." in the file names. This is all new to me, so your info and recommendations is really helpful. Is there a specific tool you recommend to minify files, or are the...

Optimize Page Load Time

Hi Everyone, I use Google Analytics to view metrics for the HTML output my team creates via MadCap Flare. The analytics showed that the average page load time is pretty high, so I used the PageSpeed Tools (part of Google Analytics) to identify problem areas and possible solutions. The tool recommend...

Re: Inline Images Increase Line Spacing

Hi Nita,

Thanks for the pointers! I deleted the float and clear attributes, and set a margin-bottom attribute. The margin didn't completely fix the wonky line spacing, but it helped a little.

Thanks!

Inline Images Increase Line Spacing

The guide I'm working on includes icons throughout paragraphs; for example: "Click the <icon image> to open the menu". I was able to add these images and control the size via CSS. However, adding the images increases the line spacing. How can I fix this and ensure that the inline images do...

Re: Flare on a Mac

@Isleofgough: That sounds very odd! My Windows VM and Mac OS basically have no idea that the other exists. Flare has used only programs in the Windows VM. Good luck! You may have already done this, but I recommend Googling this. Or, if someone else set up the VM (like your IT team), I recommend aski...

Re: Flare on a Mac

My co-worker and I each have MacBook Pros, and we use Flare via virtual machines. For the most part, we don't experience any issues. Sometimes the programs in the VM slow down a little, but in those situations I close out the programs and re-start the VM, and it works just fine again.
