Re: Adding a Help button that "links" to a doc navigation topic
Was just browsing this index and came across this post. This is exactly something I could use. The people who use our output aren't all tech savvy and I've been trying to come up with ideas on how to help them find things easier in the output. I have a custom search results page with a little blurb ...

Linking Stylesheets
Hey everyone. I see a lot of output online that have multiple stylesheets. I have a few projects, one that's pretty massive for enterprise software, but I've never done anything like carry multiple stylesheets or linking stylesheets like MadCap's newer short video: https://youtu.be/K4HaN5X7TAk?si=l7...

Re: Merging branches taking a long time
Hey scap - Sorry you're going through this. GitKraken ended up being my savior even after that last debacle. It ended up happening another time, albeit I caught it early enough. I am 99% sure that the Flare Git source control interface struggles when there is a file conflict (two branches have edits...

Re: December 30 1600 Variable on Search Page
Unfortunately, no. I ended up giving up on it. I have the variable in a couple of other projects and they work just fine. The project that I was struggling with it on in 2019 ended up getting retired actually. I'm working on a new project that's replacing that project... So I will eventually get to ...

Re: MadCap suddenly closing
UPDATE: I did the repair on the MadCap installation. So far, so good... I hope.
UPDATE: The repair on the MadCap installation didn't seem to solve the problem. Nothing is shaking out from my computer's logs, either. Bummer.

Re: MadCap suddenly closing
Richard - At the risk of sounding incompetent... How does one go about doing a "repair" on the Flare installation?
EDIT: Never mind - I think you must be talking about the Windows Repair. I will give that a shot. Fingers crossed.

Re: MadCap suddenly closing
Thanks for the input to both of you. Unfortunately, neither match my predicament. It's just happening while I'm doing regular things. For example, I'll be typing away in a topic file and then it just freezes, then closes. No error or anything. Or, I might be inserting a responsive layout row. The da...

MadCap suddenly closing
Has anyone experienced this? I just recently updated to Windows 11 22H2 and I know from experience that this version has a lot of issues. I'm hoping that's not it. I've been watching my computer processes on one monitor and when it occurs, I'm not seeing anything jump out at me. I haven't been in Ma...

Printed images (PNGs) very small in printed output
I posted about this yesterday in the CSS index, but that turned out to be a red herring. I figured out, after a ton of trials, that my PNG images are coming out super tiny in PDF output only (even without a thumbnail class or ANY styling applied). All JPEGS are coming out fine in printed output, eve...

Re: Why are my screenshots too small in PDF output?
I hope this reaches you. Coming from 6 years in the future... I'm having this same problems. Any JPEG images that I have in my project come out fine in the print output. But all of the PNG images turn out tiny. I've spent days thinking CSS and/or thumbnail was the problem, but that was a red herring...

Source Control issues related to branches
Editing my original post since I can't find a way to delete it. When I create branches & do commits in MadCap, it seems to run along fine until something suddenly happens. Then it'll slow everything way down. A fresh re-bind seems to help, but then I lose all of my history. I've been testing wit...

Re: Merging branches taking a long time
lmao that was totally me. I felt like I just torpedoed my project. Actually I still do. I'm in some limbo hell right now where about 50% of my content merged and the other 50% didn't. I've restored backups, tried analyzing manually... I'm not even sure what else I can do except literally go through ...

Re: Merging branches taking a long time
I'm sad to see no one has found a solution. I am, unfortunately, in the same boat. I've used branches & merged them without issue but today I went to merge a rather large branch and everything fell apart. Like others have stated, it was taking so long that I killed it. Then, to my dismay, I foun...

Re: Printing from HTML Output - Tables
Thanks for the response. After I posted I spent a very long while working on it. Once I confirmed the print medium settings in the master stylesheet were responding to printing HTML, I started zoning in even more. I realized that on this particular page it happens to be a table getting split at a pa...

Printing from HTML Output - Tables
Starting with the fact that I'm new to anything related to printing. We have a successful HTML output, but some of our users still want that good old fashioned printed page. We deliver our content in a Chrome browser for security reasons. One of our users used the print option and ended up with a ve...

Re: Want to export an HTML topic from a HTML 5 output as PDF
To user 'heal' - Thank you from the future in 2022! I have a client who wants just a single article (all on an .htm Topic) as a PDF and this saved the day. I've been using MadCap for 4 years and never noticed that.

Re: Hyphenated words in search results
Micro content is a good idea. In my last project I utilized that. My only issue with micro content is that we have similar terminology for multiple different areas. So "un-post an accounts receivable invoice" and "un-post an accounts payable invoice". In the last project I found ...

Re: Hyphenated words in search results
Thanks. Yeah, I've tried synonyms. I had them in there for a long time and it was only recently that I realized they weren't working for hyphenated words

Hyphenated words in search results
I feel like I've exhausted my ideas. I tried synonyms but that doesn't seem to work. I've tried the handful of options in the Glossary, which we heavily use for searching in the HTML output. So I come to you guys. We have several words that can be hyphenated or not depending on who's typing. As a co...

Import Excel table or cells into MadCap table
Maybe there's a better way to do this. I'm given software release notes in an Excel doc that's part of a larger organizational document. Was hoping to just copy or import the two columns I need into a table on a Topic that I keep for this purpose. I'm sure there's a more modern way of doing this but...

JavaScript only working on first element
I am totally new at using JavaScript in MadCap Flare so bear with me. I have a topic that will be dedicated to indexing videos. I added the videos as .webm (due to the secure browser we're using, and the sensitive information, we can't post our videos on YouTube). Adding the videos was easy enough b...

Re: Flare v16 list issues
Hi Nita! So yes, the Back gets you a new <p> within an <li> - I'd figured that out. I was specifically having trouble getting a new <p> after a <table> within a <li>. Hitting Back doesn't do anything in that case. I did end up resolving it myself but forgot to delete this post. Using Shift+Enter get...

Flare v16 list issues
Hi all. Hopefully I'm able to describe this correctly. Version 16 came out with dozens of List enhancements. I'm finding that what I thought was the way to do things must have actually been my workaround to bugs. Here are the changes described in their KB, which I was using previous methods before: ...

Omitting a boolean operator (+) from the search syntax
We have an F1 CSH hook up in our software to our HTML5 help guide. We use the form name of the window to initiate a search in the help guide. In the last couple of years, 2 new programs have been developed that contain a +. Luckily, when the F1 key is used on those programs, the + is removed and rep...

Re: 2020 update - preview thumbnail images get stuck
I have this issue as well. Have you received an update or solution from support since opening the ticket? Yes, I received a notice that it was submitted to development. With our software, if a bug is buggy or annoying enough, we release an immediate patch. This is my first run-in with a problem lik...
