I author primarily in the Text Editor, and only hop into the XML Editor if I'm forced to to access functionality that's excluded from the Text Editor.

Ok, after looking into this, I do not see how a snippet will solve my footer problem. Snippets appear to only hold text, while the footer is a complex arrangement of text and formatting.

I know it's hard to suggest alternate solutions when another user's ideal path isn't possible (like in my case, where the functionality I'm asking about simply doesn't exist in the place I want it to). I appreciate the effort.
