Using Contributor with an SME
We are pretty sure that life will be easier and more enjoyable if our SME can work directly in the .htm files using Contributor. Going back and forth with Word files is time-consuming. Our help has these characteristics: 1. TOC going 3, even 4 levels deep, although we try to avoid level 4 2. Images ...

Table Formatting
Hello.
Here is a table that was handily created in Microsoft Word:
When I imported the Word file, all the color-coding disappeared. I am a total newbie with regard to HTML and CSS for something like this. How on earth do I replicate this? All pointers gratefully received.

Popup doesn't pop up
Hello. I have followed the instructions in "Inserting Topic Popups" in the Flare online help (https://help.madcapsoftware.com/flare2017r2/Content/Nav-Links/Flare/Topic-Popups/Inserting-Topic-Popups.htm). The resulting link in my HTML 5 output simply displays the "popup" content i...

Re: How to add Index to HTML5 Project
Thank you, Paul. I am really new to both Flare and HTML5. I think that an index is the way you get users away from doing a full-text search and getting lots of useless hits. So I assumed that I should add an Index to my project. Why would some HTML5 designs not include an index tab? Thanks.

How to add Index to HTML5 Project
Hello, all. I am trying to add an Index to my HTML 5 project. I've opened the Flare Indexing Guide for Flare 2019. I have Flare 2019. On page 51, in "Enabling Indexes in Skins," it says to open the skin in question and go to the General tab. There is no General tab for any of my skins. Why...

How to put Registered Trademark symbol in a variable
Hello. I want to create a variable that shows our product name with the Registered trademark. We repeat our product name hundreds of times in our online help and word has come down that we must include the Registered symbol every time our product name is displayed. In the Variables table, I can ente...

Re: Table Styles Mystery
Thank you, Nita. I finally got back to this question! I used Cell Content Style, but I find that it applies to every paragraph in a cell. I have a table that follows this pattern: Title of Something in column 1 Definition introductory sentence in Column 2 ending in colon: --Bulleted item 1 of defini...

Graphic exists in Output and nowhere else
Hi, all. Our help output contains the product name in the blue title bar in the default layout. We need to add a TM to the product name. We build to several different targets from this project. I assumed that I would find the graphic in our Images folder in the Content tab, edit it, save it, rebuild...

Strange TOC Behavior
Hi, all. I am working on a help system that has a repetitive structure. Many H1 topics contain H2s that provide identical information, such as "Activity Log." The description of this tab remains constant throughout the help system. Therefore, we have one "Activity Log" topic (.ht...

Creating multiple HTML5 outputs
Hi, all. I have a big project with dozens of topics. But, to show team members some new design elements, I need to show only two topics. It's quicker and easier to generate output using only the two topics, obviously. Therefore, I created a new TOC (Two-Topic TOC) containing only the two topics. I a...

Re: Mini-TOC Behavior
Thanks for the great suggestions. You know, when we imported our FrameMaker book into Flare, all our headings had a p. added to them, so H1 became p.H1. I don't know if we missed a step where we could have mapped our H1 to a Flare H1. I'm thinking we need to fix that, because various Flare functions...

Hi, all. I have a .htm file that is formatted like this: p.H1 -- title of topic p.H2 -- first level of subtitles p.H3 -- second level of subtitles The .htm file is long, and we would like to have an internal TOC at the top of it listing the p.H2 and p.H3 subtitles inside this .htm file and of course...

Contributor Doesn't Have Flare
Hi, all. I'm working with an SME who does not have Flare. He will be working with us for a few weeks and definitely will not be buying a Flare license for just that short time period. He also doesn't really need to learn Flare for such a short investment of time. He will need to edit our existing .h...

Generate a few topics to show someone else
Hi, all. I am working on an HTML5 project with dozens of topics. I want to show a developer two topics, which contain hyperlinks to two more topics. I've created a TOC containing only the two main topics, and kept that TOC active, but when I build to HTML5, I get the complete project. What am I miss...

Re: How to format Mini-Toc
Hi, Beaver. Sorry it took me so long to reply. Leading in this context is the vertical space between lines. For example, the leading between lines 1 and 2, below and between lines 2 and 3 is very different: Line 1 Line 2 Line 3 In the mini-TOC, the leading is much bigger than we would like. We would...

How to format Mini-Toc
Hello. I have been reading "Using Styles to Determine the Look of a Mini-TOC," part of the Flare online help, but I do not see the information I need. We would like to reduce the leading of the lines of our mini-TOCs, but I can't seem to make that happen. I have changed the margin-bottom a...

Re: Error message questions
Thank you, this is very helpful. The Build Log, (which I really should have been able to spot for myself! blushes) in several places on the Warnings tab says: Missing linked stylesheet file:// [path] but the stylesheet is right where it's supposed to be, in the very directory specified in the path. ...

madcap flare red check box next to filename
Hello. IN the Content Explorer, when I click the blue folder icon and the pane splits into two panes, and the filenames are listed in the right pane, the check box next to one of the filenames is now red. I would like to know the significance. I remember hearing this in a training video, but I am no...

Error message questions
I have two related questions, one really simple: 1. Where can I find the error messages for my build? They've disappeared from the Messages pane. Is there a log file somewhere? 2. I recall that the messages told me that a table.css is missing, or the link to it is broken. The message did not tell me...
