Re: Plain ol' pop-ups
I think micro content has the potential of being a very powerful tool for single sourcing content and bringing help content out of the code and into the help system where it can be maintained by the technical writing team, and updated without developer intervention. It's just not quite there yet. B...

Re: Flare Help Content Strategy
I have been trying to implement an approach like this. I started adding mini menus of "next step" links throughout my help project. I had been hoping to use Flare's relationship tables for more automated connections, but got lost and gave up. I might try to tackle that again. I wanted to s...

Re: Add accordion side menu with location highlight, to top
Hi Dave. Yes, I just discovered that and I amended my original post. My client does not want to move their very, very large knowledge base, whose presentation and navigation have been spec-ed out by a UX designer, from Top Nav to Side Nav. I'm stuck with Top Nav, but I'm trying to address the reque...

Re: Add accordion side menu with location highlight, to top
Thanks for posting. I'm trying to make a collapsible side menu as well and just haven't gotten Dave's solution to quite work. I'll go check out the template project you tried. EDITED: Well, scratch that. The Employee Handbook template project does not produce Top Nav output with a collapsible/expan...

Re: Add accordion side menu with location highlight, to top
I was looking for something similar, and was using an unwieldy (very, very long) menu proxy. I found this last week, and implemented the "Employee Handbook" template into what I had. My left nav menu now opens accordion style. In my case, users will never be able to access the help on a mo...

Re: Dynamic menus using relationship tables - help | samples
I'm back to focusing on this again, and thought I'd post to see if anyone has found a truly helpful resource for the relationship table feature. (The Madcap help is not helpful enough.)

Re: Auto generate identifiers for sub-folder only?
I ended up using a spreadsheet to automatically set identifiers. I exported my list of topics -- one csv for each folder (which is a book in itself). I started the first one with number 1000, second one with 2000, etc. Now when I add a new topic, I add a line to the spreadsheet and copy the auto-gen...

Re: Dynamic menus using relationship tables - help | samples
I've also started to set up relationship tables for the purpose of creating menus... and find the available information lacking. I'm still stumbling through it and haven't been able to come up with anything consistent and helpful.

Re: Creating a master alias file with unique IDs
Do the ID numbers need to match what you had before, or can everything have new numbers? I use a spreadsheet to generate my IDs when I add new topics or books. The first column would be the .htm names of your files. The rest is automatically filled in (you choose the first ID number to start the seq...

Re: TopNav target styles broken when lowercase file names on
It gets worse! (This issue is logged with MadCap. They have no ETA on a fix.) If you use the "Do not use "Content" folder in output" option, then you ALSO need to copy and manually change the case of, at least: ../resources/stylesheets/html5_styles.css [<-- not sure if I created/...

Re: Restricting search results
I figured it out! I found a post that said to place the condition tag on the FOLDER, and that worked. I had put the condition on the files within the folder, which did not work.

Restricting search results
I have a single project with three different HTML5 targets: Admin guide User guide Installation guide The content of each guide is in its own folder. Each guide has its own TOC. Each Target points to its corresponding TOC. I checked the "Exclude content..." box in each target (this doesn't...

Re: TopNav target styles broken when lowercase file names on
Still a problem. We wrote a script to copy/rename the files as listed above, before publishing. But, also found out any "Images" subfolders need to NOT be renamed to lowercase.

Re: Use lowercase filenames problem
Thanks for posting! I came across this/similar problem a couple of weeks ago, when it was pointed out to me that all but my first page were NOT formatted at all! (Someone else had previously posted my help files, and I'm guessing they automatically fixed the errors without letting me know, because f...

Re: Cross-reference colors in HTML5
I would check the "visited" style.
When I can't figure something like that out, I go into Web Inspector/Console view in the browser to see exactly what style it's applying there.

Re: Thumbnail vs original image
I've done this through the Flare GUI, but checked the code (inserted by Flare) and moved it to my stylesheet -- I hadn't thought to do that before. This is what I have for my images: img.centered { display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; mc-thumbnail: popup; max-width: 550px; mc-thumb...

Re: R3 Git problems! Back to R1
I'm manually using Git now. Is there a way to disable the integration with Flare? I tried unbinding in Flare, but as soon as I set up Git again through the command line, all the settings are visible again in Flare. It asks me if I want to pull every time I open Flare, and I want to make that stop. T...

Re: R3 Git problems! Back to R1
WHOA. For me, it's returning my content to what was already on Git. In my case, I'm working from blank content and adding pages. When I commit through Flare, it refreshed the page and comes back blank with just the Madcap header stuff.

Auto generate identifiers for sub-folder only?
Hi all -- I'm new to Flare as of a couple of weeks ago. I'm still working on my project structure, and currently have it set up like this. I have three user guides; two are customer-facing, and one is internal only. I decided to keep it all in a single project, because there will be many snippets co...
