Re: Issues with pulling / pushing from Central since upgrading to Flare 2023 R2

Hi Writers, Thanks for bringing this issue to Flare users' attention. We've been experiencing this issue since upgrading to r3. I have a couple of other troubleshooting steps that may prove useful. Rather than reinstalling Git for Windows and selecting the alternate Backend Transport option, you can...

Re: ElasticSearch works only for single viewer

Yep, we deploy to an Azure Virtual Machine. We migrated from an Azure web app. A web app is much easier to manage from an IT point of view, as you don't need to maintain an operating system, but it's a pure sandbox environment and we found we just could not install the required ElasticSearch compone...

Re: ElasticSearch works only for single viewer

Hi Chris, It certainly helps to have an IIS or Apache savvy resource handy when setting up Elasticsearch. The configuration instructions are better than they used to be, but rely on an 'ideal' environment to publish to rather than a modern secure locked-down SSL-enforced web server. Unfortunately, I...

Re: ElasticSearch works only for single viewer

Turns out everything wasn't being successfully published to the destination, so the files on the VM were pointing at 'localhost' when inspected in the browser and not the VM address. Great if you've got a local elasticsearch server running. Getting ElasticSearch up and running is definitely pretty t...

ElasticSearch works only for single viewer

Flare version 2022 build .20734 Windows 10 Publishing to Azure VM through DevOps pipelines Long shot, but I'm experiencing a very odd issue. I've finally been granted a full Virtual Machine in our Azure subscription to host our knowledge bases, which means I can integrate ElasticSearch. Everything i...

Re: Microsoft ISS Server Caching

Hope this isn't too late to be useful. I believe that modern browsers tend to ignore client-side caching meta tags. You can add a server-side header directive through your IIS configuration or web.config. In our root web.config file, I have the following instruction: <system.webServer> ... <staticCo...

End-user registration and page update notification

Hi Flare users, We've had an enquiry from our API dev team as to whether it's possible for readers of a Flare-output knowledge base (HTML5) to 'register' in some way to a page and automatically get notified of updates to that page. Similar to the concept of ZenDesk registration I guess. I'm aware of...

Re: SaaS projects - any background info I should look at?

Hi ChoccieMuffin, Last year, I started looking at the same thing. We are going to release a cloud product this year, or a cloud version of our existing on-prem product, and faced the same challenges. I can only speak for the 'external' online help, which is pretty much business as usual. If a user c...

Re: Publishing to Bitbucket - works and then doesn't

Hi Sarahb, I solved my problem with the help of Madcap Support, which might help solve your problem as well. We found that if you have File > Options > Source Control > Use Git executable for Network Functions ticked in Flare options, then an author requires Git for Windows to be installed on the au...

Hi Sarahb, Looks like you, me, and this guy (https://forums.madcapsoftware.com/viewtopic.php?f=68&t=31416) are all having the same problem. I have set up publishing to DevOps Git, which then deploys to our Azure web app through DevOps pipelines. Works fantastic, no VPN required. However my assoc...

This text:

is also being inserted into condition and variable custom tags, making me think it might be a bug instead. There's no reason for that text to be there.

Build 7283, body proxies, and HTTPS enforcement

Flare 2019 r2 build 7283, Windows 10. I looked for this issue, but couldn't find anything. Ever since updating to this build, we've been getting 'Master page doesn't contain a body proxy' warnings in the build logs. My master pages most certainly do have a body proxy, so I was pulling my hair out tr...

Re: Source Control, Build and Publish

I seem to recall that some phantom branches may have still shown in the Flare Branch dropdown after deleting in DevOps. But eventually they disappeared, or it might have been that they naturally dropped off after moving to a new main trunk for the next release. Either way it didn't seem to interrupt...

Re: Opt-out of accessibilty improvements?

Weirdly enough, when I go to HTML5 - Top Navigation skin > UI Text > Skip to Content and delete the text for the Skip to Content entry, the output in Chrome exhibits the desired behaviour (that is, the Skip to Main Content link does not appear unless the reader presses Tab before doing anything). I ...

Re: Opt-out of accessibilty improvements?

I just upgraded to build 7283 after skipping the second-last build due to startup crashes, and I'm suddenly getting this 'Skip to Main Content' nonsense appearing at the top of my Chrome output as well. Why on Earth Madcap would introduce such a 'feature' with no warning and no opt-out is mind-boggl...

Re: Importing GPL topics to a different folder

Thanks Dave, I'll look at that CSS solution to master pages. I do use a handful of different master pages in my projects for long instruction sets vs pure concept, etc.

I think I will try and use snippets to solve my problem. I don't care where imported resource files go.

Cheers.

Importing GPL topics to a different folder

Hi Flarefolk, 1. Import to a different folder After several years of not having to link projects, I now have a need to import topics from a 'master' project to a sub-project. Our primary online help is being shifted behind an IPwall, but there remains a need for Sales and Support to be able to send ...

Hi Dave, It's a good question, and one I'd completely forgotten the answer to. I went back through my SEO notes and found what I'd jotted down on this one. >> Just looking into identifying ‘graveyard’ or zero-visit pages in google analytics, and realised I’ve made it extraordinarily difficult by not...

A little bit late to the party, but I'm currently trying to set up ElasticSearch on an Azure web app container, and yeah, the instructions provided (and that haven't been updated since ElasticSearch was rolled out) simply don't cater for environments like that. They assume the user has an on-premise...

Re: Any inbuilt facilities for curation or expiry management

Hm, might be worth a shot, but it's a bit of setup to get around something. I'm honestly a bit surprised you can't create your own metadata free-text fields that you can fill out for a topic. I probably should request this as a feature. I suspect I'm going to go with having CSS-hidden metadata text ...

Hello Flarefolk, Flare 2019 R2 HTML5 output, hosted on Azure We are soon to roll out our first web-based application, but still in the desktop space. Re: Turning off the Expand button in search micro content

Hi Richard, I've successfully turned this off in my micro content results, which always show at 100% height with no expand/collapse present. Two possible causes: 1. You say you have edited the Micro Content values in the Side Navigation skin. There is also a dedicated 'Search Results' skin, which (I...
