Re: Flare 2020 bugs and crashes

The Flare 2020 r2 update has introduced some irritating bugs in the Analyzer. A previously "clean" project in Flare 2019 is now reported as having many Undefined style errors, which are not styles at all. The Analyzer has started to misread perfectly valid variable entries, such as System....

Re: how to Save settings before re-installing

I find it very irritating that Flare adds more bloat to the Documents folder - two extra folders - just to hold a couple of tiny settings files. MadCap, please consider putting these files somewhere else, like in the Apps > Roaming folder, where Flare already holds other settings.

Re: Sequence contains more than one element

I had been renaming targets and changing their contents. - I clicked Commit All , entered my commit comment, and tried to continue. - The "Sequence contains..." error appeared. - I clicked Don't Send on the error dialog to make it go away*. - I then clicked Synchronize and Flare proceeded ...

Re: Cross Referencing to a List Item

"Madcap logged this issue as a feature request on my behalf in 2015". This is sadly typical of MadCap's developer*. I will also raise this as a feature request, with no expectation of ever receiving a follow-up response/answer/excuse why the developer* was incapable of implementing this ve...

Re: "Format auto-number commands can not be converted"

" The given path's format is not supported " can be caused if Flare is trying to generate a file name that includes an illegal character, typically a colon. This can occur if a Flare variable includes a : in its definition, and that variable is then being used in the construction of the ou...

Re: HTML5 skin works in Flare 10 does not preview in Flare 1

I had this message too, and the reason was quite simple. One of my variables, called DocumentTitleMain, was defined using a colon: Great Product: OEM Versions That variable is used in the definition of another variable called PDFOutputFileName (defined as [%=Variables.PartNumber%] - [%=Variables.Doc...

Re: Error 10083: The process cannot access the file

Using Resource Monitor, as helpfully described by Pamb10, proved what I have suspected for a very long time. It is Acrobat that holds files open, even when you have supposedly closed them. Only closing Acrobat completely is enough to make it fully "release" the file handles and allow Flare...

Re: Flare 2019

@ChoccieMuffin: Thanks for the tip. I thought I'd tried F5 when I was first encountered the problem, but obviously not. Flare should perform an automatic refresh whenever content is deleted from a page. @Daniela Kummer: I've noticed the same/similar problem. If a bulleted list crosses a page boundar...

Re: Flare 2019

I agree. In the release notes, there is no mention of a fix for the Find/Replace boxes locking solid and not accepting typed input until Flare is restarted. No fix for regularly having to switch to Text Editor view then back to XML Editor view just to force the page to refresh and correctly show the...

Re: FrameMaker Import Wizard - only p tags displayed

Having used Flare for a few months, I need to import some old FrameMaker documents. It seems like a very poor decision (or feeble excuse) by Madcap to completely ignore the proper importing/mapping of bullets and numbered lists. It will take ages for users to manually apply their Flare CSS <ul> or <...

Re: Build fail Could not find a part of path ErrorID=10086

For as long as I can remember, Acrobat has had a nasty trick of "holding open" a PDF file, even when you specifically close it within Acrobat, but keep Acrobat open. When another application tries to rewrite the same PDF file, the file system correctly reports that the file is still open. ...

Re: Flare 10 Find and Replace in Files

Incredibly, in January 2019, this bug STILL exists (build 14.1.6875.33553). I had been using Find and Replace a few times, when it refused to accept typed input in the Find box. Only restarting Flare will make it work again... but only for two or three more searches, after which it refuses further t...

Re: Prevent line breaks on underscore character?

I'm having exactly the same problem. We have many programming function names such as DO_THIS_ACTION_NOW which are broken at the end of the line: ...you must use the DO_THIS_ ACTION_NOW function to enable... Is there really no CSS span or MadCap custom tag to prevent a break within a particular strin...

Re: Save Workspace Layout

As a new user in the demo period, I would say that the Layout system does not work at all. I have setup my preferred set of floating panels across two monitors, and saved the layout with a specific name - just as I would in FrameMaker. However, if for any reason I change the layout, then attempt to ...

Re: System.Title variable in Page Layout

It's over two years since the original post, but I have found exactly the same problem. The System.Title variable, in the header of my page layout, correctly shows the topic title on left and right pages, but on an "empty left" page it shows the file name. To avoid this bug I have had to r...
