Re: failed to compile document '.', hexadecimal value 0x00,
The first thing is to identify the file that's causing the problem. In the build window, select the failed build and click Open Build Log. Then look at the Messages tab and see what was the last file mentioned before the build failed. If you can't open the build log from within Flare (which is rath...

failed to compile document '.', hexadecimal value 0x00, is a
Complete error is: failed to compile document '.', hexadecimal value 0x00, is an invalid character. Line 1, position 1. It's happening on a project I was trying to preview. Also happens when I build. There is no other error and I can't access the build log. I have cleaned the project, still no help....

Issue with Background:System.Data.SQLite.SQLiteException
Hi Helpful Propeller heads! I created a new project in Flare, then populated it with images and .htm pages I plan to use across multiple projects. The goal is to use this as a base file for all the docs I write for a specific department. When I start Flare and select the project, I get the following...

Bi-Directional (Two Way) Arrows?
I have arrows that I use to indicate motion or an action in the documents I create. I sometimes have to create arrows that move in two directions and on top of that, I sometimes have a curved two way arrow. Now I can do this in PhotoShop with ease, but in Flare (via Capture), I would have to layer o...

Re: Is there a way to...?
Image size might be a bit more complex, I'd be looking at image resolution in the photoshop part of the process. It sounds as if different resolutions might be applied. A 4x2 image at 72dpi is going to display differently compared to a 4x2 image at 96dpi in a media (ie computer screen) that is pixe...

Is there a way to...?
So my co-workers and I have been working in Flare for a couple of months and what we've noticed is that we spend a lot of time "formatting" images. We always use a 1px black border on images and our images are always sized to 4" wide by 2" high. The problem is, we constantly have...

Sorry for the long delay since your reply, but I was working with our IT department, Madcap Flare Support and it appears that it might have been a resources issue. MadCap support kept pointing to Adobe, (even though I worked with them by giving them remote access to my system and proved Adobe wasn't...

Re: Question about setting a link into a PDF targeted Doc
I'll play devil's advocate. Given that the format is PDF, can't the user just use the PDF viewer's Back command, just the way one can use Back in a browser? Why make Flare duplicate functionality that the PDF viewer already has? Nita, That's a very good question and It's my fault for not explaining...

Question about setting a link into a PDF targeted Doc
Hi everyone! I have a standard topic I will use in all of my documents, regarding a Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedure. This topic will always remain the same and will be cross-referenced in many places in the documentation. What I would like to do is insert a link to take the user back to the page the...

System IO.IO Exception The Process cannot access the File...
When editing an image in Capture, that I have taken directly from within Flare, I get this error upon saving: System.IO.IOException occurred at 1/30/2017 10:57:34 AM The process cannot access the file 'C:\Users\...\Documents\My Projects\...\Content\Resources\Images\filename.PNG.props' because it is ...

Re: Error: "Build Failed: The directory is not empty"
Hi folks We are running Flare 2017 and are seeing this bug a lot. I found that if I use Windows to delete the Output folder entirely, it fixes the problem, albeit temporarily. I have tried the Clean Project command too, but it cannot delete everything for some reason. It appears that the same files...

Does Madcap Flare (or Caption) auto change img resolutions?
I am working in Flare 2017 and have been noticing, among other buggy issues, that when I edit an image in Photoshop, save it as a, let's say 6.2x3.77 in. image @300dpi, it saves fine. When I place the image into a document and then choose to add arrows or text boxes in Caption, the image shows up as...

Capture Crashed with a General Exceptio when Saving an Image
I brought an image into Capture 7 from Flare 2017 to crop it. I made the crop and when I save the image, I get a general exception and I can't do anything with the image until I close Flare. It crashed everything and I am not sure why. This happens semi regularly and I have been reporting it to Madc...

Putting Checkboxes into a Flare Doc intended for PDF output

Re: Problems with Style Selector in Flare 12
Bear in mind this isn't Word, and you can't just apply any style anywhere - the styles available in Flare are driven by the structure/CSS. I understand that this isn't Word, it's far superior in many ways from what I've learned in my short time playing with Flare 12. I would just like all styles av...

Re: Problems with Style Selector in Flare 12
This is a great question. Why do I have to choose a numbered list from the menu to see list styles appear in the selector or drop down. Is there any way to make all styles available at all times?
It's a frustrating "feature."

Re: Autonumbering on topics not incrementing
My first thought is mc-auto-number-class. You don't need that for autonumbering to work, and if you have a class Heading1 defined in your style sheet you might see some funkiness, depending on where it is declared in relation to the autonumbering. Steve, Thanks for your reply. Would you be able to ...

Autonumbering on topics not incrementing
Hi everyone! I have another issue we are experiencing with Flare 12. We set up our different sections as topics, for example: 1. Overview 1.1 Machine Specs 1.2 Workspace 1.3 Definitions 2. Safety 2.1 Safety Gear Required 2.2 Safety Rules 3. Pre-operational Setup 3.1 Blah 3.2 Blah Blah 4. Operation 5...

Is there a way to insert the date a document was printed?
My company had previously been working in Word before we got them to switch over to Flare (yay!) and a feature my manager likes from Word was the PrintDate feature from the Quick Parts button. This allowed us the ability to have the date printed on the documents so that the user who printed it would...

Re: Error: "Build Failed: The directory is not empty"
I've found that if you have the app "AdobeCollabSynch.exe" running in Taskmaster, that this is the reason for the error. It keeps a copy of the document built and displayed in Acrobat, so that it isn't really deleted. I couldn't find a way to properly delete it and since I heavily use Crea...

Automatic Numbering Issues...

We created a style sheet to work from that will automatically number our steps, but when I insert an image, Flare applies automatic numbering to the image as well. If I turn of...
