Using topics in multiple projects
I'm in an unfortunate situation here. We're transitioning from a CHM file to web-based help and rolling out the first mobile version of our software. In a happier world I could just change the target and mostly use conditionals to set blocks of material as "large screen only" or "phon...

Changing color of dropdown hotspot
I feel like I'm missing something obvious here. There are certain Help topics that would benefit from using dropdown sections. The final result looks like this. dropdown.jpg It looks like the default blue color for hyperlinks and I just can't figure out where in the stylesheet to change it. Already ...

Re: Stuck on context-sensitive help
Yay, I figured it out! I don't understand why this is, but Flare reacts differently if the file has an .html extension as opposed to .htm. Changing it to .htm made everything work hunky-dory and I can now link to bookmarks within topic files.

Re: Stuck on context-sensitive help
Thanks, using bookmarks is exactly what I was thinking too. But for some reason the alias file is not letting me choose a bookmark within a file. Here's the topic; you'll see that I used Flare to create two bookmarks to start, name and actnm. bookmarks in topic.jpg But when I try to assign an identi...

Stuck on context-sensitive help
I might just be overthinking this, but I am having trouble understanding how to link to a specific point in a Help topic. We generate a .CHM file to include with our software. After expanding our search capabilities the boss would like the Help button to open to a specific point in the "Finding...

Re: Why am I getting paragraphs within a list?
Thanks for your help folks, that solved it. But man, what a strange option for Madcap to pick that as a default. (to me, anyway)

Why am I getting paragraphs within a list?
I was typing away this morning and noticed that my unordered list wasn't looking quite right. In viewing the markup I saw that Flare was adding <p> tags within every list item. It's putting extra space between the lines. Not that hard to get rid of, but I'm sure Flare didn't used to do this. Does an...

Re: Puzzled over alias/map files, linking to topics
Thanks, this was helpful in getting me toward an understanding of how this works. Next problem: I used a tool to create identifiers and somehow ended up with a bunch of duplicates. Should I ignore this? Delete the duplicates? My programmers do use the identifiers to link certain topics in the Help f...

Puzzled over alias/map files, linking to topics
A while back I imported our software's Help file from Microsoft HTML Help into Flare. It went great, but I've run into a problem and I'm going in circles. The old project had two files, alias.h and map.h. If I search for alias in the QuickLaunch bar my only option is to create a new Alias file, not ...

Capturing a window w/ highlighted menu item
Seems like there should be a way to do this, but I've been poking at it for too long now. I need to capture the window of a customer account with a certain menu option highlighted. I click the File menu and mouse down to the item I want. None of Madcap's capture options are doing what I need. Captur...

I'm on Flare 2019r2, a version dated 10/4/2019. I checked and it is the newest release.

Odd problem with TOC
I was working as usual and added a new topic to my project. Generated the build (it's for an old-fashioned CHM, if that matters) and nearly had a heart attack when I saw that my TOC was gone! The only entry was the new topic I had created. Quickly figured out how to look at the properties for the pr...

Mimic recorded just a few seconds
Granted I am a new user, but I was just trying to capture a video with no audio, captioning, etc. I started a new movie, expanded the frame to the size I wanted, and clicked the red record button. The software process I wanted to capture took about five minutes; when I was done, I right-clicked the ...

How to draw a transparent rectangle?
Since I am using Flare more and more at work I figured I would also start using Capture for screenshots. I'm scratching my head trying to accomplish one of the things that needs doing most often. I just want to draw a colored rectangle around a user interface item, but when I do so the rectangle are...

A wild tab has gotten loose
Screenshot 2019-05-06 09.38.31.png My progress in Flare continues to be slow because of issues like this. I was just trying to change the order of tabs where I was working. One has now decided to become its own separate window and no matter what I try I cannot get the tab back with the other files ...

Frustrated by a simple problem
Literally all I am trying to do is change a line from a paragraph to an h4. Here's the screenshot. InterfaceProblem.png I've tried highlighting the text and clicking the p tag on the left, then gone through all the menu options I can see. I feel like I must be missing something obvious, but darned i...

Trying to keep a few files from appearing in final output
My primary target for a Flare project is a CHM file that gets integrated with our software. The issue I've found is that I have a few topics in the Content folder that I actually don't want showing up in the final output. There are a few files on topics that are mostly deprecated, but still contain ...

Newbie question on stylesheet links
I am coming from a process where I was hand-coding HTML to write the Help file for our software. near the top of all files I had something like this block <head><title>Printing a Container Placement Report</title> <link href="styles.css" type="text/css" rel="stylesheet"...

OK thank you, I understand. Let me go through those tutorials about working with the stylesheet editor and if I run into any problems I will deal with it that way. Thanks for your help.

Re: Confused by some style import problems
OK, I was able to identify the problem styles and fix that. Thanks! For the future, how can I do that without needing to manually edit the stylesheet in the text editor? I ask because some of our users here are not experts in CSS and XML. If you look at the Flare screenshot in my above post, I absol...

Re: Confused by some style import problems
Thank you, I was able to find the CSS problems and fix them. Having said that, not everyone who needs to use Flare at our company has a firm grasp on CSS and XML. On a purely mechanical level, isn't there some way to edit a stylesheet in Flare without using the text editor? If you look at the screen...

Confused by some style import problems
It's my first full day working in Flare. I've mostly succeeded in importing our .CHM file but I'm running into some style problems.
