Re: Variables and Snippets in Topic Popups

That makes perfect sense. It displays the static text but not the dynamic stuff it has to generate when I build the whole target.

Thanks for the clarification!

Re: Variables and Snippets in Topic Popups

Thanks! It worked in the final output but not in the preview so I'm good to go.

Would you consider the weirdness with the preview window to be a bug? If so, I'll submit a ticket to the link you provided.

Variables and Snippets in Topic Popups

Does anyone know of current issues with variables and snippets in topic popups? Could there be an issue with the topic preview? I'm wondering if it's something I'm doing wrong or a bug in Flare v6.1.0

I've created a topic popup so that a reader can click to see another topic without losing the ...

Re: nesting conditions and snippets in snippets

Thanks very much! I have already mastered the fine art of inserting snippets into a list with the correct numbering (Thanks to Kevin for the info in a different post! :D ) I was just timid about trying to insert a snippet into another snippet so I'm glad to see that someone else was able to get it ...

Re: nesting conditions and snippets in snippets

I have a related question about nesting snippets within snippets.

I have a block of text that uses a bunch of repeating text, and then the whole thing needs to be added to a couple of topics throughout my help system. Here's my example:

To Access an Open Account Request
1. Navigate to Account ...

Re: Reorganize file structure for snippets

Thanks, Kevin! I had tried that in the past with troubling results. I tried it again today and it seems to have worked.

Reorganize file structure for snippets

If I reorganize my snippets into a new folder structure within Flare, will I create a ton of broken links and "missing snippet" errors?

Background: When I first started writing my topics, I used only a few snippets. As the project has grown, I've really expanded how I'm using snippets and now have ...

Re: How to create a list item snippet with variable numbering

Cool trick! This will work great for repetitive steps across similar but slightly different procedures (e.g. "Click the Next button.").

One word of caution, though.

When I tried this, I selected the text of a list item in an existing list and it created the entire list as the snippet instead of ...

Re: Flare Tip

This tidbit is fantastic! Thanks for providing that Mimic movie. I was able to see very quickly how to do what you described AND I was able to show our Product Management team how Mimic could help us enhance our own software product's help. We're now working on a strategy for adding little movies ...

Re: Create a Notes column in the printout?

I can definitely understand how a 2- or 3-column approach would work if the only target I needed was the training workbook. My challenge is that my source content needs to support some online and printed targets that must be single column as well as a training workbook that would be 2-column. I ...

Re: Create a Notes column in the printout?

Back to Tom's original question -- about creating a format for a training guide where the user can write notes in an enlarged margin.

I have that same need with the training guide I'm developing -- with the addition that I want to use that extra column for tips, sidebars, and Instructor's Notes. I ...
